SERIES: The Blue Hose and Gamecocks will be meeting for the 58th time and the first time since a South Carolina 5-4 win in the 1998 season. The Gamecocks hold the all-time series advantage at 38-19 in a series that started in 1901..500: The Blue Hose are currently 5-5 on the season. They have been above.500 twice this season, closing out the month of February 3-2 and improving to 4-3 after taking two of three games from Marist to start the month of March. PC is 2-3 in the month of March entering the South Carolina game. ON THE RADIO: The 2008 season marks the beginning of a new era of radio for PC baseball as it is the first season that new radio flagship Real Radio 860 WLBG will broadcast Blue Hose baseball. The South Carolina contest will be the first baseball broadcast of the year on the Presbyterian College Sports Network. The Voice of the Blue Hose, John Avery, will provide play-by-play for the contest, while President and CEO of the Laurens YMCA, Brian Harlan, will provide color commentary. The game will be able to be heard live on the Internet at WLBG.com or in the Laurens area on Real Radio 860 WLBG. LISTEN IN THE SARGE: Blue Hose fans planning on being inside Sarge Frye Field on Monday can listen to the Presbyterian College Sports Network Broadcast inside of the stadium. Just tune your FM dials to 92.7 to listen to Avery and Harlan break down all the night's action.

IN THE RANKS: The Gamecocks of South Carolina are the first NCAA Division I nationallyranked program to play the Blue Hose in baseball since their move to DI this season. The Gamecocks are currently ranked third by Collegiate Baseball and ninth by Baseball America. SOMETHING IN COMMON: The Blue Hose and Gamecocks have played two common opponents in the 2008 season in UNC Asheville and Charlotte. The Gamecocks tallied a 12-0 victory over UNCA, while the Blue Hose dropped two games in a three-game series with Asheville. PC earned its first NCAA DIvision I victory with a 4-2 victory in game two of a season-opening twinbill with the Bulldogs. South Carolina was defeated 11-2 by Charlotte on Wednesday, March 5, while the Blue Hose bested the 49ers 5-2 at the PC Baseball Complex on Tuesday, Feb. 26. EXTRA, EXTRA: PC went into extra innings for the first time as an NCAA Division I school in its last game against Florida A&M, earning a 10-9 win in the 11th inning against FAMU. Florida A&M (1-8) scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to build a 6-1 lead over the Blue Hose (5-5), but the Blue Hose staged a five-run rally in the top of the ninth to force extra innings. In the top of the 10th inning, PC shortstop Zac Rhinesmith lashed an RBI single to right, scoring Jared Combs for a 7-6 lead. FAMU tied the game in the bottom of the inning, 7-7, when Corey McFadden belted a solo home run to left field. Casey Carlson then drove in a run in with a single to give PC an 8-7 lead in the top of the 11th. The Blue Hose went on to score two more runs in the 11th to take a 10-7 lead. Florida A&M rallied in the bottom of the 11th, scoring two runs, but PC held off the rally to take the win and move back to.500. PC managed 13 hits in the victory with Drew Wingo leading with three hits. The trio of Jesse Harmon, Rhinesmith and Robbie Anders each had two hits for PC. Zach Snipes was the winning pitcher for PC, working three and one-third innings of relief. The win was the first of the year for Snipes (1-0). Andrew Cockerham fanned two in the 11th to pick up his first save of the 2008 season. Julian Bailey (0-1) took the loss for FAMU, giving up three runs in one and one-third innings with one strikeout. A LITTLE EXTRA: The extra-inning win over FAMU may have been the first extra inning game of the year for PC, but it is not a first under Elton Pollock for PC. The Blue Hose played in five extra-inning games last year. They were 2-3 in the games last year, downing Belmont-Abbey 10-9 at the PC Baseball Complex in 10 innings and besting Carson-Newman 5-4 in nine innings in a scheduled seven-inning affair at the PC Baseball Complex. The win over FAMU on March 6 improved PC to 3-3 in the last two years in extra-inning games. Overall in Pollock's four years at the helm of the Blue Hose baseball program, PC is 8-7 in extra-inning games. A FIRST: PC's extra-inning victory over the Rattlers of Florida A&M earned the Blue Hose their first road win of the year and as an NCAA Division I institution. FIRST DI SERIES: The Blue Hose claimed their first NCAA Division I series by taking two out of three from the Marist Red Foxes. WHO'S COMING WITH ME: Presbyterian College's Jesse Harmon enters the South Carolina in the midst of a team-high nine-game hitting streak. After going hitless in PC's season opener against UNC Asheville, Harmon has now hit safely in every PC game since. Harmon was 2-for-4 in the win over Florida A&M, acquiring three RBIs and scoring two runs. Overall, Harmon is hitting a team second-best.385 (15-for-39) with five RBIs.

