TECHNICAL UPDATE A Word of Thanks - Summer 2015-2016 Our summer season virtually finished with the championships - winter swimming starts on Friday, 06 May). Thank you and well done to all those who helped run our Friday nights throughout the summer. Somehow we always came up with enough volunteers every night. In addition many people also volunteered their time as officials for area level activities. AND - as a reward you all get to do it all over again during our coming winter season. Club Championships Yet another successful championship is over. On each of the four nights we needed to provide a lot Technical Officials Marshalls, Checkstarters, Starters and Timekeepers. The nights went pretty smoothly due to the efforts that everyone put in. Our thanks to everyone who helped out. We couldn t have done it without you. We also thank those who helped set up and put away all the equipment and those who contributed to the Saturday night suppers. We needed a Chief and 24 Timekeepers, on every night. Thank you to our chiefs, Lena and Nick, and all those parents who operated the timing devices. We also thank Deidre Rees, our Carnival Convener, who organised the Timekeeper roster. Although not technically TOs, without the computer people we wouldn t have had the neatly compiled results. We thank all the operators for their work over the four nights. We also thank our Referees. Three of our Life Members, Tom Fegan, John McIntosh and Graham Taylor came along to assist with the refereeing. Our three trainee Refs, Andrew Marcer, Debbie Sharp and Jill Stone also made a major contribution. All three will begin the final training phase for Referee this week. New Technical Officials Over the course of the championships five Dolphins were assessed for TO Qualifications. Congratulations and well done to Ric Fogolin (Starter), Jane Oates (Marshall & Checkstarter), Teresa Marsden (Checkstarter), Kim Morrisey (Marshall) and Boris Napernikov (Timekeeper). Teresa and Kim will complete their qualifications early in our winter season. Boris assessment followed his successful completion of the on-line training package. Thank you to John McIntosh (a long serving Dolphins now retired and living on the central coast) and Ben Choo (Galston Swimming Club) who conducted the assessments.

Online Timekeeper Training If you are interested in qualifying as a Timekeeper you can now do the theory side of the qualification on-line and in your own time. Why not take advantage of the tween season break and start gaining a TO qualification. Once you have successfully completed the on-line training you will receive a certificate. You print this out and bring it to the club the next time you come. Arrangements will then be made for you to be assessed to become a fully accredited Timekeeper. To view the on-line training course visit the Swimming NSW training page - (https://nswtraining.swimming.org.au/). PLEASE NOTE: Online courses can be completed without being registered, however you must be registered with SNSW before you can be assessed. Dolphins successfully completing the online training should contact Ron Brettle to arrange their assessment. Ron can be contacted at the club of a Friday night or through our website at TO_training@castlehilldolphins.com.au. If you have any questions please contact Ron. Computer Operators Like most clubs these days we run our Friday night swimming using the Dolphin Oasis system. We need more computer operators to ensure that we can cover every Friday night. Our experienced operators can provide training and mentoring for newcomers. If you are interested, talk to the people on the recording table of a Friday night or contact our President, Andrew Marcer (president@castlehilldolphins.com.au). Technical Official training Swimming is a labour intensive sport. We always need more qualified TOs. The Metro North West Area will be conducting presentations for all TO positions (Marshall / Checkstarter, Starter, Chief Timekeeper, Timekeeper, and Recorder) next May. Full details will be promulgated as soon as they are available. Anyone interested in qualifying for any of the TO positions should contact Ron Brettle through our club website at: TO_training@castlehilldolphins.com.au.
