We are fortunate to have such a good group of golfers and a beautiful course to enjoy. Let s make 2014 a great season. ~ Joe Pitino, President ************IMPORTANT NOTICES ************ <<Season Opening Meeting Thursday March 27, 2014>> Our opening meeting is set for 6:00 pm and will be held at the East Street Eatery. The meeting is open to all members and information will be made available concerning league play as well as the tournament schedule. It is important all members attend the March 27th meeting. I would also ask anybody who would like to contribute to this fund to see me. Please remember try to support all of our sponsors of this great program, it's something that all of us should be PROUD of at Farmingbury Hills. Thank You, ~Paul Garland YOUR GOLF HANDICAP I hope by now everyone has had enough of winter and is ready to start playing some golf. I look forward to seeing you all at our opening meeting, For the 2013 season we started a new Handicap System for our league play which seemed to work out very well for all of us. We will keep the same format for our 2014 league play. Remember; it is the responsibility of every member of the Men s Association to make sure his score is entered into the computer for every 9 hole or 18 hole round played. It is in all of our best interests that our handicaps are accurate. If you have any questions regarding the CSGA handicap process or league handicaps please feel free to ask. Our intent is to make competition as fair as possible. For anyone who is a member of the USGA they usually send a rules booklet out to all paid members. I encourage you to peruse this booklet and increase your knowledge of the rules of golf. A copy of the rules is posted online at this URL: http://www.usga.org/rule-books/rules-of-golf/rule-01/ See you soon. ~Paul Garland, Handicap Chairman
PRO S CORNER Happy New Year to all of Farmingbury's finest. This is the first year that I can remember since I've been at Farmingbury that I find myself looking back rather than towards the next season. I think all of us are still in shock over losing Bob Crane last December. Bob was such a positive guy for all of us. He had a smile and a good word for all of us. We all loved Bob and losing him makes us less than what we were. We will all miss Bob for a long time. The starting date for the Tues & Thurs leagues is April 15 & 17. If anyone you know would like to join the league have them call the pro shop and leave me a message. I will start putting things together in mid March like always. Joe Paulo and the tournament committee have put together a great schedule for the upcoming season with a few little new touches that I'm sure everyone will enjoy. I will run the "Frostbite Classic" ( 2 man scramble) the first decent Sunday that we are open. This is a make your own tee time and foursome event and is a great way to start the season. I will have a sign-up for the Saturday morning pro-am ( don't know how much game the local pro has left these days ) and the Ct PGA pro-ams on Saturday April 5 at 1pm. Last but not least congratulations and good luck to Joe Pitino and Mike Marcelynas on taking over as the new association president and vice president positions this year. Joe and Mike are some of our few "youngbloods" that we have. They are good men who love Farmingbury and they'll do a great job. Let s all get behind Joe and Mike and all the association officers to make this another great season. Good luck to all, Craig Kealey, Golf Professional COMMISSION REPORT On Monday, February 10, 2014, Mayor Dunn held an organizational meeting for the election of officers to the Farmingbury Commission. The following people were appointed by the Mayor and in the organizational meeting were elected to the following, Bob Larson, Chairman, Greg Solocius, Vice Chairman, Paul Garland, Treasurer and members Joan Kane and Lou Pozella. The appointments are for two years. Many thanks must be given to retiring members Tony Marino, Mike Perrone and Chris Vastola and for their efforts on behalf of the Commission over the past five years. Bob Larson, Chairman TREASURER S REPORT Member Dues for the 2014 season of $80.00 is payable by March 14th. Early collection of dues puts our Association in better shape to pay our fees to the CSGA and assure that everyone is registered to receive a handicap. I thank you all in anticipation of your timely remittance of dues. Please mail to: Men's Association or just drop the funds & member application form in our mailbox located in front foyer between the Pro Shop & East St Eatery. It s important you also put down your most current email address on the member application form (located at the bottom of this report), so that the handicap chairman can send you the most current handicaps and reports available. Our goals this year are: keeping costs down, grow our membership, and assure our association is offering members the best opportunity to participate in a good number of events. Thank you. ~Artie George, Treasurer WHAT CAN I SAY Well, what can I say, it s hard to summarize a person in a few short words. Bob Crane was a great Association President, golf partner and friend he will truly be missed. His impact on people is very apparent from all the comments I ve seen from friends, colleagues and former students. If you see me laughing for no apparent reason on the course this year, know that I am thinking about a comment or Bob-ism from years past. I don t think I will be ever be able to golf at Farmingbury again without some thought about a past round with my friend. I m very excited about the 2014 season; the executive committee has been working all winter to make 2014 even better than last year. I would like to reiterate we now have a website where we will post league schedules, tournament schedules, pictures and news about the association. I have also started a Facebook page for the association for the purpose of an additional avenue of promotion of our group.
