The Braves send LHP Tyler Pike (0-9) to the mound and the Barons counter with LHP Tanner Banks (3-7). LAST GAME: Mississippi swept a double header with Birmingham Friday night winning game one 3-0 and taking game two 4-3 in 13 innings. In game one, Kolby Allard and Jordan Guerrero both pitched well, but it was Allard with the upper hand. Allard pitched a one hit shutout giving the Braves the win. Mike Soroka had another quality start in game two, but did not factor in the decision. With the game tied 3-3 at the end of regulation, (7 innings) the two teams battled for six more innings before the Braves won with the walk-off single by Connor Lien in the bottom of the 13th. SUPERSENSATIONAL SATURDAY/FAN APPRECIATION NIGHT: Saturday September 2nd will be Fan Appreciation Saturday sponsored by iheartmedia. All homeplate, dugout, and field level seats will be $6. Hot dogs, 16 oz. fountain drinks will be $2. Also, the first 2,500 fans will receive an Free MBraves baseball cap. In addition to our normal Super Sensational Saturday prize drawing, a special live drawing will take place on September 2rd with prizes featuring a 60 Flat Screen TV, MBraves Club Level Season tickets, 1 year supply of Chick-Fil-A, an Arctic Cat 4-wheeler, and a Tracker Topper 14 fishing boat among other great prizes. POWER PLAY: Trustmark Park has never been known as a hitters park but the Braves set a new all-time home run record this season. The old record of 88 homers was set in 2008. Mississippi currently has hit 96 homers this season, 40 at home and 56 on the road. That 2008 Season had a 25/63 home/road ratio. MISSISSIPPI FARM BUREAU PITCHER OF THE WEEK: RHP Wes Parsons, 24, tossed six innings of four-hit baseball against the Lookouts Friday night. He surrendered just one unearned run while walking two and striking out five. Parsons was named Braves organizational pitcher of the month in May at Double-A Mississippi, appearing in five games (two spot-starts) and recording a 1.69 ERA. He has split time between Triple-A Gwinnett and Double-A Mississippi this season. Parsons is 3-3 with three saves and a 2.59 ERA in 24 games with the M-Braves this season. MISSISSIPPI FARM BUREAU PLAYER OF THE WEEK: OF Jared James, 23, posted a.522 batting average with three doubles and an RBI in five games during the week. He was named Braves Organizational Player of the Month at Double-A Mississippi after hitting.333 with five doubles, a triple and seven RBI during the month of June. James is hitting.275 with 17 doubles, six triples, five home runs and 32 RBI in 108 games with the Double-A Braves this season. He d struck out 15 in 13 innings of work. The southpaw was promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett earlier this week. He was 1-3 with three saves and a 3.45 ERA in 30 relief appearances for the M-Braves this season. He d struck out 68 batters while walking 33 in 44.1 innings pitched. Pfeifer did not allow a run in eight outings during the month of June. IF Dylan Moore, 24, posted a.304 batting average in 26 games during the month of July. He had five doubles, seven RBI and five stolen bases. In 96 games with the Double-A Braves this season, Moore has a.191 average with 11 doubles, three home runs and 31 RBI. THIS DATE IN BRAVES HISTORY: 1957...At Wrigley Field, the Braves sweep the Cubs, 23-10 and 4-0. LAST TIME OUT Tyler Pike suffered his eighth loss of the season in spite of a good start for the Braves against Pensacola last Monday night. He recorded eight strikeouts in four innings while walking three batters. He allowed three runs, but only one was earned, on four hits before leaving the game trailing 3-1. Pike, 23, was 5-2 with a 2.20 ERA in 12 starts at High-A Florida this season. He s struck out 68 while walking just 27 in 69.2 innings of work. Pike posted his best numbers during the month of May, going 3-1 with a 1.80 ERA in five starts for the Fire Frogs. Last season at High-A Bakersfield, Pike went 6-5 with a 4.01 ERA in 25 starts. Pike was originally selected by Seattle in the third round of the 2012 draft. The Florida native was acquired by the Braves as the player to be named later from the Seattle Mariners on December 9, 2016, completing the trade in which Atlanta received OF Alex Jackson from Seattle in exchange for RHP Rob Whalen and RHP Max Povse on November 28, 2016.
