Special thanks goes to friends of the Lions who helped and/or contributed; Mary Cook, Jean Leiner, Louise Mc Grath, and Pat Hurld We made $235. Lion Annette Sunshine: Lions, Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Merritton Lion Ted Collins. Lion Ted passed away on Friday. I will remember Lion Ted for his out going personality and his commitment to his club. He was a friend to our club through his participation in the Special Kids Picnic and his attendance at the spaghetti dinner. A special thank you to Lions Anne, Kelly, Annette, Henry, Dave, Fred, Brooks, Mark, Tom R, Tom W, Paul K, Paul B, Donna, Shelia, Bob, Head Cook Dan and his assistant Tony Dragonette. We served close to 300 dinners and owe a special gratitude to the staff at the Radisson Hotel. The spaghetti dinner was a huge success and could not be done with out the help of all our local business partners on the raffle and members baking for the bake sale. Lion President Dick The Lions lost Ted Collins, a very loved and active member of our sister club of Merritton Ontario. Our deepest condolences to the Family of Lion Ted and to the Merrittons Lions. Rumor has it that Diana Witkowski had an accident while impersonating a furniture mover. She is recovering well. Lion Tom has passed as a nurse and chief cook and bottle washer.

PAGE 2 The Grand Island Lion May 2017 Above, Our Lions held a Joint dinner meeting with our Merritton Ontario Sister Club at the Radisson Inn on Wednesday April 26th. A good time was had by all. On the left, are Lions Brooks Rimes and Dick Crawford selling Kids Day Newspapers on a damp rainy morning. I'm so grateful for the troopers who endured the rain and cold on Kids Day. Lions Dave, Brooks, Kelly, Tom W and Dick. It was nasty but we got the job done. Thank you all Lion Anne

PAGE 3 The Grand Island Lion May 2017 Pictures from our Spaghetti Dinner held on April 24th 2017 at the Radisson Inn Our 48th annual Spaghetti Dinner was a success grossing $4,543.50 to date - $163 and change over last year. More good news is that we can anticipate more, since the placement ad income has not been received yet. Lion Treasurer Tom Witkowski

PAGE 4 The Grand Island Lion May 2017 Print this page and bring this coupon to Dick and Jenny s I'd like to thank the basket committee, Brooks, Shelia and Kelly for an outstanding job soliciting donations. Also all of our members who made baskets. It was our most successful yet! Lion Anne Recent thank you letters from the MDA, Freedom Guide Dogs, and Eyes On America. Where there's a need, there's a Lion! We make a difference, every day, everywhere! Lion Tom W.

PAGE 5 The Grand Island Lion May 2017 Lions, we have had some members attend our regular meetings without having dinner. In these times when there is so much going on, dinner may not fit into your schedule. Our Lions Club wants all members to be aware that dinner is optional. And if you did not sign up for dinner and decide to come to a meeting, no advance notice is required. Hope to see you there! Lion Dave At our April 26 meeting with the Merritton pride, two tickets to the 37th annual Jamboree benefiting Children's Hospital were received. How they will be given away remains to be decided upon. The Jamboree will be held Sunday, June 4th, at the John J. Welch American Legion Post #381 from 1pm until 9pm. Tokyo Joe promises a great time for all attendees. Our Split Club is now at $187.00. Lions Donna Lavallee and Gary Tucker were not present to try to chose the ace of hearts. Our prospective Lion member Cindy Sharpe then picked Lion President Dick. He picked the eight of clubs. Lion Tom Witkowski 716-909-1862 The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched they must felt with the heart. Helen Keller Submitted by Lion Brooks Thomas Butler Fred Ruocco Punny Thoughts: Ants are healthy because they have little antibodies. Hold the door open for a clown. It's a nice jester. Ban shredded cheese. Make America grate again! If attacked by a mob of clowns, Go for the juggler! The past, present, and future walk into a bar. It was tense. Lion Dave Thanks to Lions Dick Crawford, Annette Boies-Lobl, Tom Witkowski, Anne Fahning, Glenn Connel, Tom Rusert, Kelly McGarvey and Donna Lavallee for contributions to this newsletter. The deadline for the June Newsletter is Saturday May 27th. If you have material for the newsletter, you can e-mail it to Lion Dave Chervinsky, the editor/ publisher, at: grandislandliodave@gmail.com. Visit us at: www.gilions.com. Lions: we are still collecting food items for the Neighbors Foundation and used cell phones for the Sheriffs program to help domestic violence victims. Also Bottle Junction is now giving $.06 per item. No need to wait as they will count and credit to our Lions account if we so designate! Lion Tom R
