FROM THE PRESIDENT Hello everyone Once again it is time for me to put something together for our newsletter and I always struggle to get the first few words down but here goes. Firstly I think the Roll of honour should be mentioned. This will take place on November the 10 th at the Auckland Car club rooms. If last year is anything to go by we will looking forward to another full house with many esteemed guests and recipients both locally and international it will be one event to put on your calendar. Auckland, Northern Sports and Hibiscus Car Clubs combined have just successfully run the second Far North Rally out of Paihia and I am pleased to say it was up on entries from last year with the inclusion of the Classic rally cars. Congratulations to our overall winners Andrew Hawkeswood and Jeff Cress and the Classic class winners Geoff James and Keri-anne James. The feedback from all competitors was very positive and encouraging to continue on with the planning for next year s event. Although a little late for this edition of the newsletter we have now recruited Brian Rice (Rice Bubble or simply Bubble to those that know him well) to put together a historic piece for the newsletter each month and will surely be of interest to more senior members and quite probably those that are not quite so senior. Our history as a club is a fascinating and we wouldn t be what we are today without it. To continue on with the not so senior theme we would be delighted with expressions of interest from those that might not be so senior but have been in the club for some time to consider stepping on to the executive committee and have some input into the running and future of the club. And the flip side for those that are more senior and might have more time on their hands and would like to get more involved your experience would be welcomed. We have a very good and enthusiastic executive at the present time but as they say many hands can make light work. Please give me or any committee member a call if this could be you. We are now about to enter round two of the summer series at Pukekohe utilising circuit one (the new layout) and entry numbers are over 90 so that is very pleasing for a one day event. The weather forecast is dubious and hopefully we will have the weather gods on our side, particularly as we have just run round one at Hampton Downs a few weeks back in much less than ideal conditions. I have to say the competitors on that day for the most part behaved extremely well and driving was to high standard. Congratulations are in order for a few NZ international drivers Scott Dixon for another superb season in Indy cars, Steven Richards for his co-driver win at Bathurst, Brendon Hartley for his P6 start in Japan and of course Mad Mike Whidett for finishing first in the final of drift battle in Japan. Shane VanGisbergen has always been a favourite of mine and although a fourth at Bathurst is a very high achievement you have to wonder whether a slow rotor change cost him a podium finish. That s all from me folks See you at the track or come along to the club for a chat and a refreshment any Thursday evening. Brett Davy President

UPDATING YOUR ACC NUMBER WITH MSNZ Lately we have had a number of members contacting either the Secretary or myself, advising that they cannot renew their Motorsport Race or Rally Licence, due to the fact that they are showing as un-financial on the Motorsport web-site. This is due to the fact that when a member has renewed their Auckland Car Club membership, they have not gone to the Motorsport web-site and updated their Car Club Status. What needs to happen is as follows; Log-in to the Motorsport web-site. Go to the section profile Then to the section, manage my clubs There will be an icon that says Renew Club. I do not have it as I am current with my memberships. Once you have updated that I will get a message asking me to confirm that you are a member of Auckland Car Club. Then the process will complete and you will get an updated Motorsport Licence. If you have any problems, give me a call, and I will walk you through the process. Best Regards Terry Riding Membership Secretary 0274 968 824

