St. Augustine High School s Daily Buzz Friday, September 18, 2015 NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH Medal of Honor Recipient Philip Bazaar, a Chilean member of the U.S. Navy, for bravery during the Civil War. He received his Congressional Medal of Honor in 1865. Cuban American Civil War Soldier Loretta Janet Velázquez born 1842 year of the death unknown. She wanted to fight in the Civil War and didn t want to be stopped because she was a woman. She disguised herself as a man named Harry Buford, even wearing a fake mustache, and joined the Confederate forces. She was discovered only after she was injured in battle. Today is the 68 th Birthday of the United States Air Force!
JACKET PREP JACKET PREP, our after-school tutoring program, providing tutoring in core subjects on Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. in the Media Center. ATHLETICS Any girls interested in playing on the Varsity or JV Lady Jackets Basketball Team, sign up in the Front Office. Come to the ASL club meeting the last Friday of the month (in September 25th). Dues are $8.00. Next meeting we will hold officer election and plan our tie dye party! The National Honor Society meeting is scheduled for Friday, September 25 th. Spanish Club meets every 1 st and 3 rd Tuesday of the month from 4-5:00pm in B- 239. You can earn an hour of volunteer service for helping with the Hispanic Heritage Month display. The Taking a Stand Club meets every Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m. in room B238. Come listen to former bullies and bullied, but don t feel that you need share yourself.
