2018 CANADIAN JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS QUOTA POLICY December 2017

The 2018 Canadian Junior Championships presented by Toyota is part of the Canada Cup Series presented by Toyo Tires, and will occur in 2 locations in Canada based on disciplines: Mogul/Aerial Championships. Hereafter known as the MO/DM/AE Event o March 9-11, 2018 Apex, BC o Aerial National Championships will be combined with Canadian Junior Championships Park & Pipe Championships: Hereafter known as the SS/HP/BA Event o March 16-18, 2018 Mount St Louis Moonstone QUOTAS per EVENT Quotas will be given based on athletes participating in all 3 disciplines at each location. Receiving a Jr Championship spot at the MO/DM/AE Event means that you will receive a spot for M, DM, and AE. Likewise, your spot for the SS/HP/BA Event will give you a spot for HP, SS and BA. Quotas will not be calculated according to each discipline, they are given out for the entire Event. Freestyle Canada (FC) encourages athletes to prepare to ski in all three disciplines at each event according to our LTAD Train to Train recommendations. Refunds will not be given out for not participating in one of the 3 discipline. OVERVIEW OF QUOTA CALCULATION Provincial Quotas are figured on an annual basis. Quotas are determined by 3 aspects, in the following order; 1. BASE quota per province, 2. MEMBERSHIP: T/PSO percentage of athlete licenses from the previous year based on their Primary Discipline 3. PERFORMANCE: results from the previous year s Junior Championships 1. BASE Quota 1.1 Each T/PSO (9) with active PSOs by FC will receive four (4) base spots per Event: MO/DM/AE Event: Moguls, Dual Moguls, Aerials (4 spots) SS/HP/BA Event: Slopestyle, Halfpipe, Big Air (4 Spots) 2. MEMBERSHIP Quota: Number of Athlete Licenses from the previous membership year 1.1. License considered: CanFree1 and 2, CanFree3, CanFree4, FC HPP licenses. 1.2. Participation per event is collected through the FC s on-line registration database. 1.3. Member report with primary discipline are accounted for MEMBERSHIP Quota. 2.1. The Discipline Report allocates the results into 2 separate categories: MO and SS representing the 2 different Canadian Junior Championship events. 2

Mogul Membership Quotas include any one of: AE/DM/MO as one s selected primary discipline. Slopestyle Membership Quota include any one of SS/HP/BA as one s selected primary discipline: 3. PERFORMANCE Quota: 3.1 MOGULS and SLOPESTYLE Junior Championship results from the previous year are used to calculate performance quotas for the current Junior Championship. 3.2 The T/PSO s top performance in each age group/discipline is recorded and a quota spot is given to the T/PSO for 1 podium result in each category. For example: if a T/PSO received 4 podiums out of the 6 categories, 3 age categories for both genders (only their top 1 result counting)* they would receive 4 performance spots. * If a T/PSO had a sweep of the podium only the 1 st place is counted towards performance quotas, not all three results. A T/PSO may only count their top podium result per age category, per gender. 4. Round Robin Calculation 4.1. The round robin for unused spots is calculated by adding together the TOP 3 results for each T/PSO (aggregate). The lowest aggregate value of the top 3 results is at the top of the round robin EXAMPLE: A T/PSO gets a 1 st, 2 nd, 4 th, 21 st, 2 nd and 3 rd in a discipline their aggregate value would be 5. 4.2. In the case of a tie the number of results (only counting the top result per age/gender) will break the tie That same T/PSO would have 6 total results across all age/genders 4.3. The next tie breaker will count the number podiums results Same T/PSO would have 4 total podium 4.4. The next tie breaker will count the number of 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd place T/PSO would have 1-1 st place, 2-2 nd place and 1-3 rd place. 5. Quota Calculation PSO Event Quota = EMQ + EBQP + EPQp = [((EQT EBQT))-EPQT x EMQP] + EPQp+ EBQP, where: EMQ = Event Membership Quota 3

EMQP = T/PSO Event Membership Quota EQT = Total Quota for Event EPQT = Sum of T/PSO Event Performance Quotas EMQP = T/PSO % Event Membership Quota EBQP = T/PSO Event Base Quota EBQT = Sum of T/PSO Event Base Quotas EPQp= T/PSO Event Performance Quota Freestyle Canada will notify the T/PSOs of their Junior Championship quota no later than December 20, 2017 T/PSOs must notify the Freestyle Canada of unused quota spots no later 30 days prior to the first day of Official Training. PSOs requiring extra quota spots must make a formal written request to the Freestyle Canada Competitions Coordinator patrick@freestylecanada.ski no later than 30 days prior to the first day of Official Training. Freestyle Canada, will reallocate unused quota spots based the round-robin order. Once all unused spots are re-allocated, a revised quota list shall be sent to the Organizing Committee and to all PSOs no later than 21 days prior to the first day of Official Training. PSOs that receive re-allocated quota spots shall be responsible for payment of entry fees for these spots. Quota spots will not be reallocated after 21 days prior to the first day of Official Training. Unused quota spots after 21 days prior to the first day of Official Training will be available to the host T/PSO. The time-line for establishing quotas is: Publish Final Membership Report 30 days following end membership year FC Notifies PSOs of Quota Spots Dec 20 T/PSOs notify CFSA of unused quota spots 30 days before first day of Official Training T/PSOs request extra quota spots 30 days before first day of Official FC notifies T/PSOs of new quota spots based on reallocation procedure Training 21 days before the first day of Official Training There are no host quota spots at the Canadian Junior Championships. 4

Divisions (T/PSO s) are responsible for their own athlete selection criteria once they receive their Provincial quota. Divisions are strongly encouraged to fill spots from both genders and all relative age categories on an equal basis. 5
