We have our annual Tailgate party to help us kick off the football season. We hold this event on our back patio with live music as well as a high school drum line and, of course, some grilled hamburgers and hot dogs. This is a great day to support your favorite team by wearing their team jersey or t-shirt. Our annual Halloween carnival will take place at the end of the month, so be ready for all the kids to come play games. You are welcome to assist with leading a game for Crystal or passing out candy around the staircase. Our theme for the month is Spice it up so be on the lookout for programs that will incorporate some spice! -Kassie Sibert Exceptional Senior Living

Roaring 20s Party Associate of the Quarter Deann Rodriguez Deann Rodriguez, Lifestyle Assistant, received Associate of the Quarter! Deann worked in the Lifestyles Department from March-August 2018 and made a huge impact on all the residents. She went above and beyond every minute she was at work. Her first week of work our culinary department was short on staff and I called her to come help us serve in the dining room. Her response was that she was already in there helping. She had gone to the kitchen to turn in a lunch delivery and saw that they needed help and just jumped in. She was still new and didn t know many residents by their names, but that did not stop her from wanting to help! That is the kind of person Deann is and was the whole time she was the Lifestyle Assistant. She is creative and was always coming up with fun crafts. Although she is not our Lifestyle Assistant anymore, she still plans to come back and volunteer especially for Bunco nights! You will even see her and her family at our Annual Halloween Carnival. Connie Mack & Ida Seymore Connie Mack Seymore and Ida Mae have lived at Lyndale now for 8 months. Connie Mack was born and raised in Merkle, Texas, and Ida was born in Lampasas. Connie Mack comes from a large family, being 1 of 8 children. He was one of the oldest. Ida was the second child with one older brother, one younger brother and one younger sister. Connie Mack went to Cisco Junior College until he was drafted and deployed to Germany. They met at Pioneer Methodist where Connie Mack was a song leader. Ida was currently enrolled in school at Texas Tech University. After many trips to see her, Connie Mack said that his gas was starting to get very expensive and convinced her to transfer to McMurry University to finish her teaching degree. Their first date was an all-day event going to lunch first then to the Paramount where the story of Ruth was showing. They dated for about a year before tying the knot on June 8, 1962, at Pioneer Methodist Church. Ida taught for 33 years at Merkle ISD. Connie Mack was a lineman for Taylor Electric for many years before he was an insurance agent for Farmers Union Insurance Agency before retiring. They have 2 children: Stacy a school teacher and Ted an eye doctor. They also have 4 grand kids whom they adore. They have been married for 56 years this past summer. Connie Mack always wanted Ida to see the beautiful country of Germany so finally she was able to go on her first plane ride for a school trip to see the country that he loved. They have always lived by the Golden Rule of always being good to others. Watermelon & Ice Cream Socials

INGREDIENTS 12 apples (Granny smith, gala, Red delicious) 1 orange, cut into quarters 1/2 cup brown sugar 2 cinnamon sticks (extra for garnishing) 1 tsp nutmeg 1/2 tsp cloves 1/2 tsp whole allspice 12 anise stars INSTRUCTIONS Wash and dry apples. Trace a center around the edge of the apples and use a spoon to scoop out the insides. Set aside the 'apple cups'. You can sprinkle lemon juice or cover with water to prevent browning. Bring the apple pulp, orange quarters, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, cloves, and whole allspice to a boil. Stir occasionally and allow to simmer for 2 hours. Use a potato masher or fork, mash the apples and oranges until soft. Strain. Pour in apple cups. Garnish with anise stars and cinnamon sticks which double as a stirring sticks. Serve warm or chilled.
