Re: VMWorld Fun Run??? Jul 10, 2012 1:40 PM +1, as long as it's not $110 like the vegas 2011 run. I have shirts from 2009 & 2010, skipped 2011, and want a 2012 shirt now. ddunaway 3 posts since Jun 4, 2008 2. Re: VMWorld Fun Run??? Jul 11, 2012 6:46 AM I really enjoyed the 2010 run. I really hope they put one together this year. Kipling Morris 2 posts since Apr 19, 2011 3. Re: VMWorld Fun Run??? Jul 13, 2012 11:22 AM in response to: ddunaway Also +1 if not prohibitively expensive. Sep 10, 2007 4. Re: VMWorld Fun Run??? Jul 16, 2012 10:58 AM in response to: Kipling Morris I've hit all of them since 2009 (yes, even the Vegas one) and I heard from a reliable source that a 2012 Fun Run is in the works.the SF runs have, BY FAR, been the best ones. I'll post here whenever I get more information. -Doug Shane Williford 69 posts since Sep 17, 2008 5. Re: VMWorld Fun Run??? Jul 16, 2012 11:50 AM 1

I can concur Doug's statement. More to come as we hear something... Shane (@coolsport00) Markus Grau 3 posts since Mar 4, 2008 6. Re: VMWorld Fun Run??? Jul 17, 2012 4:22 PM in response to: Shane Williford I'd love to do the fun run again. Preferable crossing golden gate Cheers Markus TPhillips 14 posts since Sep 10, 2007 7. Re: VMWorld Fun Run??? Jul 19, 2012 5:51 PM I also skipped the Vegas run cause of the cost (it was more than the boston marathon registration!), but I'd really like to run again in SanFran! Michael Wright 2 posts since Mar 12, 2008 8. Re: VMWorld Fun Run??? Jul 23, 2012 9:03 PM +1 here too if it goes. I'd love to see another one across the bridge. I also skipped the Vegas one due to the prohibitive cost. Surely there must be some companies that want to sponsor this thing. I'd much rather see them sponsor this than more lame booze and food parties! ;) Forbes Guthrie 3 posts since May 15, 2008 9. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Jul 30, 2012 3:22 PM I'm in again. I was there 2009, 2010 but miss last year in Vegas. 2

How about something different this year, like dropped off in Sausalito and run back? Or a run around the Presidio or the Golden Gate Park? What are the best local runs? James Harter 8 posts since Jul 31, 2008 10. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Jul 31, 2012 6:32 AM in response to: Forbes Guthrie Since I am East Coast, I am up really early in the morning. I find the best local runs are down through the city to the water front, very peaceful and depending on the street not really busy at 5:30 AM. Greg Harms 1 posts since Jun 11, 2012 11. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Jul 31, 2012 8:15 AM in response to: James Harter I'd be interested in this too. I'm at least planning to participate in my hotel's running program to keep me moving and burn some of those empty calories I'm sure to accumulate that week. Sep 10, 2007 12. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Jul 31, 2012 9:34 AM in response to: James Harter I don't know how far people like to run, but I've done a few of the following: Start at Moscone and head up Mission to the Embarcadero then along the bay -- this is a nice route. If you follow that up to Broadway and back down Kearny, which turns into 3rd and runs by Moscone Center, you'll have a nice short loop -- 3 miles or so. If you take Embarcadero all the way to Fisherman's Wharf, that's about 3 miles -- you can turn around and come back along the bay to maximize "bay-time" To the Cannery (past the wharf, near the cable car turnaround) and back via Powell St. is roughly 5.25 miles. 3

These are just ideas... Luke Huckaba 5 posts since Jul 29, 2009 13. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Jul 31, 2012 11:25 AM in response to: DougBaer We should put together our own run, make some shirts that say "Run Here, Run Now" and get some sponsors Sep 10, 2007 14. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Jul 31, 2012 12:53 PM in response to: Luke Huckaba That's what the Fun Run shirts should say anyway, IMO! Paul Maney 1 posts since Apr 5, 2011 15. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Jul 31, 2012 9:44 PM in response to: DougBaer Do you remember when the Fun Run was organized the past few years Doug? It seems like its getting pretty late to announce a fun run. I hope it happens! Luke Huckaba 5 posts since Jul 29, 2009 16. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Aug 1, 2012 6:30 AM in response to: Paul Maney Craig Williams (iirc, VMware employee) ran it before (2009 & 2010 at least). I had emailed him previously, but the email bounced TPhillips 14 posts since Sep 10, 2007 17. Re: VMWorld Fun Run??? Aug 1, 2012 7:39 AM Duncan Epping (from http://www.yellow-bricks.com/ )was also involved in the past. Sep 10, 2007 18. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Aug 2, 2012 8:31 AM in response to: Paul Maney As the others here mentioned, Duncan Epping started the 2009 one, but Craig Williams handled the 2010 one, at least. (UPDATE: it looks like Craig works at Splunk now, which would explain the bounce) 4

John Troyer replied on Twitter that there was going to be one this year. If I recall correctly, the Las Vegas one didn't get publicized until a couple of weeks prior to the event last year. I guess we should just be patient. If all else fails, I'll be running a few mornings from near Moscone to the Cannery and back; I'd welcome company cromero 84 posts since Sep 11, 2008 19. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Aug 14, 2012 6:13 PM in response to: cromero Good grief! $110 dollars to register? Why so much this year? Last time we had a fun run in SanFran it was $20 and included a dri-fit t-shirt, shuttles, lots of snacks and beer at the finish! proof: http://www.active.com/running/san-francisco-ca/vmworld-fun-run-2010 Anyone know why the massive increase? 5

