6.9 Uniform Requirements Uniform Policy 1. Purpose of policy The purpose of this policy is to outline the uniform requirements for students enrolled at Cedars Christian College and the procedures for the enforcement of uniform. 2. Applicability Applies to all students, parents and staff at Cedars Christian College. 3. Definitions Uniform - unless otherwise specified, the word uniform refers to the wearing of the complete student uniform, appropriate to the season. Sport Uniform refers to the uniform worn by students for sport, physical education lessons, sporting carnivals and gala days. 4. Policy content a) Aims The school uniform is an important part of the overall image of the College. The purpose of the uniform is to; maintain and enhance the positive image of the College in the community develop a sense of pride in, and identification with our school provide security for children travelling to and from College and on excursions provide durable clothing that is cost effective and practical for our College community provide students the opportunity to individually choose to accept the authority of the College and be part of the College student community. b) Policy Full school uniform must be worn every day unless a note is sent home from the College advising otherwise. Full school uniform is required on all excursions unless the excursion note specifically states other apparel. If a student is not able to be in full school uniform for some reason they should have a note written in their diary from their parent or guardian explaining: the reason why they are not in full uniform; and, when we can expect them to be back in full uniform.
Students who present at the College not in uniform and without a note are failing to follow reasonable instructions of College staff. c) Procedures Encourage Adherence to the Uniform Policy Staff thank students for their compliance Consistent enforcement Clear communication to parents about expectations Explain how uniform compliance is a reflection of compliance to authority in life Seeking the help and support of students through Student Leadership Council Seeking the help and support of parents through the Parents and Friends Association meetings and Parent Information Evenings Monitoring of Uniform All staff members have the responsibility of checking students for adherence to the uniform policy. This is especially important for the Homeroom Teacher and Form Coordinator who must check uniform at roll call each morning and ensure students are compliant with all issues of uniform. The Deputy Principal and sub school Welfare Coordinators will support staff with spot checks. All issues of non-compliance should be referred to the students Class/Homeroom Teacher or Form Coordinator. Students not in uniform without an explanatory note need to have details of the infringement recorded in their diary and further disciplinary action organised by the Class/Homeroom Teacher or Form Coordinator. Continuing to attend school out of uniform without explanation is a serious issue. Such behaviour reflects a failure to follow reasonable instructions of College staff. This behaviour may result in an internal or external suspension. The student will only be able to return to school after they, their parents and the Deputy Principal have met and a satisfactory arrangement has been reached. Students who are not in full school uniform will not be permitted to represent the school by attending events outside the college such as excursions and interschool competitions. This also applies to students in sporting teams. Those not in full sports uniform are ineligible to represent the school at carnivals and gala days. d) The College Uniform Jewellery Jewellery is not part of the College Uniform.
