MOUNTAINN WEST CONFERENCE OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS Jack Christiansen Memorial Track / Colorado State University Fort Collins, CO May 11 14, 20111 TEAM PACKETS Team packets will be available from MWC staff in the Media Trailer beginning Wednesday, May 11 th after 10:00am. Packets will include the following: Startlists Competitor numbers and safety pins Credentials for your Official Travel Squad DRIVING DIRECTIONS (Jack Christiansen Memorial Track) Located on the Southeast side of Colorado State University Campus on Collegee Avenue, the Jack Christiansen Memorial Track can be easily accessed by exiting off I 25, at Exit 268 Prospect Avenue. Head west on Prospect Avenue about 4.4 miles. At the intersection of Prospect and College Avenue, turn right onto College Avenue. At the first light, turn left ontoo Pitkin Street. The track will be on your right, and parking on the left. TEAM DROP OFF AND TRACK ENTRANCE Team vehicles can drop athletes off at the north west entrance too the Jack Christiansen Memorial Track. PARKING Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday Team parking will be located south of the track in Lot 575, on the south side of Pitkin Street. Saturday Many lots are free on Saturdays. Read signs att entrances to avoid parking tickets. Avoid pay to park spaces. There will be limited team vehicle parkingg in Lot 440 on the North side of the track. There will be no need for a Team Parking Pass. ACCESS (to Jack Christiansen Memorial Track) There is only one entrance to the Jack Christiansen Memorial Track, on the Northwest corner of the facility. There will no longer be an entrance on the South end of the track. Admission is free on Wednesday and Thursday. Members of the Official Travel Party can use credentials too enter the facility through the Entrance on the Northwest corner of the track. Spectators and non credentialedd guests in your travel party must enter the Track Stadium through the Entrance on the Northwest corner of the track. Ticket prices for Friday and Saturday are $5 per day for adults and $3 per day for students and children. An All Session pass will be available at $8 for adults and $5 for students and children.

Towels are not provided. Portable restrooms are available at the Jack Christiansen Memorial Track, and are located on the West side of the facility, behind the spectator bleachers. SPORT MEDICINE TRAINING ROOM & TENT Training room will open 2 hours before competition begins and remain open until 1 hour after competition. CSU Athletic Trainers will be located in the Sports Medicine Tent located on the South side of the track facility. All modalities will be available at this location. Post race ice tubs will be provided. Sufficient training tables will be provided at this location. PLEASE DO NOT SET UP YOUR OWN TABLES AT THIS LOCATION as we do not want this area to be over crowded. If you have additional sports medicine or massage tables, please set these up in your Team Camp location. Further information will be provided in a separate document from the training room staff. TEAM TENTS 10 x10 Team Tents will be provided for each institution along the north end of the track in the designated Team Camps area. Only one tent, canopy, etc. per team will be allowed in the Team Camp area. Tents, canopies, etc. in the Team Camp area may be no bigger than 20 x20. If you choose to use a tent other than the 10 x10 provided, you must let Brian Bedard of Colorado State know ahead of time so that we can cancel our tent rental for your team (brian.bedard@colostate.edu ). ATHLETE HOSPITALITY Athlete hospitality with light snacks will be located on the South side of the track beside the training room tent. COACHES HOSPITALITY Coaches hospitality will be located on the South side of the track beside the training room tent. It will begin at Noon on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. COACHES SEATING & ACCESS Coaches may access Home Stretch (West) stands for viewing of meet. All coaches must stay on the outside of the track in the grass area. There will be no coaches boxes.
GROUND RULES: FIELD OF PLAY The Field of Play is defined as the area of the track and the entire infield. The Field of Play does not include the West seating areas or the North Team Tent areas outside of the fence. No electronic devices (cameras, headphones, i Pods, etc.) are allowed in the Field of Play Athletic tape and/or chalk are the only suitable substance for marking runways WARM UP AREAS Field Events: Athletes in the throws and horizontal jumps may warm up at their respective event site 30 minutes before the start of the event. Athletes in the vertical jumps may warm up at their respective event site 60 minutes before the start of the event. All other warm ups are to take place at: Adjacent warm up field to the north of the track beyond the north parking lot, or in the indoor track also located north of the outdoor track. Hurdles and blocks will be available at the indoor facility. Track warm up will be restricted to the Back Stretch (east) side of the track and must be cleared completely when running events are in progress. ATHLETES ARE PERMITTED INSIDE THE INDOOR TRACK FACILITY IN CASE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER INCLUDING LIGHTNING DELAY. CHECK IN Track Events Athletes should check in and pick up hip numbers at the Clerk s Tent located on the Northwest corner outside of the track. Track athletes should do this no later than 30 minutes prior to their event. Track athletes should report to and remain in the area of the Start Line of their event no later than 10 minutes prior to the start of their event. FIELD EVENTS Athletes should check in at the event site with the Head Event Judge at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the event or when preceding event is completed. ATHLETE FLOW IN TRACK EVENTS Check in at Clerk s Tent located at Northwest corner of the track no later than 30 minutes prior to start of race; Report to Clerk of Course at Start Line of event no later than 10 minutes prior to start of race; Run race. Top 8 report to awards stand. Return to start line of your event to retrieve sweats, etc. from start line bins. COMPETITOR NUMBERS Competitor bib numbers should be worn on the front, except pole vaulters, who may wear them on the back. Numbers cannot be altered in any way, shape, or form. Numbers will be provided in the team packets on Wednesday. Competitors in the heptathlon and decathlon do not need to wear bib numbers on Wednesday and Thursday. UMBRELLAS Umbrellas will be allowed on the infield.
