The GU Energy Triathlon 2015 - Final race brief. Car parking. There is plenty of parking in the car park at race HQ, this is free to all competitors, once we fill the car park (190 spaces) you will be directed to the pay and display car park at the Lodmoor Country Park, this is only 50m away so no big deal, only you will have to pay as this is a pay and display car park. The answer to this is get here early to avoid disappointment Please do not park your car on the road where it could obstruct the event and be a nuisance to the locals. You will be able to leave the car park at Race HQ when you have completed your event, if you intend your family/spectators to be driving around during the event then it is better parked in the pay and display car park. Please bring plenty of change as you will not be able to get any from the registration staff. Directions to the car park are here

Timings. Registration and Transition will open at 05:30 You will need to be registered and racked at least 30 minutes before your swim start. If you are late for any reason, no matter how valid it is, you will not be allowed to take part. We will start without you in attendance as we need to be out of the water on time. Half starts at or as close to 07:00 as the weather permits. Registration for this race will close at 06:30 prompt. Classic starts at 08:00 (or when the last swimmer from the half exits the water, whichever is sooner) Registration for this race will close at 07:30 prompt. Sprint starts at 09:00 (or when the last swimmer from the classic exits the water, whichever is sooner) Registration for this race will close at 08:30 prompt. If you are in the sprint or classic you may also register from 05:30 If there are delays for any reason we will keep you posted. Transition is about 5 minutes walk away from the race HQ and finish area. Please keep this in mind when you are getting yourself sorted. Race briefings will be given 15 minutes before race start at Transition, these are compulsory and the race will start as soon as the briefing has finished. Please register in the sports hall at the college - please do not bring your bike to registration, leave this in/on your car and return once you have the registration pack. You will need to put the stickers provided on your equipment before heading off to transition to rack your bike. No stickers - No entry. Prize presentation will be given 45 minutes after the winners have arrived back at the finish. This will be in the race HQ area. Age group prizes will be handed out after we have the last competitor back for your race. If you think you have won an award please be good enough to wait for it, we will not be sending these in the post. You can however collect it at your convenience later in the week. Timing for the event will be done by Full On Sport - this will be live throughout the race and available on their website. We will have a link on our Facebook page and website before the end of the day for you to check your times.

Registration JUST TO REMIND YOU, you will need to be registered and racked at least 30 minutes before your swim start. If you are late for any reason, no matter how valid it is, you will not be allowed to take part. Race registration will take place in the main sports hall. Just follow the Race HQ signs clearly visible in the car park. You will need to show the registration staff your BTF card if you have one along with ID. No card will result in you paying the 5 BTF insurance. Non BTF need not worry, you have already paid for this. All entrants names have been sorted into alphabetical order by surname. Race numbers have thus been assigned. All you need to do is tell the registration staff your name and what race you have entered. They will then issue you with: Race number - TO BE WORN - BIKE/BACK - RUN/FRONT - if no race belt then please wear this on your front. Race stickers as described on the sticker pack. Swim hat. Chip timing device. Lost chips will charged for @ 50 per chip. Please make sure it is secured on to your LEFT ankle under your wetsuit, no chip means no time. You will need to register before you rack your bike in transition as you will need your wrist band to get into. Transition area. To gain access and to rack your bike you must show the member of event staff A, your race and bike number B, security wrist band. To retrieve your bike at the end of the race you must produce the same as above. Racking is numbered and you MUST rack your bike by your number. Run/bike in/out gates will all be clearly marked. Make sure you orientate yourself thoroughly with the transition layout and your bike location. Conduct All officials and marshals are volunteers, races could not take place without them. Abuse will result in disqualification. Litter Any littering during the race will result in DQ and a ban from any future BustinSkin Events. Food wrappers etc can be tucked in the leg of your shorts until you can dispose of them properly.

Transition layout Race briefing This will be held in the transition area. Before you attend the compulsory briefing please make sure your transition area is ready to go and that you are dressed and equipped for the swim. The race will start on completion of the briefing. The briefing will cover course rules and is mandatory. Rules you really need to know NO MP3 PLAYERS ALLOWED AT ANY TIME IN THIS EVENT Helmets During the race must be worn and fastened before you remove your bike from the racking and until you place it back on the racking before your run. Transition Area There is no cycling in the transition area at any time. The cycle mount and dismount points will be marked outside the transition area. Space is limited, only take into transition what you need for the race. Helmets, shoes and other equipment must be stored neatly at your racking point and not impeding other competitors. Outside Assistance Once the race has started you cannot accept any outside assistance other than that provided by marshals or other race officials. Things like taking food or drink from persons out on the course or mechanical assistance are prohibited.

The Swim course. (Wetsuits are compulsory). SPRINT RACE 750M CLASSIC RACE 1500m HALF RACE 1900m A mass start from the beach. (This will be a deep water start if the tide is not with us) The water course is marked by very large orange inflatable buoys. The exact lay out of the course is entirely weather and sea condition dependent. The swim course will be made very clear to you in the briefing and large map at registration. Water temperature at the moment is around 16.5 Safety cover will be provided for the swim with kayaks, jet ski and rib back up. Front crawl or breast stroke only please. Backstroke mens you are in trouble and you will be ejected from the swim should you use it. If you are in need of assistance, roll on to your back and raise a hand, one of our safety crew will be there to help you.

