Miracle skid hits season-high five in shutout loss In a game shortened by rain and littered with Miracle errors, the Clearwater Threshers shutout Fort Myers, 5-0, after six innings at Bright House Field. Sam Clay started for the Miracle and allowed five runs, only two earned, on eight hits with no walks and one strikeout over six innings. Clearwater scored in the second inning on a Jiandido Tromp sacrifice fly and added two more runs in the third on a Scott Kingery RBI hit and Chace Numata RBI double. Tromp hit a two-run homer bottom of the sixth to extend the lead to five runs before the rains washed away the rest of the night. The Miracle have now lost a season-high five games in a row and sit 2.5 games out of first place in the FSL South Division. Gordon in the midst of consistent, impressive stretch In his last 33 games, shortstop Nick Gordon has recorded a hit in 24. After an 11-game hitting streak ended on on July 17, Gordon s average sits at.333 (45-for-135) in the last 32 and was a blistering.396 (19-for-48) inside his streak. Nick has been particularly effective on the road. In 43 games away from Hammond Stadium, Gordon is 58-for-182 (.319) with 17 of his 25 extrabase hits and 18 of his 32 RBI. Perez getting regular playing time and producing Drafted in 2015 out of Virginia Tech, Alex Perez was used to playing every game in college. The Miami, Fla. native played in 224 consecutive games to begin his Hokie career. After signing with the Twins as a 23rd round pick, Perez was sent to Elizabethton and appeared in 43 games with a.239 batting average. Beginning this year in Extended Spring Training, Perez was sent to Cedar Rapids (A) in May and played intermittently. In 18 games, six as a designated hitter and zero at shortstop, Perez was hitting just.262, but boasted a.403 on-base percentage. Since joining the Miracle, Alex has been a staple in the middle infield and played in 33 games. With 28 hits in 104 at-bats, Perez is hitting.269 with 14 walks, six doubles and eight RBI. LaMonte Wade transitioning to FSL with ease A day after LaMonte Wade was added to the active roster for the Miracle on June 22, the left-hand hitting outfielder was placed on the disabled list with an injured hamstring. Wade had to wait a week to make his FSL debut, but the native of Owings Mill, Maryland has fit seamlessly into the Miracle lineup. Wade is 24-for-63 (.369) with at least one hit in 15-of-20 games. LaMonte has driven in 18 runs, scored another nine and earned his first FSL homer on Sunday, July 17. Wade homered again on Tuesday, his second in three games and plated seven RBI in the last series with Lakeland.