Enrico 27 posts since Sep 10, 2007 21. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Aug 15, 2012 2:23 AM in response to: TPhillips Hi, I have to agree - it's very expensive! Last year in Vegas it was also $110 - but the bus trip was like 45 min each way to red rock vally. As far as I remember, the last time in SF there was both a 5k and 10k run and it went over the bridge. I really appreciate the work the people behind the Fun Run does, but $110 for a 5K run is just too expensive for me. Cheers /Rico Luke Huckaba 5 posts since Jul 29, 2009 22. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Aug 15, 2012 6:49 AM in response to: Enrico As much as I'd want to run in the 5k to support Save The Bay, $110 is unreasonable for me. Thanks! Kipling Morris 2 posts since Apr 19, 2011 23. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Aug 15, 2012 6:54 AM in response to: Luke Huckaba 6

I just can't justify $110. I guess I'm out as well. James Harter 8 posts since Jul 31, 2008 24. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Aug 15, 2012 7:12 AM in response to: Kipling Morris Same for me, $110 is just to much for a 5K (I signed up for a 1/2 marathon for $85 in the fall). Unfortuanelty I cannot take part, I will be there in spirit though. TPhillips 14 posts since Sep 10, 2007 25. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Aug 15, 2012 7:43 AM in response to: James Harter Its only 5-6 miles from Moscone to where the race starts. Maybe I'll just run down and crash the $110 Fun Run. Taking a cab one way to the start would still be better than the steep signup fee. Sep 10, 2007 26. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Aug 15, 2012 8:12 AM in response to: TPhillips I'm also out. I paid the $100+ for the Vegas run, which was sparsely attended and a total disappointment, IMO. Anyone interested in "VMworld 2012 Fun Run Race Bandit" t-shirts and masks? TPhillips 14 posts since Sep 10, 2007 27. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Aug 15, 2012 8:46 AM in response to: DougBaer Ha! I'd buy a fun run bandit shirt! =D 7

Any artists up for designing something on CafePress? Markus Grau 3 posts since Mar 4, 2008 28. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Aug 15, 2012 12:14 PM in response to: TPhillips $110,.??? I'm paying 56.- ~$ 67 for a FULL MARATHON (Hamburg Marathon). So guess if I will pay $110.- for a 5k run?!? Nope! Yes, I'd support safe the bay, yes transportation is not for free and a shirt also does not come for free but $110.-??? Will we get free Champagne each kilometer??? Brian Oamek 6 posts since Jul 16, 2008 29. Re: VMworld Fun Run??? Aug 18, 2012 6:54 PM in response to: Markus Grau This is very dissapointing, I've done 2 of the fun run's in the past but $110 is ridiculous, so I'm out as well. ddunaway 3 posts since Jun 4, 2008 30. Re: VMWorld Fun Run??? Aug 20, 2012 7:54 AM I'm out as well. I paid this ridiculous price for the Vegas run last year and it was a letdown. I say we all go down there with our 2010 shirts on and run our own 5k. James Harter 8 posts since Jul 31, 2008 31. Re: VMWorld Fun Run??? Aug 20, 2012 8:20 AM in response to: ddunaway I feel the pain, I looked forward to the run this year thinking it was going to be less than Las Vegas. I understand fuel costs, but wow, that is a lot for a 5K and some water. Considering this is an open course and it is a "Fun" run you would think the cost for transportation and even shirts could have been off loaded by sponsors. I am sure EMC, HP, Dell or I don't know some of the hundreds of vendors at the Exhibit Hall would love to have their names plastered on a hundred or so runners shirts. That is what sponsor ship is all about, but oh well. I still have people ask about my Virtual Run shirt at my runners club. It is cheap 8

marketing in the long run. Keep your customer base happy and they will tell others, make them upset and they will tell everyone. I will try and get a couple runs in while I am in town. Brian Oamek 6 posts since Jul 16, 2008 32. Re: VMWorld Fun Run??? Aug 20, 2012 8:27 AM in response to: James Harter Is anyone from VMware reading this? Who is coordinating the run? I did not see any contact information on the registration form. It might be to late for them to fix this... but I'd wager the attendance would go up by at least 200% if they could line up a sponsor (cough VMware, cough EMC) to make the cost reasonable! Sep 10, 2007 33. Re: VMWorld Fun Run??? Aug 20, 2012 9:16 AM in response to: Brian Oamek Who would be interested in meeting on Tuesday morning around 5:30 AM to run across the bridge? I'm thinking we'd need to get back for the keynote by 7:30 or so to get cleaned up. I've got my VMworld 2009 Fun Run shirt and I'm seriously thinking that will be my morning/ time to run across the bridge, even if I have to take a cab out there. Aug 20, 2012 9:27 PM in response to: cromero Yeah, more than any marathon or half-marathon I've ever paid for even with transportation. Somebody is out of touch with how the recreational running ecosystem works. Surely a bunch of tech companies have deeper pockets to sponsor these kind of things than water and shoe companies! I'd like to know which ones would refuse to sponsor an event like this. 10
