They are also 4-4 in conference play, and they defeated UNM 68-57 the last time they met in Las Vegas. New Mexico took a 57-56 lead with 2:39 to play in that game before UNLV closed the game out on a 12-0 run. The Rebels have won five of the last seven games in the series, which includes three-straight wins in The Pit. The visitors from Las Vegas are adjusting to the loss of forward Alana Cesarz. The sophomore forward suffered a season-ending injury in late January. She had been averaging 15.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game before the injury. Since then standout guard Kelli Thompson has picked up some of the scoring slack. She now leads in the Mountain West in the category at 18.2 points per game. She s scored 50 points in UNLV s last two games, which included a 33-point, ten-rebound outing versus Boise State. new mexico game notes * New Mexico s game with UNLV on Saturday afternoon is the program s annual Play4Kay/Think Pink breast cancer awareness game. The Lobos will be donning special uniforms with plenty of activities at the game to raise money for both the Kay Yow Foundation and the UNM Cancer Center. * The Lobos will be out for revenge after UNLV defeated UNM 68-57 in Las Vegas in their conference opener. That match-up was closer than the final eleven point difference may indicate. The Cherry & Silver led 57-56 with 2:39 remaining in the game before UNLV went on a 12-0 run to end the game. * One difference in Saturday s meeting will be the absence of the Rebels Alana Cesarz. Cesarz had 16 points and five rebounds against the Lobos in January. She suffered a season-ending knee injury two weeks ago. * Antiesha Brown is coming off not only the best night of her career, but one of the better performances by a Lobo this season. Brown erupted for 26 points on an efficient 10-15 from the floors (5-7 from beyond the arc). She also grabbed six rebounds and tallied five steals in her 26 minutes of play. Her 26 points was the mosted scored by a Lobo since Caroline Durbin scored 27 points at Boise State on February 4, 2012. * UNM s five-point win at the Air Force Academy continues their trend of close conference battles in their Mountain West wins. Three of New Mexico s four conference wins have been decided by five points or less. In their four conference wins, their average margin of victory is 6.8 points per game. * Whitney Johnson joined Antiesha Brown in setting a career high in Colorado Springs Wednesday evening. Johnson recorded six assists, which doubled her previous career high. It also marked the first time this season that a post player or forward has led the team in assists. * In all four of their conference losses this season, the Lobos have allowed a 20-point scorer. That includes UNLV s Kelli Thompson who scored 21 points against UNM earlier this season. * While Coach Sanchez and company shot 61.9% from the game, Sara Halasz s work at the charity stripe was an outlier. She converted seven of her nine attempts (77.9%) from the line, which included three conversions in the final minute of the game. * How good of a night was it for Antiesha Brown? While it was only her eleventh game in a Lobo uniform, she set nine different career highs. * The last time these two teams met in The Pit, UNLV left Albuquerque with a 64-50 win. The Lobos were doomed thanks to a slow shooting start and 21 turnovers. UNM shot 29.6% from the field in the first half as they would trailed by nine points at halftime. * Caroline Durbin is coming off a ten-point outing and 27 points in her last two games. She will look to continue that against a UNLV defense she has seen success against. She s averaged 15 points per game on 15-30 (50.0%) shooting in her last three appearances against the Rebels. * New Mexico currently ranks eighth in the country in attendance. The Lobos are averaging 6,363 fans per home page in The Pit. They trail only Tennessee, UConn, Louisville, Iowa State, Notre Dame, Baylor and Purdue nationally.

She had one game of ten rebounds this season, which ties for the second most by a Lobo for the 2012-13 season. * Caroline Durbin was named to the 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-District Team on Thursday afternoon. Durbin repeats as an academic all-district performer from District 7. She was also a Capital One Academic All-American last season. The New Mexico guard is one of forty NCAA Division I women s basketball players to make the academic all-district team. The native of Austin, Texas holds a 4.18 grade point average as a Business major with a concentration in Accounting and Finance. The senior is also a mainstay on the Mountain West All-Academic Team and the Mountain West Scholar Athlete list. As an all-district team member, Durbin is now a finalist for this year s Capital One Academic All-American team. * Bryce Owens continues to be one of the top freshmen in the conference. She currently ranks in the top three among MWC freshmen in a number of categories. Owens is second in scoring, second in three-point field goal percentage, first in assists and first in steals among the conference s freshmen. * Sara Halasz continues her elevated play in conference games. She s shooting 51.0% from the field and 40.0% from beyond the arc. That s up from her non-conference numers that saw the junior shoot 36.4% from the field and 20.0% from beyond the arc. * Caroline Durbin has improved her already top-notch free throw shooting in Mountain West play this year. Durbin has only missed two of her 21 attempts and leads the conference with a 90.5% from the charity stripe in conference play. * New Mexico s three-point shooting has been mostly a two-lobo attack. Caroline Durbin and Bryce Owens are a combined 57-172 from beyond the arc. That combined mark represents 65.5% of the team s made three-pointers and 65.0% of the team s attempts. Antiesha Brown (9-24), Sara Halasz (6-25) and Deeva Vaughn (15-34) are the only other Lobos to make a three-pointer this year. * You know an arena is special when six letters is all one needs to identify it.
