Message from the NSW GBOTA The NSW Greyhound Breeders, Owners & Trainers Association is delighted to present the 2012 Golden Easter Egg Carnival. The 2012 Carnival has been revamped with a number of changes that will ensure the Carnival retains its reputation as one of the world s most exciting greyhound extravaganzas. The Carnival s Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg will distribute a staggering $475,000 in prizemoney over the series with the final boasting a $250,000 first prize and a total stakes of $356,000. It is Australian greyhound racing s premier Group 1 event and remains the ultimate measurement of excellence. The Consolation of the Golden Easter Egg The Ambrosoli, sponsored by De Bortoli Wines now boasts a first prize of $25,000 (up from $15,000 in 2011) and this will ensure its wonderful status continues to build. For the stayers, a programming shift will now see the NSW GBOTA s premier long distance event, the Hotham Body Repairs Association Cup, scheduled during the Golden Easter Egg Carnival. The Association Cup carries total series prizemoney of $105,000 with the Group 1 Final winner taking home $75,000 (up from $50,000 in 2011). And, of course, the Centrebet Magic Maiden adds the x-factor to the Carnival. This year, prizemoney for the heats has been increased from $800 to $3,200 to the winner, thus matching semi-final prizemoney and the final carries total prizemoney of $35,000 and Group 3 status. There is no doubt that the series will unearth a number of future champions. In addition to the racing, the NSW GBOTA is planning an exceptional range of on-course entertainment with a view to further embedding the iconic status final night now has with the Sydney race-going public. We are delighted to again be working with GRNSW and an array of outstanding event partners and sponsors who share our enthusiasm regarding the promotion of the entire Golden Easter Egg Carnival. We look forward to engaging positively with the participants who target racing at Wentworth Park during and in the lead up to the Carnival. Every effort has been made to provide additional trialling services and the NSW GBOTA s racing team are committed to assisting trainers with any issues arising, particularly those associated with the intricacies of racing a long way from home base. To contest the various features within the Golden Easter Egg Carnival is a central ambition of all participants, to actually win represents achievement at world class levels. The challenge is substantial, but the rewards are even greater. Good luck to those who seek the ultimate glory! Brenton Scott Executive Officer NSW GBOTA About the Major Sponsor The evolvement of the Golden Easter Egg into one of the world s most famous greyhound racing events can be traced to its major sponsor, Macro Meats and specifically the Managing Director, Ray Borda. A self made, driven business man, Ray Borda is a former Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year (Product Division) winner. At a time when few saw great scope for kangaroo meat, Ray indentified a significant opportunity for it to be processed and marketed for human consumption. Almost single-handedly, he broke down Government red tape as he took kangaroo meat from the obscure to mainstream. Today, Macro Meats is Australia s largest processor of kangaroo meat and Macro Meats product proudly adorns the shelves of all Woolworths and Coles outlets the land over. Beyond business, however, Ray has always enjoyed a love of racing. Throughout his life, he has dabbled in thoroughbred and greyhound racing. His thoroughbred racing interests include owning Zip Zip Away which won a Goodwood Handicap (Group 1). But the love of the long tail has always been the greatest. He has owned greyhounds since the late 1970 s with his current runners bearing the Aston prefix. Ray owned the 2002 Adelaide Cup winner, Brookside Bear, while Brookside Red ran second (2002) and Aston Elle ran fourth (2011) in Golden Easter Egg finals for him. I love the dogs and I love the people in the greyhound industry. I tend to purchase pups or breed and see the progeny through so I share in the ups and downs that are part of the equation for so many participants. But the industry is accessible and affordable to more people than either of the horse codes and that is a strength it needs to work on. Ray is a substantial sponsor on a national basis. His support for the Golden Easter Egg commenced in 2010 and the profile of Australia s richest greyhound race has increased with every year of his involvement. The Golden Easter Egg showcases greyhound racing in its very best form. We are delighted to attach the Macro Meats brand to such a high profile event and are excited with the steps taken to further enhance this year s Carnival. The Golden Easter Egg is worth a quarter of a million dollars to the winner and it can be positively life changing for the winning connections... it is nice to be part of that.
