Coach Education Newsletter July Football Federation Tasmania Coaching Conference (25 points) Football Federation Victoria Coaching Conference (25 points) Football West Coaching Conference (25 points) Northern Football Coaching Conference (25 points) Important information about your Advanced Licence Since a new policy has been launched, FFA will extend the expiry date of all Advanced Licences to 2013. If your licence expires after 2013, your expiry will remain the same. Please note that you don't need to do anything or submit a form, this will happen automatically. FFA Coach Education is in the process of sending out updated Coach ID Cards. You may not receive your new card until July/August. The delay has been caused by several factors out of our control. Please make sure your postal address is correct in the National Coaches System. Frequently Asked Questions Do we get points for coaching? No points are given for coaching. The structure of the Policy puts the emphasis on coaches to update the theoretical and practical content of Advanced Pathway courses. To be actively coaching does not necessarily lead to updating and refreshing of Advanced Course content. FFA has adapted a European style model for Licence re-accreditation. Do my points from 2007 and 2008 count towards my points tally for the next 4 years? No, these points do not count. Do my points from 2009 count towards my points tally? Only the events listed in the link below count towards points. http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/site/_content/document/00001486-source.pdf What if I need proof of my new expiry date to show a club/organisation? Contact your State Football Federation who will provide a letter to confirm your accreditation details. When are the next Coaching Conferences and Seminars? FFA and the State Football Federations will run a Coaching Conference every year. Dates will be publicised on our website and in newsletters as soon as they re confirmed. Seminars will also be publicised when the dates and venues are confirmed. *Compulsory* National Football Curriculum Update Course In 2009, FFA published the National Football Curriculum (NFC) which is the guiding document for all football in Australia. The NFC outlines a philosophy and a clear direction for the future in terms of player development and coach education. Click here to view the National Football Curriculum http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/site/_content/document/00001254- source.pdf Since late 2009, this philosophy and direction has been progressively incorporated into all of FFA s Coach Education programs. 8

Coach Education Newsletter July In order to achieve a consistent national approach to coaching, it is important that coaches who attended earlier courses are also aware of the implications of the National Football Curriculum. Therefore, the following Update Policy is being implemented: All holders of Advanced Pathway accreditation gained by conversion of old Senior Licence, State Licence and National Licence accreditation will need to attend an FFA Update Course by the time their current period of accreditation expires. If not, their accreditation will revert to C Licence level (in the case of existing s) or to Senior Licence level on the Community Pathway (in the case of existing B and C Licences) Therefore, if you have not actually passed an FFA C Licence, or course you will need to attend an FFA Update Course to maintain your current level of accreditation. Those who attended the following courses will also need to attend the Update Course, as they did not include National Football Curriculum content: C Licence courses 2007, 2008 and 2009 courses 2007, 2008 and 2009 courses 2007, 2008, 2009 and Part 2, April The only coaches who do not need to attend a Conversion Course by December 31, are all Pro Diploma holders, and those who attended or will attend the following courses: FFA C Licence (and onwards) FFA (and onwards) FFA Part 1, (and all s onwards) FFA Pro Diploma 2009/10 (and onwards) These courses incorporated, or will incorporate, the relevant National Football Curriculum content. (Note, those coaches who have attended an FFA A, B or C Licence course from 2007 onwards will be able to attend the Update Course free of charge) The Update Courses will be offered at various locations around the country and it is open to all A, B and C Licence holders. The course covers the National Football Curriculum and FFA s new direction in Football Development, highlighting the key aspects of the Building Blocks, Game Training, and an introduction to Football Conditioning. An Update Course is conducted over two full days and is conducted by FFA s Advanced Pathway Instructors. Frequently Asked Questions How much will the Update Courses cost and when do they start? This information is not yet available and will be publicised when confirmed. What if I have 100 points but can t get to the Update Course, is there another option for doing the course? In order to be re-accredited for another 4 years coaches must gain 100 points, plus attend the Update Course. There are no other options for completing the Update Course. 9

Coach Education Newsletter July Goalkeeping Accreditation Re-structure In conjunction with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Football Federation Australia (FFA) Coach Education has decided to introduce a new system of Advanced Goalkeeping accreditation. The new standards required by the AFC, and supported by FFA, are far more rigorous and challenging than previous courses; the end result will be a much higher standard of professional Goalkeeper coaching in Australia. Starting in late, FFA will conduct AFC Goalkeeping Courses in. There are three levels of accreditation, progressing from Level 1 to Level 3. AFC Level 1 Goalkeeping Course (6 Days) commencing 15 th to 21 st August, AFC Level 2 Goalkeeping Course (7 Days) commencing 27 th November to 3 rd December, AFC Level 3 Goalkeeping Course (7 Days) commencing 27 th June to 3 rd July, The following transition process will be implemented: All current Goalkeeping accreditation on the Advanced Pathway will be changed to the highest accreditation on the Community Pathway (Community Goalkeeping Diploma). Coaches who wish to gain Advanced Pathway Goalkeeping Accreditation must now start with the AFC Level 1 Goalkeeping Course on the new Advanced Pathway. Some coaches have gained Advanced Pathway Goalkeeping accreditation through AFC recognition of FA/UEFA Goalkeeping accreditation. An entirely new system for educating Australia s elite Goalkeeping coaches will commence this year. Minimum accreditation requirements will be introduced for Goalkeeper coaches in all FFA-controlled teams and competitions as follows: AFC Level 1 GK Licence by Jan 1, AFC Level 2 GK Licence by Jan 1, 2013 For the highest levels, the AFC Level 3 GK Licence will be required by Jan 1, 2014 Please note: A current AFC C Licence is a pre-requisite to attend any of these Advanced Goalkeeping courses Our mission at FFA is to make Australia a world leader in the world game. We are striving to do that one step at a time; by making the difficult decisions we have made concerning Goalkeeping accreditation, it is our intention to ensure that our Goalkeeping coaches, and therefore our top Goalkeepers are among the best in the world. 10
