Dear SO Eastern Region Badminton Club, The Badminton Regional Advancement Event will take place this year on the following date: May 19 th 2013 Baldoyle Badminton Centre, Baldoyle. 56 athletes will compete in this year s Badminton Regional Advancement Event in three events Individual Skills, Singles, and Doubles. Head Coach Meeting Opening Ceremony Divisioning Matches for Singles Event Individual Skills Event (followed by awards upstairs in the function room) Competition for athletes in Singles Event Lunch Competition for athletes in Doubles Event Awards Ceremony Closing Ceremony Please ensure that your athletes arrive on time and nominate one coach to check all the athletes from your club in. The Head Coach meeting will be upstairs in the function room. Please make your way there on arrival. Divisioning: Athletes will be divisioned based on age/gender/ability as per the Special Olympics International Rules. Athletes have been preliminary divisioned based on their scores from the grading session that took place on the 9 th February 2013. For a very small number of athletes who were absent on the grading day, coaches have summited grading forms for these athletes. A divisioning round on the morning of competition will be the overriding consideration when creating final divisions. The divisioning round will consist of a divisioning team who will do a visual assessment based on court play. For each pair in doubles the athletes singles grade will be added together to create the overall pair s grade for the event. Athletes in the Individual Skills Event have been divisioned based on age/gender/ability as per the Special Olympics International Rules. Their result from last year s advancement event is what we used for the qualifying score. The singles and doubles competition will be one game to 21 with no setting. Where there are only two players / pairs in a division there will be a final which will be the best of three sets (no setting).
If one player from a pairing is absent on the day that pairing will be scratched from the doubles competition. No new pairings can be made on the day. Advancement Events take place within a 4-year-cycle. Athletes competing in this year s events have advanced from their Area Event which took place in 2012. Athletes competing in this event may advance to Ireland Games in 2014 and from there they may again advance to Represent Team Ireland in World Games 2015. YEAR 1: 1st Level of Advancement Area Advancement Event YEAR 2: 2 nd Level of Advancement Regional Advancement Event YEAR 3: 3 rd Level of Advancement Ireland Games 2014 - Limerick YEAR 4: 4 th Level of Advancement World Games 2015, Los Angeles Additional Important Information: Athletes should bring a packed lunch and plenty of water on the day. APF/medical forms must be present on the day for all competing athletes. Athletes should come ready for competition wearing a track suit / shorts / polo shirt and runners. The event will have a Health Promotion stand which we hope that athletes, coaches and family members will avail of. There will be a family s information stand. There is a café in site in which refreshments can be purchased, there will also be Merchandise available to purchase. The event entry fee is 15 per athlete this must be paid in total per club no later than Tuesday the 7 th May 2013. Directions to Baldoyle Badminton Centre: Head northeast on the M50 Take the N32 exit on the right toward Malahide At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto N32 At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto R809 Turn right onto Grange Ave, the Baldoyle Badminton Centre will be on your right. Below you will see the Preliminary Divisions for the Singles and Doubles Events. If for any reason an athlete is unable to attend on the day of competition please call the Competition Manager in advance of arriving to the venue on morning of competition.
