Course Description The entrance of the school parking lot will be the beginning of the neutral start. Towards the end of the neutral start, a left turn will take the racers onto Central Turnpike where they will be greeted with a constant-gradient hill. At the top of the hill the racing will go live. A few steplike hills will change to flatter, more rural roads after the right hand turn onto Uxbridge Road. Some roads on the course have no yellow lines present. On these roads racers are still required to abide by the yellow line rule as they are on the remainder of the course. After the 2.5 mile descent, racers will turn right onto Barnett Road and right again on Whitins Road for mostly flat to rolling terrain. Enjoy Manchaug Road as it gives the racers a reprieve before the demanding 1km climb up Lackey Road to the straight false-flat of the finish. On laps leading up to the finish, riders will roll across the finish line to finish the lap, continue up Putnam Hill Road and turn right onto Central Turnpike to begin the next loop. Staging Each field will have their staging take place in the driveway to the parking lot of the Simonian Center for Early Learning. Riders should be prepared and at the staging area at which point the USA Cycling officials will brief the individual categories on the rules and logistics of the race. Neutral Start The pace vehicle will lead each racing category from staging to the race loop under a 2-mile neutral start. The neutral start will exit staging right onto Boston Road, then right onto Putnam Hill Road before making a final left-hand turn onto Central Turnpike. Live racing will begin at the top of the first hill on Central Turnpike, and will be signified by signage, at which point the pace car will accelerate away. Yellow Line Rule Per the discretion of the USA Cycling officials, a yellow-line rule will be in effect for the neutral start and race course. There are several roads lacking a center line. The promoters will make every effort to prevent oncoming traffic in these sections. However, please be aware that some vehicles pulling out of residences onto the course may travel against the race direction. Therefore, all competitors must abide by the yellow line rule, staying to the right when a centerline is not present. Motorefs will be present in some fields to enforce the yellow line rule. Dropped Racers Any racer that is dropped from the rolling enclosure should stay to the right hand side of the road when possible. Marshals will be present to direct racers on course. Racers outside of the rolling enclosure must abide by the rules of the road. Finish Line Location The finish line is located on Putnam Hill Road adjacent to the golf course. There is no parking available at the finish line area (see Feed Zone below). A 200m sign will signify the availability of both lanes of the road for the racers to use (subject to change at the discretion of the USAC officials). After crossing the finish line all riders (except for juniors, see below) should continue straight, following the signs to return to the parking/registration area. Do not ride backwards on the course and do not cross the finish line again after your race has been completed. No cooling down on the race course will be permitted.
Feed Zone The feed zone may be utilized for fields completing at least 5 laps. Feed zone location will be on Central Turnpike immediately after the right turn off of Putnam Hill Road. The feed zone will span the length of the Central Turnpike entrance of the abandoned Blue Jay Restaurant. Feeds and bottle drop off may only take place within the marked area of the feed zone. Please respect the townspeople and their property, so do not litter! Refer to USA Cycling Rulebook items 3B9 and 3D6 for more details. Failure to abide by these rules may result in relegation or disqualification at the USAC officials discretion. Feed zone parking will be at the corner of Central Turnpike and Putnam Hill Road at the vacant lot of the Blue Jay Restaurant. Please remove any items your team may have discarded in or around the feed zone. Sutton, MA is a beautiful town; please help keep it as such. Junior Roll Out Junior roll-out will take place immediately following their race. Officials will inform juniors as to the specific roll-out location during staging/pre-race instructions. The location for junior rollout will be immediately after the finish line on Putnam Hill Road. Please be cautious as you make your way back to the finish area as other races may still be occurring. We suggest that you pull off to the right side of the road, gradually, and walk your bike back down towards the finish area and alert a USA Cycling official to execute the roll-out. It is imperative that you return to the roll-out location immediately after your race as to avoid being disqualified if you do not do so. Number Placement Two number tags will be used. One should be pinned on the back of the jersey and the other on the right side of the jersey. Do not crumple, fold, overlap, or cut numbers. USA Cycling officials reserve the right to disqualify or not score and place racers with number tags improperly placed or altered. Results/payout Results and awards will be posted/distributed, respectively, at registration following each race. Please give the race staff ample time to retrieve results from the finish line to bring back to the school to post on the lobby doors. A brief awards ceremony will be conducted to celebrate the category winners and the state champions. Medals will be given to the top 3 finishers in the state championship fields. Those fields are as follows: Men s Pro/1/2 Women s Pro/1/2 Men s U23 Women s U23 Men s Masters 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49 Women Masters 30-34 Medical Services Central Massachusetts Public Safety Association will be providing basic first aid to riders requesting it. CMPSA is also the emergency services liaison. In the event of an emergency, CMPSA will contact police, fire or EMS, via radio, to manage any on-course situation. CMPSA will be in constant contact with the USA Cycling officials.
