1 The kind of people that all teams need are people who are humble, hungry and smart; willing to work for the betterment of the team. CMYSA February Newsletter - Patrick Lencioni Club Philosophy Players of Action: being a good teammate CMYSA uses the game of soccer to teach attributes helpful beyond sports. This month s focus is Players of ACTION particularly being a good teammate. Good teammates can collaborate with players and coaches and respect on and off the field. Inside Club Philosophy: 1 con t pg 3: Club Grand: 2 Save the Dates: 3 Travel and Rec Update 4 Soccer Central 5 CMYSA Sponsors 6 In order to have a successful team in soccer, the element of teamwork is ever pressing. Without everyone working together for the betterment of the team, it is difficult to have success. When you are faced with adversity in games, your teammates are who you turn to. Your teammates are really everything because they go through the journey of a season with you. The higher the competition, the more difficult it becomes to win on your own. Good teammates do several things: Follow me to Page 3

Complete any of the pick ups in this link 5 times and get 25 points! There are 5 pick ups so that could be 125 points! Plus they are pretty cool tricks to impress your friends. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohpaey2 0qJE Build up your grit and get your 1,000 points done if you are behind!

Issue [#] :: [Date] Continued from page 1 1. Support everyone: You re not going to win every game. The support you have for each other when you lose is even more important than when you win. Being there for each other in low times is what separates good teams from great ones. Show support by: saying something positive to a teammate after a rough game or when s/he makes a mistake. Pointing out faults or blaming others does nothing to make a team better. Keep it positive! 2. Communicate: talking AND listening is vital to improvement and learning. Hearing what your teammate needs, listening to your coach or giving your teammates information about what is going on during the game shows respect and helps you learn. Body language is also important. Don t shrug, hang your head or roll your eyes when things don t go your way. Negativity is contagious! Giving a teammate a thumbs up after a mistake or You got the next one! can go a long way. 3. Be a leader: knowing how to work hard helps others raise their level too. Encouraging players to improve and push themselves makes practices more fun and games more competitive. Leadership also means being accountable. Meaning don t blame others when you make a mistake. 4. Stay Humble: It s challenging to stay humble when things are going well for you. Remember you didn t do everything yourself. Maybe you got a pass to get the goal, or a defender cleared the ball after a huge save. Thanking teammates for their work and remembering the team effort goes a long way. Everyone likes to be recognized for the good things s/he did. 5. Is a good friend: treating teammates with respect and having friends on the team makes going to practice and games fun. Leaving someone out, hurting a teammate s feelings not only makes it less enjoyable but can also decrease effort. Good teammates ask teammates to join an activity before practice; they compliment each other; and they help each other throughout practice like getting a ball for a teammate or helping a player up after a tackle. Encourage your player to try to meet someone new at training and do something each practice to be a good teammate. This is a skill that needs to be practiced to become ingrained. Being a good teammate will not only help in sports but also school projects or at a job when working with coworkers for the good of the company.

Travel Update Second Session for CMYSA Travel Winter Training starts February 17th. This new style of training offered all teams access to turf space for off season training and the cheapest indoor club training EVER! The 12-week session included 12 hours of soccer training and 6 hours of Rejuv strength training. The participation has been outstanding! Out of our 360 travel players, 270 (75%) have signed up for at least 6 weeks of training! Uniforms Additional Sizing dates will be Feb. 17th from 4:30 to 7:00 at St. John s Gagliardi field; Feb. 18th and 19th from 6 8 PM at St. Cloud State University Dome. Team store will open this month and uniform orders must be completed by Feb. 25th. MYSA league schedules will be released to coaches March 12th. Coaches only have 2 weeks to reschedule games with large player conflicts. Please be prompt in your response to managers and coaches emails! Rec Update [Issue] :: [Date] CMYSA Summer Rec Registration is now open! Some things will remain the same as last year like: The cost ($50 for 1 day a week for U6 players and $105 for U8 and older). Thank you to our continued support from local sponsors to allow fees to remain constant for the past 4 years! We will remain at The location: Apollo High School for U6 through U14 players. The Format: U6-10 will do skills and scrimmage; U12 U18 will play games Some things will change for the betterment of the program and the suggestions from parents. New this year: Improved parking: U16-U18 games will take place at Selke Fields instead of Apollo; we will spread U6 U10 fields and U12 U14 fields to utilize both parking lots U16-U18 will be able to make FOUR friend requests. This will enhance high school programs in the area by letting you play with more teammates. All other age groups will still be able to make ONE friend request. Larger gaps between start times of U12 to U18 games to allow more technical work for players and allow refs more time to check in players for a prompt game start time. More evenly sorted teams by asking for player experience in registration Better identification of trainers and parent helpers in U6 to U10 age groups Information can be found at: http://www.cmysa.org/information Registration can be completed at: http://www.cmysa.org/page/show/3902277registrations Financial Assistance Information can be found at: http://www.cmysa.org/recfinancialassistance Questions can be emailed to Chris at Chris@cmysa.org 4
