HARC MINUTES FOR SEPTEMBER 2018 MEETING Respectfully submitted by Dave Milam KB0RZN Hannibal Amateur Radio Club Monthly Meeting Minutes September 12th, 2018 Don (KD0HHN) opened the meeting at 7:00pm with 14 members present. Skipping introductions, Don then asked if everyone had read the minutes and if there were any proposed changes. A motion to accept was made by Vern WØKEM Page - 3 -

WØKEM Page - 4 - (W5UYF) and seconded by Dave (K9FHX). The motion carried. Treasurer s Report: Larry (WB2UFO) read the Treasurer s Report. Last month s Ending Balance was $1,958.97, this month s Ending Balance is $2,060.97, and the CD Balance is $1,328.60, making the Club s Total Assets $3,389.57. A motion to accept the Treasurer s Report was made by Dave (K9FHX) and seconded by Dave (WA9GBC). The motion carried. Repeaters: Vern (W5UYF) reported the.88 machine is still down, he and Tommy (KA0EJQ) pulled the amplifier chassis and checked it out and it was fine. They suspect a logic board in the controller. Tommy is going to see if he has any replacements. Vern mentioned that we need to have a workday to repair/replace the ground at the site. Unfinished Business: Don (KD0HHN) announced tentative plans for an upcoming Technician Class that the Club will sponsor. Dates proposed are November 3 rd, 10 th, 17 th and December 1 st, all Saturdays; skipping Saturday November 24 th because of Thanksgiving weekend. Don will check back with the Ambulance District to make sure the building will be available. New Business: We now have about 30 feet of Rohn 25 tower plus a base donate by Dan (AA9TL) from Quincy. Rob (KE0DZI) and WØKEM Page - 4 -

WØKEM Page - 5 - Mark (N0ZOF) went over and picked it up. Dave (K9FHX) suggested checking with Mike (NA9Q) who might have another section or two if we wanted to go a little higher. Don will be checking with Chief Nemes about where we can install our permanent antennas. John (N0JA) brought the donated TA-33 tri-bander antenna, and will refurbish and bring a rotor and controller. We ll need some 8 conductor rotor cable. Larry (WB2UFO) said he had about 100 feet we could use. Don requested we get more participation on the Monday Night Net. We have only been getting 5 to 15 people checking in. We need to utilize and exercise the equipment to make sure it is ready for possible emergency use. Don informed the Club that Tony (W0PGL) is in Blessing Hospital for cardiac rehab. He had a heart attack about 3 or 4 weeks ago and was treated at Barnes in St. Louis. Don said he didn t find out until a couple of weeks after it happened. In light of the fact that we have had several members hospitalized in the past, he requested we share information when one of us has health or other issues. Don reminded everyone that dues will be coming up in the next couple of months and requested we get them paid in a timely manner. See Larry (WB2UFO). The Missouri Legislature is working on a bill to reword the STEM program for schools. Amateur clubs have found it can be a good place to recruit for amateur radio. There used to be a School Club in Hannibal, and possibly we could generate some interest. Elections will be coming up in December. The current slate of officers is Don (KD0HHN) President, Ed (N0WNV) Vice WØKEM Page - 5 -

WØKEM Page - 6 - President, Larry (WB2UFO) Treasurer, Dave (KB0RZN) Secretary, and Cliff (K0CA) Trustee. If you re interested in running for any of these positions, see Don. The Simulated Emergency Test will be coming up in October. It s still in the planning stage, and Don will let everyone know when it will be scheduled. Anyone interested in participating should contact Don. Dave (K9FHX) wanted to thank anyone that participated in the Quincy Hamfest for a very successful event. Hopefully it will be in the same place and about the same time next year. Dave said the only problem might have been a lack of advertising for the event. Don suggested putting it on the Traffic Net next year. 50/50: The 50/50 was won by Rocky (KE0KCR). Rocky donated it back to the Club. Thanks Rocky! A motion to adjourn was made by Rocky (KE0KCR) and seconded by Dave (K9FHX). The motion carried and the meeting be adjourned. FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK WØKEM Page - 6 -

WØKEM Page - 7 - BY DON VARY KDØHHN Hello everyone. First off, there will be a Technician class starting November 3 and running the 10 th, 17 th and finishing on the 1 st of December. The class will be held at Base 1, where we currently are meeting. The class will run from 9AM to about noon with the testing session being on the 1 st of December. Cost is $22.46 for the textbook and, of course $15.00 for the testing. If you know of anyone who would like to take the class, have them contact me and I can get them the book and get them registered. At the last meeting Vern, W5UYF reported that the problem at 880 was related to a lightning strike. He found a ground rod outside of the building but nothing is connected to it. He is working on getting the needed supplies and we will be calling a grounding party to properly ground the repeater. Also I will be getting in touch with Chief Nemes to see about where we can put up the tower we were given. Several sites have been looked at and we will give these to the Chief and let them decide where they would let us put it up. Once that is done we can also see about the 2 poles that are at the admin building, and get some antennas up in the air. Well, guess that s all for now. Everyone stay safe and we ll see you down the log. 73 Don Donald Vary KD0HHN Emergency Coordinator - Marion County ARES Missouri Section Amateur Radio Emergency Service ARRL Field Instructor & Examiner NTS Digital Relay Station Central Area PH# 573-221-8205 email: kd0hhn@hotmail.com WØKEM Page - 7 -
