Event Centre & Venue The World Cup round 3 and 1 st Asian Ski Orienteering Championships event centre is Sanatorium «Zelenyi Bor» («Зелёный Бор») 9 km from centre of Shchuchinsk city (GPS: 53"00.19,69" N, 70"12.12,29" E, 390 m asl). Venue of the event is State national nature park Burabay situating between cities of Shchuchinsk and Borovoye. 3. Major changes compared to Bulletin 3 * Due to too little snow in some areas of the planned terrains middle distance race is moved to reserve area south-east from event centre (see the general map of the region below). * In connection to the above mentioned change of terrain there is also a change in order of races to be held middle distance race will be held on Saturday, 3 rd of March and mixed sprint relay on Sunday, 4 th of March.

5. General map of the region & embargoed area Embargoed areas are part of the State national nature park Burabay as shown on the map below. The indicated areas are embargoed for training according to Appendix 8 in IOF Ski Orienteering competition rules 2011 until appropriate events as indicated on the map have been held in the areas. 6. Classes and participation restrictions IOF member countries participate in the World Cup automatically. All member countries of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) can participate in Asian Championships, but non-iof member countries won t get World Cup points. Competition classes are M21 and W21. Each team may enter a team of up to 12 competitors up to 6 women and 6 men and an unlimited number of team officials. As well as the two extra official competitors (rule 6.10, IOF rules for the World Cup in Ski Orienteering), the organizing Federation may enter up to 10 additional national competitors (National Group) for the competition, but these must start prior to the official World Cup and Asian Championships competitors ad they cannot be awarded World Cup points or medals. In the mixed sprint relay teams consist of one man and one woman (or two women). Each federation can have a maximum of 6 teams in World Cup mixed sprint relay (except for the organizing Federation which may have up to 5 more). For the Asian Championships, each participating country can appoint up to two teams. More than two teams can participate, but only those two predetermined teams can get a medal and an official standing in the Asian Championships. 8. Competition areas, description of competition terrains Location of competition areas is shown on the general map of the region above. Competition terrains are part of State national nature park Burabay. Absolute heights in the national park are between 300 and 950 m. Height differences in competition areas are up to 75 m. Slopes in the terrain are of different steepness from very flat to very steep. There are lot of contour features, various rocky formations and stones on the slopes. Approximately 90% of the terrain is forest with relatively dense network of roads and paths. The forest is predominately pine forest with good sight and no undergrowth. Some birch forest occurs. Roads and paths are well suited for preparing ski tracks. Middle distance terrain is more flat, with less steep slopes and less rock features compared to other terrains. Previous maps of competition terrains for sprint, long and relay races are available as appendix to the Bulletin. Map of middle distance race will be used for model event, see below. 9. Model event and opportunities for training As middle distance race have been moved to reserve area, where Kazakhstan championships were held 3 weeks ago, the middle distance terrain and map will be available for training for all WCup participants during model event. Model event map will have tracks network from Kazakhstan championships. The network still exists in the terrain because no snowfalls have occurred since that event. A small part of model event map and terrain will have freshly driven tracks network and several

