THE ROYAL HONG KONG REGIMENT (THE VOLUNTEERS) ASSOCIATION www.rhkr.org January 2016 Honorary President Major Ron D Taylor has accepted the Chairman s invitation to be the new Honorary President. And the Association thanked Major Pavri for his contribution. The AGM and Annual Dinner Bernard Yuen The AGM and Annual Dinner were held on 28 th August in Craigengower Cricket Club again. The dinner this year was also well supported by the members and we had 11 tables and many members still couldn t buy the tickets. Therefore, we are planning to move to another restaurant so that we can have more tables and more members can join the dinner. We had 4 Directors stepped down and they were Ron Taylor, Chan Ho Yim, Leung Chun Chung and Kevin Chan. The four new directors were Benny Wong, Choi Kwok Wah, William Lee and Allen Tam. After the first new director board meeting held in September, Mr Joseph Pau became the new Chairman, Mr Matthew Wong was 1 st Vice Chairman and Mr Benny Wong the 2 nd Vice Chairman. The Association donated some souvenirs for the lucky draw and some Directors also donated their gifts. They were Bernard Yuen, Chung Kin Keung, Ma Ka Lok, Ng Chi Wa, Leung Chun Chung and Ma Lai Chun. Thank you very much to them and lucky draw in the dinner was always the highlight. Each Sqn came to stage to take the Sqn photo after the dinner. 1

Ceremonies 2015 08 16 Victory Day Ceremony Mr. C J Pintos represented the Association to lay the wreath. 2015 08 30 Victory of the Chinese War of Resistance The Chairman thanked those who supported the ceremony. The march went well despite of the rainy weather. There were 99 members in the march. 70 th Anniversary of the Victory over Japan Parade Bernard Yuen This year is the 70 th anniversary of the Victory over Japan and the 14 Uniform Groups jointly organised a parade starting from Kowloon Park, marching through Haiphong Road, Canton Road, Salisbury Road and Nathan Road, then back to Kowloon Park. The Parade was hosted by the Hong Kong Adventure Corps and the Parade Commander was our ex-swo Mr. Cheng. The Association was invited and we had sent our volunteers and J Corps Old Boys to join. Our contingent commander was Maj (Ret d) Leung Chun Chung and his morale was so high as same as he was the commander of the Home Guards Sqn in the parade in Wan Chai 20 years ago when the Regiment disbanded. It was also a coincident that the number of volunteers in our contingent was ninety nine. Although there was a heavy shower during the parade, it didn t hamper our spirit and performance. The public applauded to our company when we marched pass them. The Secretary of Security, Mr. Lai Tung Kwok, took the salute from us before we entered back to Kowloon Park. 2015 09 03 Ceremony to Commemorate The 70th Anniversary Day of the Victory of the Chinese people s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Our Director Mr Wan Shun-shing was for laying the wreath. 2

As usual we provide manning right from the starting point at Pak Tam Chung, Sai Kung till the finishing point at Tai Tong, Yuen Long with nine check points in 4

between, including as quarter master at Kau Wa Keng. The Volunteers maintain manning of the start and finish points, check points 1(jointly with HKAC), 8 and 9, water points 1 and 3, sweep teams and action and reaction teams; which resemble an annual assembly of our old friends after disbandment. The remaining check points are manned by: Police, Fire Services, Correctional Services, ICAC and Immigrations. Since last year Oxfam had a new arrangement by adding one early start at 0830 for the Super and 24-hour Teams, i.e. 5 starts all together; the latest start is at 1400 as past years. Furthermore there is a team of CEOs from varies enterprises joining the walk at 0930, though for a short distance of about 7 km around Pak Tam Chung only. Blessed with favourable weather throughout the event and good preparation by all parties concerned thus leading to the low dropout rate of walkers this year; 5113 walkers registered at the SP, 88% (4502) of individual walkers and 70% of full teams completed the whole course of 100km. Oxfam followed the route as it had been changed since 2009. Trailwalker is one of the toughest team challenges in the world. The first team was Team 2H2 (S53) at 11hrs 58mins, second. Champion System (S06) at 12hrs 21mins and third, S04) at 12hrs 52mins. Thanks to the concerted effort and hard work of the volunteers, the whole event runs smoothly and successfully. We should keep up the spirit of Trailwalker and look forward for more helping hands for years to come. 2015 12 09 Ex-Hon Col Guy Watkins visit The Ex-Hon Col Guy Watkins visited the Association on 09 December 2015 5
