Emergency Response at VUW Who should take it: Any new, current and transferred staff who would like to be involved in emergency response and are not already involved in their Building Cluster. Understanding Emergency Response at Victoria University, the Building Cluster system, and the emergency equipment stored on site, including the contents of Civil Defence Cabinets and Building Cluster Kits. (1.5 hours) Fri 31 Thurs 25 Wed 26 Tues 26 Thur 30 Floor Warden Training Who should take it: staff floor wardens. Understanding and carrying out the roles of floor wardens and building wardens in different emergency situations, evacuation procedures and equipment, basics of fire prevention and precautions (1 hour). Thurs 27 Thurs 22 Tues 22 Weds 18 Building Warden Training Who should take it: Building and Deputy Wardens Understanding and carrying out the roles of floor wardens and building wardens in different emergency situations, evacuation procedures and equipment, basics of fire prevention and precautions, including specifics around your building (1 hour). Using a Fire Extinguisher Who should take it: All staff. Priority will be given to staff members in high-risk environments. Prerequisite: All applicants for this course must have completed the VUW Health and Safety Induction in 2016 or 2017. How to safely use a portable fire extinguisher, understanding the different types of fire extinguishers, basics of fire prevention and precautions (2 hours). Wed 24 Wed 19 BWA 102 Wed 4 First Aid Level 1 Who should take it: All staff where first aid is either a requirement of their role, or where there is no other first aider already present in the building. Priority will be given to staff members in high-risk environments. All applications are initially waitlisted so priority can be assessed, please apply to join the waitlist. Prerequisite: All applicants for this course must have completed the VUW Health and Safety Induction in 2016 or 2017. St Johns Comprehensive Level 1 First Aid course, including CPR. (1 day) Fri 24 Wed 12 Tues 13 Thurs 10 First Aid Refresher Who should take it: All staff with a certificate that is due for renewal or that has expired within the three months prior to the refresher course date. St Johns refresher course to maintain First Aid level 1 or 2 certificate. The course has a practical focus to reacquaint participants with first aid equipment and techniques.
