TIMING Timing is provided by a MyLaps system provided by RaceAhead timing. Your timing chip is on your race number - you ll cross timing mats at the start and finish to record your time. You can choose when you want to start the race within a 30 minute period (see schedule table). It s not a mass start so there s no battle to get onto the trails first. Run on your own, run with your pals, start early, or go at the back it s your choice as your time will be unaffected. Please gather near the start area, ready to go 15 minutes before your race is due to start. A member of the event team will set runners off at intervals to avoid bottlenecks on the first part of the course. Remember, your time only starts when you cross the mat at the start line. BAG DROP At registration, there s also a bag/jacket drop area. You re welcome to leave personal items here free of charge while you are out on course, but please note that the organisers hold NO responsibility for damaged/missing/lost items. You will receive a wristband to wear and a duplicate wristband will be attached to the item you are leaving in the bag/jacket drop. You must exchange your wristband upon your return to the bag/ jacket drop for your item/s. MEDAL You will receive your finishers medal at the end of the run. COURSE SUMMARY CHANGING COURSE LENGTH Please note; the advertised course may change subject to weather, ground conditions or other reasons. Please come prepared for a variety of trail surfaces and sections that are very muddy and slippy, more so after rain. There are also sections of loose stones and old railway track bed which are loose in places. Trails are a blend of grass track and some tarmac surfaces. Please note the exit to the tunnel is currently very muddy due to recent rainfall. If you would like to change route length (eg 20km to 10km or vice versa), you will be able to do so at registration on Saturday 20 October. If you decide to change length whilst running, you must inform the timing official on your return to Event HQ. 5

4K ROUTE Follow the GREEN markers. The circular course starts along the same path as the 20k & 10k routes out of Hay Lodge park on an undulating riverside path. As the trail widens, you ll run beneath the stunning Neidpath Castle and up steep steps to the viaduct to cross the river Tweed. You ll catch your first sight of the tunnel entrance here run through and enjoy the unique lighting experience, then a quick dash over the silver bridge and back up to finish in the park. TUNNEL TRAIL RUN 2018 4k route START/FINISH TUNNEL 6

10K ROUTE Follow the BLUE markers. The 10k course contains approximately 290m of climbing/descent. It includes riverside paths, an old railway path and viaduct before a section through pine woods. There s a short(ish), sharp hill climb in this section don t be ashamed to walk if you want! More conifer woodland paths follow this before a section through deciduous woodland takes you to the tunnel entrance. 600m of subterranean running experience later (loose and stony underfoot) you ll come out to a damp and muddy railway cutting before diving back into Hay Lodge Park and the final furlong to the finish. TUNNEL TRAIL RUN 2018 10k route START/FINISH TUNNEL WATER/GELS 7

8 20K ROUTE Follow the RED markers. The 20k course contains approximately 500m of climbing/ descent, so will provide a proper hill challenge along the way for the hill-runners too. The first few km follow the banks of the river Tweed, on a walking path and then a disused railway track, which takes you to a footbridge crossing the river. Turning back on yourself, the trail follows a footpath and then unsurfaced private road before rejoining a lovely riverside trail. A tarmac climb leads to pine wood trails, before crossing a wall, joining the John Buchan Way for a section before heading up a further (stiff!) climb to the highest point on the course at Cademuir. A long, fun descent through beautiful woodland follows, before a further and final tarmac pull up The Sware (indeed you might) to join the 10k route in South Park Woods and down into the dark and lights of the tunnel. Once back out in the normal world, it s a charge back to Hay Lodge Park and back to the finish. TUNNEL TRAIL RUN 2018 20K ROUTE START/FINISH THE TUNNEL WATER/GELS