NORTHERN MUSCLE CARS Round 1 Round 1 Hampton Downs (Sunday 2 nd September) Well for the first race of our new season we had a great entry and really bad weather. I know for sure we would have had another couple of entries if the forecast had of been better. It was great to see some members who have not raced with us recently back and into it. Dave Campbell, Michael Crawley, Sean Fowler, Greig Running, Dean Hansen and Pinky. There was a driver who entered but decided the sunny weather of Northern California where he has been racing recently was more to his liking than a track that was totally wet with small streams running across it. Qualifying went without incident other than ageing most of the drivers another couple of years, other than Greig Running didn t manage to get onto the track. Dean Hansen was fastest followed by Michael Crawley, Ross Golding and Pinky. Race 1 was interesting with Pinky getting away with less wheel spin than the bigger HP cars and was second out of the hairpin after Dean but soon to be swallowed by Michael Crawley and ultimately by Calvin, which was the finishing order. Race 2 was as usual our first handicap race with 4 cars starting from Pit Lane Dean of course being the last car away. I think most drivers had some fairly wild moments but there were no incidents requiring safety cars. The eventual winner was Grieg Running followed by Dean and then Veen. Race 3 started in slightly drier conditions but that soon changed so there was no doubt about which tires one should be using. This race was won by Michael who was having a blinder of a day after a year off, second was Colin in the Corvette who s big block torque and intermediate tyres was not exactly suited to the conditions, third was that flying yellow HQ of Deans. I really have to reiterate everyone s driving was exemplary in very very difficult conditions well done guys and we all get to race again in a few weeks at Pukekohe Park Raceway SATURDAY 13 th of October.

Class Placings after the round 1 are; Class A Class B: Invitation: 1 st : Dean Hansen, 2 nd =: Ross Golding and Calvin Andrew 1 st Michael Crawley, 2 nd : Greig Running, 3 rd : Wes Kidby 1 st Lee Budd

PRODUCTION RACE SERIES Round 1 Recap Last season saw Phil Hall win the sprint series and Attila Nyemetz win the endurance series. The Production Race Series had over 100 different drivers during the 7 rounds with a grid average of 35 cars per round. It s this success that has enabled the Series to attract national companies as sponsors. The start of a season is always a big thing for the team who runs a race class, The Production Race Series team headed to Hampton Downs with an entry of 36 cars much lower than the last two season but with the rule change on frontal head restraints being so close to the date it proved to be too much for some. For the second season the NZRRE (New Zealand Rotary Racing Enthusiasts) run with the Production Race Series working hand in hand and suppling some great grids of cars in the process. Qualifying, The weather was not on our side from the moment we arrived at Hampton Downs it was wet. The cars went out for qualifying and early on this session was red flagged with a car in the gravel at turn one. For cars that had been able to set a time special permission was sort allowing them to join other classes to set a lap thank you to all that made this happen. Race 1, Again the rain had hit very hard just before the start and the track had major rivers at a number of turns. Lap one saw Treva Smith in a BMW E46 M3 out in front as Treva reached the top of the hill by pit entry one of these rivers proved to be an issue for all of the field at least a dozen cars fish tailing to the start line at speed. Unfortunately this caught out a couple of the RX7 FDs running with us, and brought out a red flag two laps into it when Elton hit the wall at speed on the front straight. Luckily Elton was unhurt, but the same couldn't be said about his RX7. Both will be back at round two though, so great to see such a positive attitude. The race restarted, but in the running order from the previous lap with the weather as poor it became of about just staying on the track then racing. A Series meeting has held with the rain falling during lunch time and PRS and NZRRE had a class meeting and decided to call it a day for safety reasons, before we lost any more cars. As a result no points were awarded, but all entrants of round one will effectively get double points at round two (Saturday 13th of October at Pukekohe) Lastly a huge thank you to everyone that makes these days possible even the wet ones. We look forward to seeing you at round two.

PRODUCTION MUSCLE CARS Round 1 It was a good start to the season with 11 cars on the grid, 3 of those being new PMC drivers and the return of some original members as well as the regular attendees. New drivers Natalie Waite (#27 Holden Commodore) and Megan Humphreys (#7 Chev Monza) did well at their first meeting. The weather was not on our side, it was a very wet track. Ashely Sherlock and Ross Golding where the fastest timed cars on the day well done guys, and well done to Mike Oldham for winning the round and taking home the Ian Bean Memorial Trophy. Thank you to our round sponsor Stang Media for sponsoring the win your entry back draw and the after BBQ. Thank you to all the officials and especially the volunteers that stood out in that horrible weather so we could go racing, your efforts do not go unnoticed. RACING SALOONS
