Widefield School District 3 Parks & Recreation Sports Volleyball Rules 1st & 2nd Grade Coed Matches will consist of three 12-minute periods. The clock will not stop, except for timeouts or injuries. Score will not be kept. There will be 1 minute in between periods. Each team will have one timeout per period. Timeouts are one minute long. Unused timeouts do not carry over. 4 players per team must be on the court at all times. Exceptions will be made if teams are short that week. Court dimensions will be approximately 40 x 20. Net height will be approximately 6 4. A Tachikara primary training ball will be used. Matches will begin with a coin toss. Winner of the toss will select serve or which side they'd like to start on. Teams will switch sides between periods. Let serves will be allowed -- a serve can hit the net, go over the net and be played. No blocking or spiking the serve. Players will be allowed to serve the ball from inside the court. Once the player has successfully served two serves from inside the court, he/she must take a big step back. (This is to encourage the players to develop and build their skills while allowing them to succeed). After three successful overhand serves, the server must serve underhand. Three hits are allowed per side and then the ball must go over the net. A player may not hit the ball two times in a row within the same volley. If the ball hits the ceiling and crosses the plane of the net, it will be called dead. If the ball hits the ceiling and stays on the offensive side of the net, the ball remains in play. However, the player that hit the ball to the ceiling may not hit the ball on its descent. If the ball hits an obstruction (wall, basketball hoop, etc) it will be called dead. Players will rotate in a clockwise direction, continually rotating out of the middle back position. This should be the spot after the serving position. Once a player has served 5 times in a row, the ball is automatically a sideout. (This is to keep the players rotating and participating it is not fun for the rest of the team if only one person is touching the ball).

Bracelets, necklaces, watches, earrings, hard barrettes, and any other items that the referee deems potentially hazardous will be prohibited. Medical alert bracelets must be taped. Hard casts are not allowed under any circumstances. Sportsmanship for Players, Coaches, and Fans: Players - unsportsmanlike conduct or aggressive play will not be tolerated!!! If the referee witnesses any acts of unsportsmanlike conduct, the game will be stopped and the player or players will be ejected from the game. Any ejection also carries a one game suspension for the following game. Any coach that is ejected from a game: 1. Must leave the field or facility immediately (this means the referees should not be able to hear or see you!). The game will not be played until this happens. 2. Will automatically be suspended for the following game. 3. Could be subject to further disciplinary action at the Youth Sports Coordinator's discretion, including removal from his/her coaching duties. Any fan that is ejected from a game must leave the field or facility immediately (this means the referees should not be able to hear or see you!). The game will not be played until this happens.
