Chicago is 7-1 in its last eight games vs. the Cardinals, all coming at Wrigley Field, and today aims to sweep multiple home series against St. Louis in the same season for the first time since 2006 (3-0 April 7-9 and 4-0 July 27-30) the Cubs earlier this season swept the Cardinals in a three-game set here, June 2-4. Following today s game, the Cubs enjoy tomorrow off before beginning their final trip of the regular season, a 10-game swing at the Rays (two games starting Tuesday), the Brewers (four games starting Thursday) and the Cardinals (four games beginning Sept. 25). The Cubs current five-game winning streak comes on the heels of a three-game skid Chicago is 7-6 in its last 13 games following a season-high tying six-game winning streak from August 28-September 2. Yesterday s victory secured Chicago s third-straight winning campaign dating to 2015 this is just the third stretch of at least three-straight winning campaigns for Chicago in the last 78 seasons starting in 1940 that includes a six-year run from 1967-72 and 2007-09. QUINTANA ON THE HILL: José Quintana today makes his 12th start for Chicago since he was acquired from the White Sox, July 13 he s allowed three or fewer earned runs in nine of his 11 starts, including each of his last three outings he is 6-2 with a 2.62 ERA (16 ER/55.0 IP) in those nine outings in which he s allowed three or fewer earned runs. Between the White Sox and Cubs, Quintana makes his 30th start of the season and will reach the 30-start mark for the fifth-straight campaign since 2013 he will be just the second lefty to reach 30 starts in each of the last five seasons, joining Wade Miley Cubs teammate Jon Lester will join this duo when he toes the rubber Tuesday in Tampa Bay. ELIAS SAYS: Kyle Hendricks yesterday allowed one run in 7.2 innings to earn the win and improve his record to 38-22 since making his major league debut with Chicago in 2014 Elias notes that only two other pitchers in the last 80 seasons have won 38 or more of their first 60 decisions in the majors and did it all in a Cubs uniform: Kerry Wood from 1998-2002 (38-22) and Mark Prior from 2002-05 (39-21). BREAKING UP: The Cubs have a 39-21 (.650) record since the All-Star Break, the second-best mark in baseball and trailing only the Indians (45-17,.726).
