Treasurer s Report Jason Gallo Mr. Gallo presented budget and financial report. Motion made and approved to accept Mr. Gallo s financial report. Secretary s Report Kristine Thorpe
Vice President Shannon Young Ms. Young reported the following regarding Fall 2012 Rec League Soccer: o The schedules have been finalized o Referees are being scheduled. o Jerseys are in and are currently being distributed to directors and coaches. o Rec Coaches Administrative Meeting was held at Buffalo Wild Wings on Tuesday, August 28 th. o Ms. Young reported that there were not enough players in the U12-U14 league to generate two teams. Options had been discussed and decision was made to move registered U12 s and form a U10-U12 Co-Ed League. Five U13 and U14 players had registered. ALSO refunded their full registration fees and no programming will occur in ALSO Rec Soccer for U13 s and U14 s this fall. Ms. Young reported Challenger would like to host another camp in Avon Lake in Summer 2013. Board approved. Ms. Young to finalized this with Challenger. Registrar s Report Tim Smith Mr. Smith reported that registration is primarily closed. Fall registration had 493 participants sign up. Nine have withdrawn including 5 U13 or U14 players. The current net registration is 484 players which is an increase of 25 players from the year before. Field certifications have been filed with OYSAN. Mr. Smith reported that there were still Rec coaches who have not completed their risk management clearances. Directors present agreed to remind and follow up with coaches who have not completed this expectation yet. Commissioner s Report Keith Lopez Mr. Lopez reported that supplies had been handed out to rec coaches. Mr. Lopez reported that he still has some supplies if needed. Mr. Lopez reported that his next project is to clarify need and order balls for Avon Lake Father s Day Tournament. If ordered by November, supply should be in by March. Discussion was held about the ALSO ball purchased from DTI. Mr. Lopez agreed to look at other options. Co-Field Director s Report Willliam Keller & Caleb Reutter Fields were marked and lined in time for the season to start. Some minor line errors at Learwood have since faded and been corrected.
Boys U6/U7 Micro Director Phil Hock Mr. Hock reported that there are 140 boys registered to play on 12 teams in U6/U7 with 71 U7 s and 69 U6 s. Mr. Hock has jerseys already and will be distributing to coaches. Mr. Hock is still finalizing roster of assistant coaches. Girls U6/U7 Director s Report Spencer Ryan Mr. Ryan reported there are 110 girls registered on 8 teams. Boys U8/U9 Rec Director s Report Grey Kennedy There are approximately 75 boys playing on 8 teams this fall. Mr. Kennedy has jerseys and will be distributing to coaches. Girls U8/U9 Rec Director s Report Rob Kacmircek There are 103 girls on 8 teams Jerseys to be distributed to coaches. Mr. Kacmircek identified that requests for specific teams and/or coaches has been a struggle to accommodate this fall. He reported that he is pleased with the number of players that are being offered the opportunity to play but would like to find ways to reduce difficulty of building rosters. o Several options were discussed. Ms. Young agreed to discuss further with the four rec directors to see if a plan to manage special roster requests could be identified. Director of Coaching Development Michael Cracas Boys Travel Director s Report Chris Gee ALSO Day at ALHS Boys game will be this Saturday, September 8th vs. Highland (night game). JV starts at 5:00. Varsity starts at 7:00pm. Mr. Gee expressed concern that boys have games this Sunday and that Travel Basketball tryouts are being held on that day. Mr. Carr agreed to discuss with ALTBA to see if Sundays could be avoided in the future. Tournament Director s Report Steve Redman Girls Travel Director s Report Dawn Carlin ALSO Day at ALHS girls is scheduled for early October 1 st against Strongsville HS.
Director of Player Development Dan Gourash/Nate Norris Mr. Gourash presented the Travel Technical Training schedule for Fall 2012 to the board. President s Report Michael Carr Mr. Carr reports that OYSAN has several awards including Administrator of the Year, Coach of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, and Young Referee of the Year. Nominations can be made boy going to OYSAN website, www. Oysan.org. Mr. Carr reminded the board of several fundraising opportunities including Forevergreen which is offering both a 10% discount to ALSO members, but also will donate 10% of any ALSO identified sales to ALSO. Ms. Young reported that Rockpile has also agreed to provide donation to ALSO based on ALSO identified sales. Ms. Young to forward information to Mr. Carr who will post info on the website. Mr. Carr reported that the Crew is offering discounted ticket rates to ALSO members attending their game on September 29 th. Information is posted to ALSO website. Michelin and Conrad s will be starting a program shortly to provide a donation to ALSO for tires bought during a scheduled 30 day window. More details of this program will be available soon and posted to ALSO website when available. Old Business a) Player and Coach Development Program 2013: Mr. Cracas, Carr and Gourash will be working on this program through this winter as the Spring 2013 program will be different than in past seasons for travel soccer due to the completion of contract with Kiko. The rec soccer program may be similar to current season as this has been revamped over the past couple seasons and appears to be doing better with current structure. The rec technical training program is currently being run for 30 minutes on Saturday mornings prior to game play for U6 and U7 players and in an academy for format on Monday evenings for U8 and older players. Kiko Lopez and his staff are currently running the Saturday morning training and Dan Gourash is running the Monday academy trainings with assistance from the age group coaches. b) OYSAN Rec Soccer Grant: Mr. Carr reported that the deadline for submission for this grant is Friday, September 21, 2012. Several ideas had been discussed. Ms. Young is planning to work on a grant to provide an more authentic jersey for the U10 and older rec players and an incentive to encourage players to continue playing soccer. c) Technical Training Program: Mr. Gourash presented the training program for Fall 2012 which includes training for U6/U7 rec on Saturday mornings prior to their games, an academy style training for U8 and older rec players on Monday evenings, and technical training with Kiko Lopez s staff for most of the travel teams. The older boys teams will once again be training with Dan Ogilvy, the ALHS Boys coach.
d) Indoor Training Program: The Force has been talking with Mr. Carr about renting space for this indoor season. Mr. Gee and Mr. Gourash are going to work on this and will consider options that will incorporate the U8 Development Program and lessons learned from ALSO s experience indoors last winter. e) Fields Improvement Plan: Mr. Keller spoke with Forevergreen regarding longer-term plans for Learwood and Walker Road Park and should have a proposal of some sort by the end of the week. New Business a) Fundraiser for Craig Collins: It was reported that Craig Collins had suffered a stroke and that he and his family were having struggles as a result. Several board members reported that he has been involved in coaching several youth sports in Avon Lake including soccer with ALSO. In order to help Mr. Collins and his family a fundraiser is being organized with an event to be held at the Boneyard Grill in Westlake on Saturday, October 13 th. Discussion about whether and how ALSO might support Mr. Collins and his family. Motion made to put information regarding fundraiser for Mr. Collins. Motion approved. b) 2013 Board positions a. Mr. Carr asked board members to let him know whether they plan to return to board in 2013. Mr. Smith reported that it is his intention to step down from the board at the end of 2012. b.
