Tingira Big Boat Sailing Events Planned for 2018 This year we plan to have a series of four sailing events for big boats culminating in the Calvert Memorial Sailing Event. The course for the proposed sailing events will be similiar to that used for the Calvert Memorial Sailing Event held in October. Each event will have seperate awards but we intend having an overall series winner using the best three results out of the four. That way, participating crews are encouraged to sail the entire series but are able to miss sailing in one of the events or drop their lest favourable result. The Calvert Memorial Sailing Event will still be sailed as a seperate event but the result also included in the overall series. Awards for the events will be presented at the The Calvert Memorial Dinner. Owner / skippers of yachts interested in taking part should put the dates below in their diaries. Further information regarding the course details and start times will be published in the near future. Proposed Tingira Big Boat Series Dates Event 1 Event 2 Sunday 25 March (Start time 11:00am TBC) Saturday 05 May (Start time 11:00am TBC) Event 3 Saturday 01 September (Start time 11:00am TBC) Event 4 (Calvert Memorial Sailing Event) Saturday 14 October (Start time 11:00am)! 3 Tingira boat club newsletter 91 coast road macleay island qld 4184
Great Response to Working Bee An unscheduled working bee was called on Saturday 30 December to reposition and stabilise a section of the recently laid Geofabric matting that had been placed out from the Tingira beach to assist with the launching/retrieval of off-the-beach boats at lower tides. The work needed to be done at low tide which occurred just after lunch on Saturday. Despite the very short notice approximately thirty volunteers turned up to assist. Most of the volunteers had no problem with getting their hands dirty (and their feet, legs, knees, arms and other body bits) with Moreton Bay mud. 3 million cheers for all those that came to help (and get muddy). And the good news is that the mat has remained in place. Tingira Boat Club Health Spa? Talk about a muddy pitch! Kerry, Moss, Lynne and others frolicking in the thick of it!! 4 Tingira boat club newsletter 91 coast road macleay island qld 4184
Australia Day Aussie BBQ a fair dinkum success! It was a fantastic start to the Tingira Club year with a large number of members (looking quite refreshed after the Christmas - New Year break) attending the Club s Australia Day BBQ. Accolades to all those responsible for the preparation of our perfect Aussie BBQ lunch from the traditional damper, lamb roast, yummy salads finishing with the delectable lammies. Also a big thank you to our volunteer bus and bar crew. The Club s new RIB safety boat was christened Sandpiper in a traditional boat naming ceremony. Commodore Neville had won the christening rights as part of the Name the New RIB Competition. The photo shows Neville appeasing Great Zephyrs, exalted ruler of the West Wind with a splash of champagne to spare the boat s crew from the scourge of its wild breath.