ALLOWABLE SPIKES ¼ or less, and shape (pyramid, pin, Christmas tree) 3/8 spikes will be allowed in the High Jump and Javelin only IMPLEMENT WEIGH INS Weigh ins will take place at the weigh in tent just north of the Timing Booth. Implements for the multi events on Wednesday and Thursday can be weighed in 60 minutes prior to the start of events. Implements for throwing events on Friday and Saturday may be weighed in beginning 2 hours prior to the start of each throwing event, and will close for an event 40 minutes before the start of the event. Implements will be impounded. Implements may be checked in on days preceding the competition, but will be impounded. HIGH JUMP AND POLE VAULT STARTING HEIGHTS, BAR RAISE PROGRESSIONS Guidelines for starting heights in the vertical jumps are dictated by MWC guidelines in the Championship Handbook, i.e., 30 cm below the 8 th best seed mark in the Pole Vault on the season ending MWC descending order list, and 10 cm below the 8 th best seed mark in the High Jump on the season ending MWC descending order list. Bar raise progressions will include projected NCAA qualifying marks. This information will be determined by the Games Committee. SAFETY ISSUES The high jump and pole vault can be conducted in the Glenn Morris Fieldhouse if inclement weather creates a safety issue. ADVANCEMENT PROCEDURES Track Events 100m Dash, 200m Dash, 400m Dash, 100m/110m/400m Hurdles heat winners + next fastest advance to 8 person final; 800m Run top 2 in each heat + next fastest advance to 9 person final. Final run in 4 box alleys with 2 competitors in each alley, except the 1 st alley which shall have 3; 1500m Run top 4 in each heat + next fastest advance to 12 person final. Final run from waterfall start. NOTE: if 15 or fewer declare, the event will be run as a final only. Ties for the last qualifying position will be broken by reading times to the nearest thousandth, or in the case of the 800m and 1500m runs, ties will all advance to final. Field Events In the horizontal jumps and throws, the 9 competitors with the best marks after 3 preliminary jumps or throws will advance to the finals for 3 additional efforts. Ties for the last qualifying position will all advance without breaking the tie. RELAYS The women s 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays will be run with the 6 fastest in the 2 nd heat, the other 3 in the 1 st. 4x400 meter relays will not be run until completion and scoring of all field events is completed.
PREFERRED LANES The Colorado State University Track has 8 42 lanes, and a 118 radius. According to the Mountain West Conference Championship Manual, the preferred lanes will be: 4 5 3 6 7 2 8 1. AWARDS Event awards will be presented shortly after the conclusion of each track and field event final on Friday and Saturday. Awards for the Heptathlon and Decathlon will be presented on Friday after the women s steeplechase (~1:40pm). The awards platform will be set up on the infield of the track in front of the main stands. The top eight finishers will be recognized at each medal ceremony. Medals will be given to the top three finishers in each individual and relay event. Track event athletes in the top 8 places are asked to report directly from the finish line to the Awards Area immediately following their races. Field event athletes should report to Awards area as soon as PA announcer makes the call to report. Awards ceremony for Team Champions, Coach of the Year, High Point Award and Outstanding Performance will take place at Awards Area after last event. RESULTS Results will be posted within minutes of the conclusion of each event on the bulletin board / shed on the North side of the Timers Booth. Results for coaches will be placed in baskets for each institution in the Media trailer. Complete results and Heat Sheets will be placed in each team s basket at the conclusion of each day s competition. Live results will be available during the meet and available at both the MWC website (www.themwc.com). Results can also be found at the Colorado State University Athletic Department Website (www.csurams.com).
