Diversity Action Plan 2017-2021

About Us The British Judo Association (BJA) is the National Governing Body for the Olympic Sport of Judo in Great Britain. The Association represents Great Britain internationally and is a member of The International Judo Federation, The European Judo Union, The Judo Confederation of the European Union, The British Olympic Association, Sport and Recreation Alliance, Commonwealth Judo Association, and the Commonwealth Games Federation. It was established in 1948 and was incorporated as a company, limited by guarantee in 1978. It is recognised by UK Sport, Sport England, Sport Wales, Sport Northern Ireland, Sport Scotland, the British Olympic Association and the Sport and Recreation Alliance. The BJA is a membership organisation and has expanded its network of clubs, qualified coaches and individual members throughout Britain providing access to the sport in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. It is a public company whose principal activity is the promotion and supervision of judo activities. The Association s executive staff and commissions address delivery of the BJA s strategic objectives and other Our Vision and Mission

A Message from our Chair The Code for Sports Governance sets out the levels of governance, transparency, and accountability required from those who receive funding from Sport England and UK Sport from April 2017. It outlines new gold standards in governance, which include increasing diversity within the leadership of sporting organisations what the BJA fully support and endorse. In response to the Government s Sporting Future Strategy, British Judo are now working to tackle this issue. British Judo understand the need for specific diversity provisions, outlined in Requirements 2.1 to 2.3 of the Code. Implemented together with the broader Code Requirements, these will bring about significant change, creating more open and diverse Association. The Board have agreed to adopt a target of, and take all appropriate actions to encourage, a minimum of 30% of each gender on our Board. British Judo, working with Inclusive Boards have developed a Diversity Action Plan using the template designed by them. This Action Plan identifies some key actions that the Association will address to ensure that British Judo has a strong Equality and Diversity Policy and overall culture with the whole Membership and publicly endorses the position. The Association, along with the Annual Business Plan and Governance Action Plan, will continually review the progress on the Plan to work towards our vision of a World Leading Judo Nation that is inclusive, accessible and ethically driven. Ronnie Saez Chair British Judo Association

Who are the key people responsible for the delivery of this plan? The key people involved are: - Chairman - CEO - INED (HR) - Corporate Services Director (CSD) - Head of Marketing & Communications How will we measure overall success? - The Association will review the KPI s within the Action Plan. - They will also review the understanding and implementation as part of the Board evaluation and eventually down to Commissions and Areas. How does your Diversity Action Plan (DAP) cross-reference other parts of the code or other relevant equality or diversity monitoring standards/ framework? The DAP is a cornerstone to the Governance Code and is cross-referenced in our Governance Action Plan. The Association has also ensured regular review periods.
