Dear Learn to Skate USA Parents: The Bog Arena and Yarmouth Ice Club are pleased to host the Winter Classic Learn to Skate Challenge at the Bog Arena on Monday, January 15, 2018. The Winter Classic is an opportunity for Learn to Skate USA skaters to showcase their skills in a competition meant to support their development and celebrate their accomplishments. We will offer small group competition for Snowplow Sam, Basic 1 through 6 and Free Skate 1 6 skaters. Participants will receive a t-shirt and medals will be awarded for 1st through 4th place in every category. Everyone will receive a medal. 2018 is a Winter Olympic year so the Yarmouth Ice Club will hold a special opening ceremony that will include performances by Yarmouth Ice Club figure skaters. Medal ceremonies will occur throughout the event, culminating with a closing ceremony that includes ALL competitors from the day. The Yarmouth Ice Club is offering the Winter Classic Learn to Skate Challenge to encourage young skaters to test their skills, celebrate their accomplishments and get excited for the 2018 Winter Olympics. The application for the Winter Classic is attached. Winter Classic Learn to Skate Challenge Date: Monday, January 15, 2018 Place: The Bog Arena, 188 Summer Street, Kingston, MA Time: 12:00 PM 2:00 PM ELIGIBILITY The Winter Classic Learn to Skate Challenge is open to ALL eligible skaters who are members of either the Learn to Skate USA program at the Bog Arena or Tony Kent Arena and/or are full members of the Yarmouth Ice Club. ALL current year Learn to Skate participants and Yarmouth Ice Club members have a VALID US Figure Skating membership number. See Joan Bunnell or Renee Roos if you need to obtain number. ENTRIES All entries must be postmarked no later than December 15, 2017 and are limited to the first 200 applications received. Late entries will be accepted only if the competition limit has not been reached. FEES Entry fees are per person. Each event entered is $20.00 per entry and NO refunds will be given after the closing date unless the Yarmouth Ice Club cancels the event. Every skater will receive a t-shirt. ENTRY FORMS MUST BE FILLED OUT COMPLETELY and returned with payment in the form a check payable to the Yarmouth Ice Club (or YIC). There will be a fee for returned checks. Medals will be awarded to first, second, third and fourth place. Awards ceremonies will be held throughout the event, announced during the event and posted at the Registration Desk. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS The event schedule will be posted to the Yarmouth Ice Club website at www.yarmouthiceclub.org by January 8 th and will also be available at the Bog Arena (see Joan Bunnell) and Tony Kent Arena (see Renee Roos). MUSIC The music for all free skating programs must be provided on CDs by the skater. CDs should be clearly marked with the name of the skater, event entered and length of music (not skating time). Competition music is to be turned in at the time of registration. Time duration is always +/- 10 seconds. VIDEO TAPING AND PHOTOGRAPHS Parents, family and friends are welcome to photograph and/or videotape their children during events and at the awards ceremony. TEST TRACK FREE SKATE General event parameters: Skaters may not enter both a Well Balanced Free Skate event and a Test Track Free Skate event at the same non-qualifying competition. Skaters will skate to the music of their choice. Level will be determined by the highest free skate test passed. Skaters may compete at the highest level they have passed, or skate up to one level higher. Minimum number of spin revolutions are in ( ) following the spin description. Revolutions must be in position. The following deductions will be taken: 0.1 from each mark for each technical element included that is not permitted in the event description. 0.2 from the technical mark for each extra element included. 0.1 from the technical mark for any spin that is less than the required minimum revolutions.
