INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS GAME NOTES Game #7, Road Game #7 Indianapolis Indians (3-3) at Columbus Clippers (5-2) Thursday, April 12, 2012 -- First Pitch @ 11:35 a.m. EDT Huntington Park -- Columbus, Ohio Indians LHP Jeff Locke (0-0. 4.50 ERA) vs. Clippers RHP Corey Kluber (1-0, 0.00 ERA) TRIBE TRENDS: The Indianapolis Indians ended a two-game skid with an 8-6 win over Columbus on Wednesday, improving the team s record to 3-3 (.500)... The Indians have now scored exactly eight runs in all three of their wins in 2012... C Eric Fryer went 2-for-4 in Wednesday night s win, recording his fourth-straight two-hit game... Fryer has a hit in every game he s played in this season... A day after recording his first career Triple-A hit, INF Jeremy Farrell went 2-for-4 and scored the first two runs of his Triple-A career... INF Brian Friday went hitless for the second consecutive night but drove in his fifth RBI with a sac fly and trails only fellow INF Jordy Mercer (6) for the team lead; Mercer had two RBI in the contest TONIGHT S TRIBE STARTER: LHP Jeff Locke makes his second start of 2012 for the Indians... Locke wound up with a no decision at Toledo, tossing 4.0 innings with eight hits, two earned runs, zero walks and four strikeouts... Locke has never pitched in Columbus... In his only career start against the Clippers, Locke earned a no decision on 8/25 last season in Indianapolis, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing eight hits, an earned run and three walks while recording four strikeouts TONIGHT S CLIPPERS STARTER: Taking the mound for Columbus is RHP Corey Kluber... Kluber is making his second start of 2012 after picking up a win against Louisville in his first start, tossing 5.0 innings and allowing four hits, no runs and three walks while recording 10 strikeouts... Kluber has faced the Indians six times in his career, including picking up a win in his only start against the Tribe in 2010... In five 2011 starts against Indianapolis, Kluber went 1-2, including 0-2 in four starts at Huntington Park... Kluber s most recent start against the Indians came in a loss on 8/26 when he tossed 7.0 innings and allowed three hits, two earned runs and two walks while recording seven strikeouts MORNING MATCHUPS: In eight matchups prior to 12:00 p.m. in 2011 the Indians went 2-6 and were outscored 39-17... The Tribe faced off against Columbus in one morning matchup in 2011, suffering a 5-2 loss on 16 at Victory Field RISKY BUSINESS: Right-handed reliever Bryan Morris had struck out all five batters he had faced in 2012 going into Wednesday night s ninth inning, but gave up a home run to Matt LaPorta (4) with his first pitch... After allowing a walk, Morris gave up another first-pitch homer, this time to Lonnie Chisenhall (3)... After that, Morris settled down and struck out three consecutive Clippers to preserve the 8-6 Indians win... Each out Morris has collected this season has been by the strikeout and the right handed hurler now has eight punchouts in 2.1 innings pitched this season NINTH-INNING ISSUES: Three times this season the Indians have allowed three runs in the ninth inning: 4/7, 4/9 and 4/11... Collectively, the Tribe staff has a 19.76 ERA in the ninth inning in 2012... Indians pitchers have also allowed one earned run in three extra innings this season for a 3.00 ERA in bonus frames LET IT FLY: The Tribe pitching staff gave up five home runs in Wednesday night s win... The last time the Indians gave up five home runs in a game was 4/9/2010, also against Columbus and also in a win (14-12)... Interestingly, OF Trevor Crowe hit a home run for the Clippers in both of those games... Indianapolis gave up four home runs in a game twice last season, 7/23 vs. Rochester (L, 12-5) and 8/17 vs. Louisville (L, 8-4) BOGGS BASHING: OF Brandon Boggs hit his team-leading third home run in Wednesday s win... The only other Indians with homers are OF Starling Marte (1) and Mercer (1)... Boggs has five hits this year, four of them for extra bases (three homers and a triple)... He also leads the Indians with six runs and an.800 slugging percentage, is second on the team with 16 total bases (Clement, 17) and is in a tie with Marte for third on the team with four RBI DOUBLE THE PLEASURE, DOUBLE THE FUN: 1B/DH Jeff Clement s only hit in Wednesday s night victory was a double, his sixth of the season, which leads all Triple-A batters... Clement leads all Indians batters in average (.458), on-base percentage (.519), OPS (1.227), hits (11) and total bases (17)... Fryer added his fourth double of the season on Wednesday and ranks second on the team behind Clement TURN TWO: After turning a lone double play in the season s first five games, the Indians turned two in Wednesday night s win... Both twin killings went 6-4-3, Mercer-to-Friday-to-Clement UPCOMING SCHEDULE & PROBABLES Fri., April 13 vs. Toledo -- 7:15 p.m. LHP Andy Oliver vs. RHP Brad Lincoln (IND) Sat., April 14 vs. Toledo -- 7:05 p.m. LHP Casey Crosby vs. RHP Jo-Jo Reyes (IND) Sun., April 15 vs. Toledo -- 1:15 p.m. RHP Thad Weber vs. LHP Rudy Owens (IND) Mon., April 16 vs. Toledo -- 7:05 p.m. LHP Fu-Te Ni vs. LHP Justin Wilson (IND) Tues., April 17 vs. Columbus -- 7:05 p.m. TBA vs. LHP Jeff Locke (IND) 2012 TRIBE AT A GLANCE Overall 3-3 Streak W1 Home 0-0 Home Streak --- Road 3-3 Road Streak W Place T-2nd Last 5 3-3 Games Behind 1.5 Last 10 3-3 Home Attendance Average Attendance WEST Team W-L GB COL 5-2 -- IND 3-3 1.5 TOL 3-3 1.5 LOU 2-5 3.0 Home Openings League Rank INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE STANDINGS NORTH Team W-L GB LHV 5-2 -- ROC 5-2 -- BUF 4-3 1.0 PAW 3-4 2.0 SYR 2-4 2.5 SWB 1-5 3.5 SOUTH Team W-L GB DUR 5-2 -- GWN 4-3 1.0 CHA 3-4 2.0 NOR 2-5 3.0 INDIANAPOLIS VS.
