NEWSLETTER March 2015 Dear Valued Members, The winter is almost over, and spring is quickly approaching - although it might not feel that way lately! However, the course is green and thanks to the heavy winds and rain, our views are pretty dramatic! Our Grounds staff are implementing new maintenance programs to improve the condition of your course even more so, and we believe that the results will be very pleasing. Last month, we attended the National PGA Show in Orlando, where we had the opportunity to view all the 2015 golf trends, apparel, equipment and products. In the upcoming weeks we will receive the latest in mens', ladies' and children's apparel, including Taylor Made's Adidas sporty ensembles. If you have questions about any of the new merchandise, please call the Pro Shop at 298-6970, and our staff would be happy to help you in any way. We are pleased to announce that Jack Bridges has been promoted to Golf Professional, and Daniel Augustus now has the challenge of the Assistant Professional. They have been eagerly working to prepare golf clinics for both adults and children, and will be facilitating the Club tournaments. So look out for upcoming member emails, or check the website for further Club updates. The Events Calendar on the website is continuously being updated, and you will see new things added to it over the course of the year. Please have a glance on our website and start planning to attend the functions offered. The Easter Weekend is always a hit, especially with our littlest members! The Rosebuds staff will be on hand to help with the activities and games on Good Friday and the Saturday. You may recall that, as stated in previous newsletters, the Club will be issuing new membership cards to every active member. It is our hope to have this process completed prior to the Memorial Day weekend. As a reminder, each member over the age of 12 will be required to carry and present this card at any point-of-sale in order to have the pertinent member discount applied to their account. Checks settled by a credit card will not receive the member's pertinent discount. Unfortunately, we're experiencing a minor delay due to shipping of a certain piece of equipment required to begin the process. Stand-by to hear from Callan about our progress. Whether it be for a round of golf, a game of tennis, or one of our upcoming member events; as the skies begin to clear and the weather warms-up, we look forward to seeing more of you around the Club! IN REVIEW MAINTENANCE MONTHLY As I sit at my desk to write this letter, the sun is out and it truly feels like spring is in the air. Although the rain and cold weather will be back before you know it (this is Bermuda weather after all) it s nice to get a glimpse of what s to come in the upcoming months. This has been another wet and cold winter, and the greens are holding on quite well for this time of year. This is due to the hard work that is done in the summertime to alleviate compaction and increase water percolation through our aerification program. Without this process, the greens would not make it through these tough winter months. Aerification is an integral part preventative maintenance program. Lacan Berkley, Bryce Place, Carlton Richardson and Stacey Simpson working on our Spring Cleanup project Aerification is a mechanical process that creates more air space in the soil and promotes deeper rooting, thus helping the grass plants stay healthy. In most cases, it is done by removing ½ -inch cores from the compacted soil, allowing for an infusion of air and water that brings a resurgence of growth. The spaces are then filled with sand topdressing that helps the soil retain air space and it makes it easier for roots to grow downward. Because of our major compaction issue s that we have here at TPC, we use tines that go 8 inches deep twice a year in order to ensure the health of our greens. I know what your thinking, why are we talking about the dreaded aerification process this early in the year? I thought it would be a good time to explain the process because we have firmed up our dates for this years major aerifications, which will be on June 15th-16 th and August 17th-18 th. We will also do two other aerifications that will have little impact on daily play which will happen on July 13 th and September 21 st. We have started a Spring Cleanup project that consists of going hole by hole to amalgamate the playing conditions with overall appearance. We have a lot of trees and debris on the outskirts of our rough areas and we intend on cleaning up these areas to finalize the holes. This will be an ongoing project that will make a big difference on the appearance of the course. As always, please fill divots and be mindful of cart path only days, as we all play a part in the overall success of our great course. Please feel free to contact me at anytime with feedback or questions. Hit them long and putt them straight and a big thank you from the Stables for being such a great membership. See you out there soon! Sean Adams Assistant Superintendent 595-0433 Sean.adams@rosewoodhotels.com
