Customary Units of Measure Inch- about the size of a small paper clip or the bend of your index finger EX) A pencil is about 5 inches Foot- about the size of a sheet of paper EX) A book is about 1 foot Yard- About the size of a baseball bat EX) A car is about 3 yards long Using a Ruler A ruler is a tool use to measure length. When you measure some objects they land on a whole number. 3 inches Others land in between whole numbers..