HARMONIOUS: Harmon is leading the Blue Hose with seven extra-base hits this season. Harmon has hit six doubles this season. He has one triple in 2008. The sophomore from Newberry, S.C. is also leading the team in the multiple hits category. Harmon has secured two hits in four games, while he has recorded three hits in one game. MULTIPLES: Senior First Baseman Steven Henry is leading the Blue Hose this season in multiple RBI games. Henry has recorded multiple RBIs in three of PC's 10 games. NO RELATION: Although there is no relation, PC catcher Drew Wingo played his high school baseball at Mauldin High School with South Carolina freshman second baseman Scott Wingo. PC's Wingo is currently leading the team with a.438 batting average (7-of- 16). Wingo has scored five runs and picked up two RBIs this season. FIRST DI WIN: Presbyterian College s baseball team picked up its first NCAA Division I victory on Saturday, February 23 with a 4-2 game two win over the UNC Asheville Bulldogs at the PC Baseball Complex. The game two victory by PC earned the Blue Hose a split with UNCA in their season-opening doubleheader. In PC s 4-2 win in game two the Blue Hose allowed the Bulldogs to strike first and take a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the first inning. The lead would not last. In fact, PC scored three runs in the bottom half of the first inning and never looked back. Jesse Harmon got things going for the Blue Hose in the frame by doubling to left centerfield. Cory Lyda then gave PC its first run of the 2008 season by hitting a double to right field to plate Harmon. The score 1-1, Lyda then scored on an error by the UNCA first baseman to give PC a 2-1 advantage. Freshman Nate Horton a couple batters later then singled up the middle to score Casey Carlson and give PC the eventual game-winning run. Asheville would score one run in the top of the third to make it 3-2, but PC plated one more in the sixth inning to place the game out of reach. Zac Rhinesmith acquired the RBI for PC in the sixth when he sacrificed to right field to bring in Steven Henry, who had doubled down the line to start the inning for PC. Overall in PC s first DI win, Horton led PC, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI at the dish. He was the only PC player to record multiple hits. Ben Dollar pitched seven strong innings against UNC Asheville to earn his first victory of the season from the hill. Dollar allowed just three hits and fanned six in the 4-2 game two win. PERFECT: The Blue Hose are perfect in 2008 when leading after the sixth inning and beyond, entering the South Carolina game 4-0 when leading after six and 3-0 when leading after the seventh and eighth innings. AT NIGHT: The Blue Hose have only played one game at night prior to South Carolina, falling 12-10 to North Florida on Tuesday, March 4. GOOD WHEN IT IS CLOSE: The Blue Hose have been strong at closing out one run contests so far in 2008. PC is a perfect 3-0 this season in one run games, besting Marist twice in one runs contests (2-1 game one; 7-6 game three) and downing FAMU 10-9 in their last game. KEEP IT INSIDE: The Blue Hose have not won a game yet this season in which they have hit the ball out of the park. They are 5-2 in contests where they have not gone yard.

HEAD COACH ELTON POLLOCK Elton Pollock, a 1995 graduate of Presbyterian College, begins his fourth season as head coach of the Blue Hose baseball program. He is the third head coach in the modern day history of the Blue Hose baseball program since it was restarted in the 1988 season. In the 2007 season, Pollock and the Blue Hose finished with their highest winning percentage under his guidance. Overall, PC concluded their final DII season with 18 victories, including 13 at the PC Baseball Complex. In his second season in 2006, Pollock guided the Blue Hose to more wins than they had acquired in his first year in charge overall with 19. PC finished with seven league victories. The Blue Hose also picked up a win in the Food Lion SAC Tournament. In his first season in 2005, Pollock coached a young team to a record of 17 wins against 40 losses that included a 6-15 mark in the South Atlantic Conference regular season. The Blue Hose made great strides down the stretch, including in the 2005 Food Lion SAC Tournament. After losing to top seed Catawba College, PC responded by elimanting Mars Hill College and Newberry College to advance to the semifinals of the elimination bracket. Prior to his return to PC, Pollock had spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach with the Blue Hose baseball program, including the 2004 campaign as a volunteer assistant coach. He is the former owner of Diamond League, Inc. (professional indoor training center) in Laurens, S.C. Pollock, a former two-sport standout at Presbyterian College from 1992-95, returned to his alma mater in 2002 after spending seven years in the business world, most recently with WorldCom in Cary, N.C. Prior to his stint at WorldCom, he worked with Delta Airlines and was a loan officer at Allison Mortgage and Palmetto Funding Group. Pollock earned a bachelor of science degree in Sociology with a minor in Computer Science from Presbyterian College in 1995. During his time at PC, he was a three-year letterwinner with the football team and a four-year letterwinner with the baseball team. Pollock finished an impressive baseball career at PC as the program s career leader in home runs (34), while ranking second in slugging percentage (.616) and triples (11), third in total bases (382), tied for fourth in runs scored (169), and fifth in batting average (.348). Following graduation, Pollock was drafted in the 15th round of the 1995 Major League Baseball Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He spent three years in their minor league system before retiring in 1997. Pollock is married to the former Karen Prioleau of Greenville, S.C., and the couple has two daughters, Madison (5) and Lauren (3). The Pollock family lives in Laurens, S.C.
