St. Augustine High School s Daily Buzz Friday, September 18, 2015 NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH Medal of Honor Recipient Philip Bazaar, a Chilean member of the U.S. Navy, for bravery during the Civil War. He received his Congressional Medal of Honor in 1865. Cuban American Civil War Soldier Loretta Janet Velázquez born 1842 year of the death unknown. She wanted to fight in the Civil War and didn t want to be stopped because she was a woman. She disguised herself as a man named Harry Buford, even wearing a fake mustache, and joined the Confederate forces. She was discovered only after she was injured in battle. Today is the 68 th Birthday of the United States Air Force!

JACKET PREP JACKET PREP, our after-school tutoring program, providing tutoring in core subjects on Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. in the Media Center. There is bus transportation home at 4:00 p.m. You MUST have a permission form signed by your parent in order to participate. Permission forms are available from your English teacher and in the Front Office. Girls Soccer FUNDRAISERS Will be selling Jacket spirit shirts today during all three lunches. The shirt will be $7 and will also get students into the Friday night football game for free when wearing the shirt. Come by and see the soccer team at your lunch! Volleyball Tuesday, September 29, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. is fundraiser night at Zaxby s! Come to Zaxby s and help raise money for SAHS Volleyball just by eating delicious Zaxby s chicken! 10% of total sales will be donated to the SAHS volleyball team. Location: 1107 N. Ponce De Leon Blvd., St. Augustine. AVID All AVID students are selling cookie dough to raise funds for the AVID program! If you love some warm, gooey, yummy cookies, make sure you order some from your AVID students! We need students who would like help decorate a shopping cart for the class food drive, we need 6 girls and 6 boys who would like to represent the freshman class in the Homecoming Volleyball Tournament, and we need lots of students to help with homecoming skits: writers, actors, even prop, set and costume designers. So whether you re athletic, artistic, or just have great school spirit there is something for you. Stop by Ms. Naughton s room, E501 to sign up now! HOMECOMING VOLLEY BALL GAMES If you are interested in playing in the Homecoming Volleyball games, please pick up an informational flyer in the Front Office. DUAL ENROLLMENT Attention all students: Are you interested in taking dual enrollment courses through SJR State? Mrs. Maltby will be holding an information session on September 23rd during all three lunches in the HIVE. Bring your lunch and get informed. Registration for spring semester will take place October 5-7. SEE YOU AT THE POLE Nationwide day of prayer! WHY: An opportunity for Teachers, Students, Administration and volunteers of SAHS to come and pray over the school year. We will have worship and a short devotion, followed by the prayer time. Visit the sights and sounds that was once the center of the Incan Empire. Go whitewater rafting and zip lining, visit the equator, historical breathtaking basilicas, and a Condor birds of prey center, as well as take part in an indigenous homestay all while earning 40 hours of Bright-Future Community Service Hours. To find out how you can be a part of this once in a lifetime trip be sure to attend the information meeting Wednesday, September 30th. ATHLETICS Any girls interested in playing on the Varsity or JV Lady Jackets Basketball Team, sign up in the Front Office. Girls interested in playing softball can sign up now in Coach Esguerra s Room E507 until September 30. Regular Club and Activity Meetings: CLUBS Hey! Want to join a fun club? Come to the ASL club meeting the last Friday of the month (in September 25th). Dues are $8.00. Next meeting we will hold officer election and plan our tie dye party! The National Honor Society meeting is scheduled for Friday, September 25 th. Spanish Club meets every 1 st and 3 rd Tuesday of the month from 4-5:00pm in B- 239. You can earn an hour of volunteer service for helping with the Hispanic Heritage Month display. The Taking a Stand Club meets every Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m. in room B238. Come listen to former bullies and bullied, but don t feel that you need share yourself. High Q The High Q team is practicing on Mondays in the Media Center from 4-4:30p.m. If you are still interested in joining, please come to practice or stop by room E-505 for information. The deadline to register is Monday, September 21st!
