Mother Nature teased us last weekend with a couple very nice days and nights just to return to the heat and humidity that we have seen all season. Fall cannot come soon enough for me.

The big topic over the last couple months has been the condition of the greens. The heat, rain, and humidity has caused several golf courses, including ours, to lose bentgrass on the putting surfaces. We are now on the road to recovery. All of our greens have been seeded once and the front 9 greens have been seeded twice. We can see much germination of the first seeding on the front 9 holes as they have been closed and we had a couple days of nice slow, light rain to help the seed to pop out of the ground. The back nine greens were seeded a week after the front 9. We are slowly beginning to see small amounts of seed germination with hopefully much more to come soon. Once we see how much of the first seed on those greens will make it, then we will seed them again. This is a short term solution to our long term problem. Many questions and concerns were brought up in the August Board meeting about where we are headed with the greens here. I know that the Board of Directors as well as myself are looking at any and all long term solutions to this problem. We will keep the membership updated as soon as any of these solutions are recommended. All 18 holes are slated to be open in time for the Men s Member Guest Tournament on September 10 and 11. We will evaluate the greens after that weekend and proceed appropriately with any closures that may have to occur if more seeding or downtime is needed. Soon the days and nights will be cooler and the greens will be back in good shape, and hopefully we look forward to the fall planning for the golf course. We will have many small and larger projects to complete over the fall and winter seasons in preparation for next season. Our staff is looking forward to the fall season and next year. David Farris, Golf Course Superintendent and Staff Board of Directors' Meeting The September meeting of the RHCC Board of Directors will be Monday, September 12th, at 6:00 PM at the Rolling Hills Clubhouse. All members are invited to attend. Men's Scramble Finale' The Men's Scramble Finale' is Sunday, September 4th. If you have a USGA handicap, are a member in good standing, and have competed in 10 Thursday scrambles, you are eligible. (A) players will be responsible for making tee times and contacting team. This will be an 18 hole event played on the same nine holes consecutively.
