Paul, who grew up 90 minutes away and bought 500 tickets for friends and family, recovered from a scoreless first half to have 20 points and 10 assists, but had a key turnover in the final minute before missing a tying 3-point attempt at the buzzer...the Hornets, who also got 20 points from Peja Stojakovic, stormed back behind Paul to take as much as a five-point lead midway through the fourth quarter...using an odd lineup that included Augustin, Adam Morrison and Matt Carroll, the Bobcats went on a 14-2 run, with Augustin's 3-pointer giving Charlotte an 85-78 lead with 2:54 left... Stojakovic hit two late 3-pointers, the second got the Hornets within 90-89 with 14 seconds left but Felton then hit two free throws, and Paul clanged a deep 3-pointer from the right wing as time expired, sending the Hornets to their second straight loss and ruining their return to their old city...the Hornets were outscored 21-7, shot 3-for-17 and missed all five 3-point attempts in falling behind 47-35 at halftime Paul was 0-for-2 from the field with one assist in the first half and thoroughly outplayed by his former college rival, Felton, who had 11 points Paul got more aggressive, driving to the basket and scoring 14 points in the third quarter as the Hornets got within 66-61 he had consecutive steals and hit a fadeaway as New Orleans took a 76-71 lead...but New Orleans couldn t hold on Augustin finished with 11 points, four assists and one turnover. 2008-09 SEASON: MASTER OF THE 20-10-5 GAME Since the 2005-06 season, Chris Paul has tallied eight games with at least 20 points, 10 assists, and five rebounds Allen Iverson is second with seven outings of the same stature, while Baron Davis and LeBron James have each turned in three 20-10-5 performances. CP AND BIG O ARE ELITE PAIR Chris Paul has reached 20 points and 10 assists in each game this season the feat ties an NBA record set by Oscar Robertson of fivestraight games with at least 20 points and 10 assists to start the season...robertson did so with the Cincinnati Royals in 1968. SECOND QUARTER STRUGGLES The Hornets scored just seven points in the second quarter 11/7at CHA, just one point over the Hornets franchise low it was the lowest points ever scored by a Bobcat opponent in the second period New Orleans shot just 17.6% from the floor (3-of-17) and had seven turnovers. CONTINUING THE STREAK AND THEN SOME Chris Paul registered a steal in the first quarter, extending his streak of consecutive games with a steal to 88 contests he had a careerbest six steals in the game, including five in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter. HORNETS INVADE CHARLOTTE The Hornets secured over 600 tickets as a team, 11/7 at CHA Chris Paul (500 tickets) and David West (50 tickets) both went to high school in North Carolina. TOUGH WAY TO START The Hornets began the regular season 3-0, defeating both the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns on the road, and defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers in the team s home opener on 11/ 1 with the first two victories on the road, New Orleans becomes only the third team in NBA history to start 2-0 with both wins on the road against opponents which had won at least 48 games the previous season the 1993-94 Knicks beat the Celtics and Cavaliers and the 1972-73 Bucks topped the Suns and Warriors. CALL HIM CLUTCH Not only has James Posey let his presence be felt early in his first stint with the Hornets, but he s coming up with big plays at the right time in addition to causing a victory-sealing forced turnover 10/29 at GSW, he was a combined 5-of-9 from the floor, including 4-of-7 from three-point range in the fourth quarter 11/1 vs. CLE and 10/30 at PHO. FIRST WIN IN THE HIVE The home opening night victory at New Orleans Arena against Cleveland improves the Hornets all-time opening night record to 11-10, and 7-1 since moving to New Orleans (2-0 in OKC, 5-1 in NOLA). SUNS NEVER LEAD IN HOME LOSS The Suns never led in their home loss to the Hornets. Phoenix had held a lead in its last 174 home games since losing to San Antonio on March 6, 2004. That had been the second longest current streak in the NBA behind the Spurs, who have led in their last 244 home games.