controls to show controls equipment setup. All the mapped terrain on model event map is open for WCup participants during the model event. For easy ski training there is a small ski-track loop at the event entre, which starts at the first corner of sanatorium building when you arrive to it. NB! The same loop will be used for warm-up before sprint competition. Participants are not allowed to cross major road east from the event centre during their trainings before sprint and long distance competitions! Location of ski track for training: 10. Punching system SPORTident (SI) punching system with ordinary SI-cards and punching units will be used. If participants don t have their own SI-cards, these will be provided by the organizer. In addition to ordinary SI-cards SI-Active cards will be handed out to competitors. These are used for time keeping on finish line. For sprint competition electronic start gate will be used. All SPORTident equipment will be demonstrated at the Model Event on February 28. 11. Maps and courses Course lengths and winning times of each course, map scales and contour intervals. leg 12. Refreshments Refreshment control will be equipped at the arena during long distance race. Men s course passes the control twice and women s course once during the race. Warm water will be offered. Teams own refreshments are allowed during middle distance and long distance races there are designated areas for equipment deposit and refreshements at the arenas. 13. Entries to the competitions and start group allocation Entries to every competition have to be handed in to organizers on official entry forms distributed to the teams in team packages upon arrival. Please follow strictly the entry deadlines specified in the chapter Programme above. Entries can be handed in to organizers either in WCup office at event centre or at model event/finish area (if deadline is set to be during on-going event). Start list will be set up according to WCup and World Ranking standings. 15. Arenas (Start/Finish areas) Detailed information about every start and finish area and available facilities will be given at appropriate team officials meetings. Toilets will be available at all arenas. 16. Number bibs Number bibs will be used for all races, number bibs will be issued at team officials meetings and must be attached to competitor s right leg. 17. New competition maps New competition maps will be issued after every competition to team officials at event office.

18. Waxing facilities Waxing is allowed in a gym on 2nd floor of event centre building (next to event office). There will be no special waxing facilities in start/finish areas except in mixed sprint relay, where indoor waxing rooms are available in basement of ski stadium building. 19. Weather forecast and snow conditions According to weather forecast daily temperature during the WCup round 3 varies between -2 and -10 C and night temperature between -20 C and -9 C. Wind 1-4 m/s. Snowfall possibility on Sunday, March 4. Snow depth in the terrains is from 0,1 to 0,3 m, mainly old, coarse-grained snow. 20. Transport during the event Participants are allowed to use their own transport to drive from accommodation to competitions and model event. No transport is needed between event centre and sprint/long distance arena as this arena is in range of 1 km from event centre. Organizer s buses are available for participants who have pre-booked and payed transport ( 20) to model event, middle distance and mixed sprint relay. Transport from event Centre to opening ceremony and back will be organised by WCup organizer and is included in start fee. Bus stop is situated at parking lot of event centre. 21. Catering All meals (except the banquet) will be served in dining halls on first floor of event centre building. There are 2 dining halls. In the left hall (lower) high-calorie diet will be served and in the right hall (upper) standard meals will be served. Teams, who have ordered and paid high-calorie diet, get pink ID-badges, all other get ID-badges of some other colour. 22. Complaints and protests Complaints and protests shall be made according to the competition rules 27 and 28. Any complaint shall be made in writing and handed over to the organizer at the arena. Complaints have to be made as soon as possible and not later than 1 hour after the episode or notice. However, no complaints can be received later than 15 minutes after the official results are presented. A written protest can be made against the organizer's decision about a complaint. Written protests shall be delivered to the IOF Event Advisor or Jury member as soon as possible, but within one hour after the organizer has announced its decision about a complaint. 23. Sightseeing On 2 nd of March following sightseeing alternatives will be offered A. Sightseeing bus-tour in Burabay national park

Burabay national park is a land of legends and songs, unusual rocks and blue lakes. The tour will take you to Homsk mountain pass, where you can enjoy views on Zheke-batyr ( A lonely strongman ) mountain and Burabay ( A camel ) mountain, ensemble of rocks Uzh-Kyz ( The three sisters ), rock Okzhetpes ( The arrow will not reach ), a holy place The throne of Abylai-Khan. We will walk over ice on lake Borovoye to Zhumbaktas rock ( Mysterious rock ). Tour duration approximately 2,5 h, price 500 TNG/person. B. Bus tour+hike to the Bolektau mountain The tour will take you to the Bolektau mountain where you can have overlook over all prominent tourism objects of Burabay area. Relative height 150 m. Tour duration approximately 2,5 h, price 500 TNG/person. C. Horseriding tour Horseriding, riding on sledges. Duration approximately 1 hour, price 1500 TNG/person.
