Which HeartStart is Right for You? Increasing the Chance of Survival Each year sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) strikes approximately 30,000 people in Australia alone 1. Many of these people have no warning, since they show no prior symptoms. And, sadly, fewer than 5% survive, often because the Ambulance Service cannot reach them in time. A shock from a defibrillator - defibrillation therapy - is needed to restore the heart s normal pumping rhythm. A victim s best chance of surviving SCA is to receive that shock within 5 minutes of collapse. Laerdal offers a full range of defibrillators - from easyto-use automated external defibrillators (AED s) used in the office and community to sophisticated multifunction monitor/defibrillators used by healthcare professionals - each tailored to the needs, training and skill of a particular type of user from home to hospital. And we support our defibrillators and their owners with services, accessories and programs so that the best possible treatment for cardiac arrest is available, and more lives can be saved. Whatever your situation there is a HeartStart defibrillator to suit you. Reference: 1. Estimate as provided by Australian Resuscitation Council. 4