Half Bike Route - http://ridewithgps.com/routes/7680625 Half Bike route. HYDRATION STATION The bike course is marshalled by volunteers. They will be located on all prominent junctions if needed. The course is also signed with black arrows on bright Orange boards. Should there be any road works to contend with we will alter the course accordingly. You just follow the ORANGE signs. Sprint - you will follow the orange signs for a short while until you see YELLOW signs, this is where your route splits from the Half, follow the yellow signs until you reach the traffic Island at Warmwell you will keep following the Yellow signs around the Island, pay attention at the roundabout, failure to do so will send you down a dual carriageway with no turning point for 1 mile. You will then follow ORANGE signs back to transition. Classic - you will follow the orange signs for a short while until you see yellow signs, this is where your route splits from the Half, follow the yellow signs until you reach the traffic Island at Warmwell you will then follow the GREEN signs, pay attention at the roundabout, failure to do so will result in you doing the wrong course. You follow the GREEN signs until you reach the traffic Island at Wool, you go around this island and back to Weymouth following the Orange signs. Please make sure you are familiar with the bike course you are riding.

NO MP3 PLAYERS ALLOWED AT ANY TIME IN THIS EVENT Bike rules. Your helmet must be securely affixed to your head during the whole bike course. You are to carry sufficient water and food. You are to obey the high way code at all times. You are to follow instructions given by marshals. No drafting. Any reported incidents will be investigated and penalties applied. You are to mount and dismount your bike before the given line. You are to ride within your limits. Your bike must be in a road worthy condition. HYDRATION STATION - Bike Sprint None Classic None Half This will be located roughly half way on the stretch of road heading towards the Army Camp at Bovington. This will be a bottle with a GU Electrolyte Brew Tab or plain water, your choice, there will also be a selection of GU energy gels. Please discard your old bottle safely in the bins provided if needed, table 1 will have plain water, table 2 will have GU Electrolyte Brew Tabs and gels. The tabs are not an energy drink, they are purely for hydration, gels are provided for energy. Please feel free to use your own drinks during the race on the bike, we will not be providing you with your own special needs area. This is a non drafting bike ride, please don t do it. The draft zone is a rectangle measuring seven metres long by three metres wide which surrounds every cycle on the cycle course. The front edge of the front wheel defines the centre of the leading three metre edge of the rectangle. A competitor may enter the draft zone of another competitor but must be seen to be progressing through that zone. A maximum of 15 seconds is allowed to progress though the draft zone of another competitor. If an overtaking manoeuvre is not completed within 15 seconds, the overtaking cyclist must drop back.

Time penalties and DQ s will be issued by the referee for infringements. Under new guidelines it is not required for the referee to inform you until the event is completed. When a competitor is passed by other competitors it is his or her responsibility to drop back out of the draft zone of the overtaking competitor. A competitor is passed when another competitor s front wheel is ahead of his or hers. If a competitor is frequently passed by or seen to be frequently passing the same competitor this will be seen as working with, or drafting off that competitor and will be subject to the same penalty as drafting. 2 minute time penalty is given for: 1 violation noted by a motorcycle official or 3 violations noted by a static marshal Disqualification Is given for: 2 violations noted by a motorcycle official or 4 violations noted by a static marshal or 3 violations noted by a static marshal and 1 violation noted by a motorcycle official.

Taking shelter behind or beside another competitor or motor vehicle during the bike phase. Drafting and not drafting es 3 metr 7 metres Making a pass A competitor may enter the draft zone if they are making a pass. They have a maximum of 15secs within the draft zone to make the pass, if they cannot pass then they must drop back. VË A & B are maintaining adequate separation. VË C is drafting B as C is not attempting to pass B. Once the pass is complete it is the overtaken cyclists responsibility to drop back. AID STATIONS On the Run A hydration station will be in Lodmoor Country Park, this will have GU Electrolyte Brew, water, gels & sweets. An additional water only station may be provided if the weather demands it, this will be where the sprint & classic routes split from the half. The Half GU Energy Lab is located at the Upwey Train station, Littlemoor, this will have - GU Energy Electrolyte Brew, GU Energy gels, water, flat coke and sweets. Final love station will be at the finish area at Weymouth College - GU Energy Electrolyte Brew, GU Energy gels, water, flat coke, bananas and crisps too PLEASE NOTE - FOR BOTH THE RUN AND CYCLE ROUTES. IF YOU ARE IN THE HALF RACE THE ARROWS YOU FOLLOW WILL BE ORANGE same as your race number and swim cap. IF YOU ARE IN THE CLASSIC RACE THE ARROWS YOU FOLLOW AT THE COURSE SPLIT WILL BE GREEN same as your race number and swim cap. IF YOU ARE IN THE SPRINT RACE THE ARROWS YOU FOLLOW AT THE COURSE SPLIT WILL BE YELLOW your race number will be white, the same as your swim cap. IF YOU ARE ALL GOING IN THE SAME DIRECTION THEY WILL BE Orange. Finish. The finish line is under the Orange Finish Arch in the Weymouth College car park. The finish chute will be flanked with flags, music, banners, mad crowds and the very odd spectator Race timing. Full on sport are going to be doing an excellent job of timing the event and results will be available within seconds of you crossing the finish line, promise Should you have any questions about the timing after the event please contact Jody directly at jody@fullonsport.com Results. There are awards for the top three male/female finishers plus age group awards in each race for male and female competitors.
