Term 3 Week 6 30 th August, 2018 Hello everyone, On Monday and Tuesday this week Em Huzzell, Maddy Gebert and I attended a conference on Literacy and Numeracy improvement. We were fortunate enough to hear Mr Eddie Wu speak on Monday about connecting the teaching of maths to the heart not just the head. Listening to someone who is regarded as Australia s best teacher about a topic he is passionate about teaching was engaging, insightful and powerful. He actually has his own internet channel called WuTube, which I can highly recommend having a look at. On Tuesday, the guest speaker was Dr Misty Adoniou. Dr Adoniou s talk was about reconnecting young people with the power of language and what our roles as educators are to provide the opportunities for young people to do this. She re-told the children s book, Fox by Margaret Wild in her own words. She then analysed the original opening sentence from the book and unpacked the language the author used, highlighting the power of the words the author chose to engage the reader. It was an extremely thought provoking presentation and challenged us to reflect on how we teach Language and Literacy to young people. Aaron McPherson THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Friends are those who care without hesitation, remember without limitation and love you for who you are. Phillipa From the Leadership Team Hi, Last week on Friday 24 th August, I was lucky enough to head out for a day with the Boys Football SAPSASA team. It was fantastic weather and the twenty one Year 6/7 boys who joined the EPPS team this year, were keen to have a great day. On the day we received some great parent support with transport, coaching and a cheer squad, which was absolutely fabulous. A special mention needs to go to Craig Millar for his offer to coach the team for the day. He did a fantastic job at making sure the boys knew where to play, helped them come together as a team and ensured they had many highlights throughout the day. The team quickly gelled together with some of our more experienced players, teaching and supporting our novice players. The boys came away with two wins out of the six games they played. It was a really enjoyable day and yet another excellent display of the students at EPPS showing and using their RITCHR values in our community. Well done boys! I sent a note home in Week 3 to the eldest in each family. The note was in regards to the Parents in Education Week this week. The free parent seminars have been run throughout this week at the Entertainment Centre, with the final on Thursday night. If you were unable to attend the training sessions, but would like the opportunity to view them, please complete and send back the form I sent home or contact the office to register your interest. If there is enough interest we will be sharing a viewing of one of the sessions one night after school this term.
