The Roanoke Skier The Monthly Newsletter for the Roanoke Ski Club June 2018 President s Message HAPPY SUMMER RSC! Summer fun is here but your RSC Board is still hard at work on our 2018-2019 budget and trip planning. The new budget for the General Operating Account is based on the previous year's income and expenses. I have great news on last year's success, and I want to make sure all members are able to share the excitement. Our membership continues to increase, and our strong financial growth is quite notable. The board diligently strives to be good financial stewards while maintaining our vibrant membership meetings and social gatherings. Here is the good news by the numbers. Membership Increased 10% 50/50 Raffle Sales Up 78% Holiday Party Ticket Sales Up 25% Total Income Increased 16% Expenses stayed the same, which includes the extra expense for the February free Lasagna Dinner at HVCC! We added $2,000 to the General Operating Account, bringing us significantly closer to our goal of keeping one year's total of expenses in our General Account. Good financial planning to start the new season off swimmingly! Thank you for making your club so successful. PS. make sure you mark your calendars for the Kick Off Party July 15th. Respectfully, Marla Kemsey President 1

The Roanoke Ski Club Mission Statement To actively promote and engage our members' appreciation of the outdoors, our love of skiing, travel, and adventure. 2

Trips Past and Future Well, this is my first year as Trip Director and I am looking forward to a season full of very exciting trips, many going to new destinations for the club. It seems our trip season gets longer with more trips each year. While the Beach trip (led by Pat Oberlin) and our 5 ski trips (Big Sky led by Kate Steinbacher), Snowmass/Aspen (Karen Saunders), Telluride (Shelly Gibson), Canaan Valley (Shelley Gibson and Dana Harlor), and our double-header to Telluride and Crested Butte (Marla Kemsey) are complete, we have two more trips underway as of this writing or planned. The Mediterranean Cruise with 3 days in Barcelona (Dave Brammer) was competed on May 25 th and our Croatian Adventure (Bill Fleshman) doesn t depart until September 7 th. Thanks to the trip leaders who led these trips, and thanks to the participants for supporting the club s trips! 3

Next Year s (2019) Trips Work is well underway on next season s trip lineup, as determined by your responses to the trip surveys! The destinations and dates (subject to change at this point) are as follows: Beach Week (late September) Canaan Valley /Timberline (end of January) Deer Valley February 2-9 Snowbird February 9-16 Jackson Hole February 23-March 2 Alpe d Huez/Paris March 17-26 Amsterdam/Rhine River Cruise (end of May 2019) African Safari (October 2019) So, save the dates for your favorite trips!
