Revolutionary extraction technology quantitative by design.

Say Goodbye to SPME... and hello to Sorbent Pens! A revolutionary new extraction technology. Sorbent Pen Heavy & Labile SVOC s Taints, Off-Flavors, Odors Standard Sorbent Pen Ultimate Extraction Power! Perform exhaustive vacuum extraction of Mid-VOCs through SVOCs. See taints, odors, additives, flavors / fragrances at levels below previously possible. Durable, Reuseable, Introducing Entech s exciting new Sorbent Pen technology. The and Cost Effective! most versatile extraction and sample preconcentration technology available for GC and GCMS. Sorbent Pens combine the features of SPME and classical ¼ adsorbent traps in a design with far more flexibility and enhanced performance. Sorbent Pens are extremely durable and are designed to perform sampling either in the field or in the laboratory, either actively or via diffusion at atmospheric pressure or under a vacuum. The sorbent pen is then desorbed directly onto the head of a GC column to eliminate losses associated with standard ¼ TD trap desorption systems that must transfer samples through a lengthy transfer line prior to delivery onto the GC column. Two versions are available to optimize performance depending on the application. The Micro Sorbent Pen has an extremely small volume that delivers the sample to the GC column almost instantly, providing injection rates comparable to liquid nitrogen focusing traps, without requiring liquid nitrogen or any other coolent, or the complexity of electronic cooling. The Micro Sorbent Pen has an extremely wide range of applications, from active or diffusive air sampling, water analysis of volatiles and SVOCs including endocrine disruptors and pharmaceuticals, flavors and taints odors in foods, and static testing of product emissions. The full-size Sorbent Pen offers a larger phase loading to efficiently extract more complex samples using vacuum over a time period of 1 48 hours. With Sorbent Pens, heavy VOCs and SVOCs can be measured in waste water, breath condensate, alcoholic beverages, and a wide variety of different matrices. The opportunity to use either Sorbent Pens or Micro-Sorbent Pens under vacuum offers a tremendous advantage over SPME, Dynamic Headspace, and other extraction techniques that perform extractions at atmospheric pressure where diffusion rates are much slower. Sorbent Pens perform sample enrichment offline from a GCMS, allowing 30 90 or more samples to extract simultaneously. This approach allows high throughputs overall (30 70 samples a day), while still allowing long extraction times to allow full equilibrium between the sample and the Sorbent Pen. In some applications, complete extraction of target compounds into the Sorbent Pen is possible for the ultimate in sensitivity and reproducibility. The low cost 5800 Sorbent Pen Desorption Unit (SPDU) shown on Pg 18 makes this exciting new technique both affordable and practical for virtually any laboratory s budget. Then move up to 90 sample automation using the 7800 Autosampler for the ultimate in laboratory productivity. Join the Sorbent Pen movement and take advantage of the next generation in GCMS sample preparation. 1

The Sorbent Pen Advantage Huge Advantage over SPME and Dynamic Headspace Trapping Highly Reproducible. Durable. Samples via active, diffusive, or vacuum extraction modes. Faster injection rates produces better chromatography / less thermal degradation. Both volatile and semi-volatile compatible. Focused injections without cryogen or electronic cooling. Far less carryover. Secondary bakeout/cleanup typically not required. Laboratory or Field Sampling. Off-Line Extraction allows both high sensitivity and fast GCMS. Sample up to 2 days under vacuum for unsurpassed SVOC recovery. Diffusive sampling of outdoor air from 1 day to 1 month. Combine Canister and Sorbent Pen Sampling for C2 C25 Analysis! 3 Modes of Operation - Limitless Applications! Diffusive Sampling Absorbs samples at constant rate for long-term indoor / outdoor air monitoring. Vacuum Sampling Extracts SVOC s 10x faster than atmospheric pressure sampling. Complete extraction before spoilage (dairy, meat, etc.) Active Flow-Through Sampling Introduce known sample volume for fast, quantitative analysis. 7 8 0 0 Autosampler The 7800 Autosampler automates the analysis of up to 90 Sorbent Pens and Micro-Sorbent Pens using 3 removable 30 position trays. The ability to use Sorbent Pens to pre-extract the headspace in a sample vial, or perform air sampling in almost any location, followed by rapid delivery to a GCMS creates the ideal combination of sensitivity and efficiency. The 7800 delivers each Sorbent Pen to the 5800 SPDU for simultaneous GCMS injection and bakeout. After bakeout, the 7800 returns the Sorbent Pen to the sealed sample tray leaving clean Pens that are usually ready for resampling without further conditioning. Entech s Micro-QT seal technology ensures leak tight connections, while the reproducibility of the Sorbent Pen allows for quantitative determination of headspace concentrations. The combined power and simplicity of the Sorbent Pen and 7800 / 5800 SPDU provides an ideal solution for recovering a vastly extended range of compounds in the sample headspace, allowing development of hundreds of applications compatible with virtually any matrix. Finally, headspace enrichment solutions THAT RLLY WORK! Entech Sorbent Pens and Accessories. See more than ever before! 5

5 8 0 0 S P D U Sorbent Pen Desorption Unit Both the Sorbent Pen and Micro-Sorbent Pen can be analyzed using the 5800 SPDU. After sample enrichment, simply insert the Sorbent Pen into the 5800 SPDU, and press START on the 5800 SPDU Controller. The complete desorption process is performed automatically to transfer both volatile and semi-volatile compounds onto the GCMS for extremely sensitive and accurate headspace analysis. Precisely control the desorption temperature to either limit or maximize the molecular weight range transferred onto the column. A unique desorber design utilizes a Silonite coated flow path, allowing simple liner replacement to maintain maximum inertness for optimum performance. Options are available for automated Internal and Surrogate Standard Addition to ensure the greatest degree of quantitative accuracy and quality assurance. Methods are created and stored on the same PC operating the GCMS. Develop methods using this entry level solution and then add the 7800 Autosampler when you are ready to fully automate the analysis of up to 90 Sorbent Pens. 5800 SPDU easily transfers volatile and semi-volatile compounds to a GCMS for extremely sensitive and accurate headspace analysis. 5800 SPDU Ordering Information DESCRIPTION PART # UNIT Sorbent Pen Desorption Unit (120VAC) 5800-SPDU Sorbent Pen Desorption Unit (230VAC) 5800-SPDU-HV 5800 SPDU Liner for Sorbent Pen 5800-SPDU-LNR-SP 5800 SPDU Micro-Sorbent Pen Liner 5800-SPDU-LNR-MSP 4
