I t is hard to believe that Fall is already here. The season seems to go so quickly. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and a few more rounds can be played this year. Thanks go out to Todd and his crew for their superior efforts in keeping our course in such excellent shape despite the limited budget given to them. We received so many compliments this season from our guests, both green fee players and reciprocal players, on the beauty and condition of the course. Also, thanks to Tim and the pro shop staff for their work in conducting the day to day business of generating income for the club and serving the members and our guests. Sam Osmen and his staff provided excellent steward services throughout the year, providing excellent food upstairs and in the snack bar. Many compliments were received on the Friday dinners, lunches and banquets prepared by Sam and the staff. Once again, Luanne did an excellent job in managing the finances of the club under trying circumstances. There is no secret that Wayne Hills, along with many other clubs, continues to struggle with the poor economy welcome. and seeming flagging interest in golf. She does in excellent job in managing our income and expenses in order to keep our doors open. Thanks once more to Sue Drum for generating a beautifully composed newsletter. Having seen newsletters from other clubs, ours is one of the outstanding. The Semi-Annual meeting was sparsely attended. It is sometimes disheartening to see a lack of interest in the business of the club. We all love Wayne Hills and want to continue its legacy of excellence. However, that desire is a communal effort among all of us. The Board can do only so much without the support and cooperation of the members. If we want the club to continue as we know it, we will all have to sacrifice, financially and time-wise. Suggestions to improve, generate income and enhance the golf experience are always welcome. Suggestions to improve, generate income and enhance the golf experience are always At the Semi-Annual Meeting, Bill Hendricks welcomed the members and started with a brief financial condition of the club. The Board and departments saved $37,000 on the expense side of the budget and public play revenue was down by $42,000 (due to a rainy June). Bob Brisky directed the members to the Course, Equipment and Goals for 2016 Summary that set forth what we hope to accomplish next year. He also stated the deck staining and new shingles on the scoreboard will also be done next year. Todd VanKouwenberg stated the sand stored across the street came from the right side bunker of 10 and will be used in the 17 th fairway bunker to create two smaller bunkers. This will complete the back 9 with sand in all the bunkers. Also note, the front bunker on 15 will be redesigned. The last two forward tee boxes will be completed and the course can be rated next season for the intermediate and short tees. Mike De Renzo mentioned the success of the Senior Tuesday Special and how it filled out the tee sheet on Tuesday afternoons. He read through the list of Marketing vendors used this season. Tim Phelps and I will be working on posting specials on the website where there are slow times on the tee sheets. Public would then be able to check the website for daily specials. Bill Hendricks reviewed the Dues Structure stating the Dues will increase by 2% but cart fees would stay the same. The family add-on is still quite reasonable. Mike DeRenzo made a motion to accept the Dues presented for the 2016 season and seconded by Tracy Rankert. The motion was approved by all in attendance. Bill Hendricks stated there is still time to petition for a position on next year's Board. The current nominees recommended by the Board are Lauren Maddock, William Hendricks and Tracy Rankert. Respectfully, Rick Youngman Wayne Hills News / Volume 56/ No. 5 / October 2015 2

Tuesday, October 13 Tuesday, November 10 Monday, December 7 Annual Meeting 7:00 PM Tuesday, December 8 (subject to change) A golfer sets up his ball on the first tee, took a mighty swing and hit his ball into a clump of trees. He found his ball and saw an opening between two trees he thought he could hit through. Taking out his 3- wood, he took another mighty swing; the ball hit a tree, bounced back, hit him in the forehead and killed him. As he approached the gates of Heaven, St. Peter saw him coming and asked, "Are you a good golfer", to which the man replied: "Got here in two, didn't I?" Phelps Don t Fall for the Sucker Pin Do you know a "sucker pin" when you see one? It's tucked behind a bunker or water hazard, or maybe perched on the tiniest shelf of a two-tiered green. Perhaps it sits at the bottom of a large slope, with trouble lurking dangerously close in the other direction. Basically a sucker pin is in any location where the risk-reward equation doesn't add up in your favor. If you take dead aim at a sucker pin, there's usually a big penalty for a minor mistake. The flip side is, there's often plenty of room to play it safe. Here's an example: * The flag is cut on the green s front right portion, just a few paces beyond a large bunker. * To reach the pin you must carry the bunker, with little room to land and stop the ball even if you succeed. * The center of the green lies left of the pin, and the front of the green is hazard-free. A shot to the "fat" of the green not only takes the bunker out of play (assuming you execute well), it leaves a put of no more than 30 feet. In other words, even if you pull off the hero shot, your chances of making birdie are only slightly better than if you play to the middle of the green. And the penalty for a miss is much, much worse. Only a sucker would take that risk! Tim Phelps, Golf Professional Wayne Hills News / Volume 56/ No. 5 / October 2015 8
