The last date to meet the requirements is 31 December 2013. Purpose This certificate is awarded to people who have demonstrated competency in a range of skills to care for horses and coach riders at an introductory level. People may continue to gain unit standards that lead to National Certificate in Equine (Grade 1 Coaching) (Level 4) [Ref: 0656]. The qualification recognises a combination of equine care, equine health, and equitation skills required for coaching, which meet the horse management skills and knowledge required by the industry. Many of the unit standards contained within this qualification are also included in the National Certificate in Equine (Stable Practice) (Level 3) with strands in Harness Racing, Sporthorse, Thoroughbred Racing, and Track Riding [Ref: 0654]. Replacement Information This qualification has been replaced by the National Certificate in Equine (Preliminary Coaching) (Level 3) [Ref: 1603]. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided on the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) website: http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/qualifications-standards/standards/standards-exclusionlist/. Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.

NZQF NQ Ref 0655 Version 3 Page 4 of 6 Previous versions of the qualification Version 2 was issued as part of an overall Equine qualification review. Changes to structure and content titles, levels and credits of all reviewed unit standards updated unit standard 6401 added to qualification total credits have increased from 88 to 93 level added to title of the qualification. All existing candidates may complete version 1 of this qualification or transfer their existing achievements to version 2. It is anticipated that no existing candidates are disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. However, candidates may appeal in the first instance to, which will consider any appeal on a case by case basis. Version 1 of this qualification and the National Certificate in Equine (Grade 1 Coaching) [Ref: 0656], jointly replaced the National Certificate in Equine (Coaching) with strands in New Zealand Equestrian Federation Community Coach and New Zealand Pony Club Association Senior Instructor [Ref: 0252], and the National Certificate in Equine (Intermediate Instructor) [Ref: 0267]. The transition period has now expired and the final date for the award of the replaced qualifications was 31 December 2000. Classification This qualification is classified according to the classification system listed on the Directory of Assessment Standards (DAS) and the New Zealand Standard Classification of Education (NZSCED) system as specified below.
