Cedar Ridge Royalty Audition Packet

Royalty Audition Packet 2016-2017 Requirements Prior to Auditions 1. Attend Required Hopeful and Parent Meeting on October 24 th, 2016 at 7pm held in the Cedar Ridge Lecture Hall. 2. To qualify for membership and participation as a Royalty member, you must read the Royalty Audition Handbook and submit all required signed paperwork at the Audition clinic. 3. Must be a current freshman, sophomore or junior at Cedar Ridge High School. This means that all members of Royalty must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors as determined by their credits. 4. Members should be able to attend and endure long and vigorous classes, practices, performances, and other events. An athletic physical exam must be completed annually to obtain medical clearance for each year that the member is on the team. 5. Each hopeful must pass a rating done by their administrator based on the areas of responsibility, cooperation, and respect of authority in order to audition. During their audition semester, any candidate who receives multiple days of ISS, any OSS, RROC assignment, or who commits more than one infraction of the RRISD Extracurricular Code of Conduct will not be eligible to audition. 6. To qualify for membership, you must not have been suspended from school (OSS) for the current school year. 7. To qualify for membership, you must not have attended high school for seven or more semester OR be in high school for more than four years. 8. If a Mini member losses membership for any disciplinary reason in any school organization following the Royalty team audition date, the student is ineligible to re-audition the following school year. 9. Grade cut- You can only have been ineligible for one of the two six weeks prior to auditions. Ineligibility means that you failed any class during the grading period. Any questions- ask the Directors. 10. Applications are due no later than December 5th at 4:30pm online. Mock Audition Clinic $30- Optional 1. The clinic will be held November 14th, 15th, and 16th from 4:30pm-6:30pm in the dance studio and small gym. This clinic is an opportunity to practice a similar audition week experience. 2. The clinic will be similar to audition week. Dancers learn warm-up techniques, leap, turn, and kick progressions, and an audition-style routines. 3. On the final day participants will perform routines for the current line officers and receive verbal feedback only. In no way are the line officers liable if the participant does or does not make Royalty. 4. All candidates will wear all-black dance attire during the clinic. Hot shorts may only be worn if dance tights are worn underneath. Hair must be pulled back and secured. Dance footwear (pirouettes are preferred), sneakers or barefoot only. No socks. 5. NO gum or jewelry. 6. All clinic days are closed to spectators. Participants only. Audition process-mandatory 1. The audition clinic will be held December 5th, 6th and 7th from 4:30pm -6:30pm in the dance studio and small gym. ALL DAYS MANDATORY. 2. On December 9th after school, all candidates for the Royalty Dance Team will audition in front of a panel of experienced judges who are current or former dance team directors or educators. Judges will only know candidates by their numbers. No names will be used. 3. The hopefuls will be scored on a five point scale. Each of these judges score will have the same weight. The total of the judges scores will be the hopeful s final score. Scores can range from 0-20. A candidate must make a 16 (at least a 4 from every judge) or above to make the team. 4. The administrator, directors, judges and hopefuls will be the only individuals allowed in the audition area. The line officers may be assisting. 5. Auditions are closed to all spectators. 6. Hopefuls will perform splits, jazz progressions, kick and jazz routine and contemporary/lyrical routine. 7. All decisions made by the judges committee are final.

8. There is no set number of members on the Royalty Dance Team. 9. Once a student is selected at the December tryouts, they are on a probationary contract until line camp. 10. The contract will be handed out to Royalty Minis once selections have been made. 11. Hopefuls who do not make Royalty and would like to see their scores must email the Director and the coordinating Assistant Principal to schedule a meeting. The email and scheduled meeting must take place within ten school days of the second semester. Email should include student s name and audition number. 12. Expectations for attire, footwear, hair, gum, and jewelry are the same as Mock Auditions. 13. All candidates must remain at Cedar Ridge until they are dismissed by the directors. Judges will have the opportunity to hold a second round of call backs if necessary. 14. Candidates will need to bring a sack dinner for Friday afternoon/evening, as they will not be permitted to leave, and visitors will not be allowed in. Only water is allowed. 15. Auditions are closed to spectators. (No Parents, siblings, friends, etc.) 16. The dance studio and Cedar Ridge hallways are also closed to spectators. (No Parents, siblings, friends, etc.) 17. Audition results will be posted at: http://www.cedarridgeroyalty.com. Only audition numbers will be listed, not names. Results Mini Royalty Members 1. A student who has auditioned for and made the Royalty Dance Team for the following school year. 2. Mini members are to sign the current Royalty Constitution and Handbook Agreement stating that it has been read and also be willing to follow the guidelines it sets forth. 3. Being a Royalty Mini is a privilege, not a right. As a result, Cedar Ridge Royalty Minis will take pride in themselves and in the Royalty Organization, as they are held to a higher standard. They will conduct themselves in a respectable manner and will maintain the highest moral and ethical standards at ALL TIMES. 4. Will perform and volunteer at the annual Spring Show and other events at the request of the Director. 5. Will be required to assist in the CD Fulkes and Ridgeview Spring Shows. 6. All new members ( Minis ) will be placed in a class together (2 nd period). 7. Minis will begin learning the tools they will need to become successful team members. 8. Will learn routine for Spring Show, football routines, pep rally routines and contest routines. 9. They will not officially become members of the Royalty Dance Team until summer 2017, though they will be held to the expectations of the Royalty handbook the moment they are selected to be a Mini. Drill Prep Class If you choose to not audition for Royalty, are not eligible to audition for Royalty or did not make Royalty at auditions this year ; below are the following options. 1. Continue with Dance 1 with Mrs. Searles and Ms. Gregory during 2nd period, the same period as Drill Prep. This will allow you to receive a full year s worth of credit. 2. Continue with Jazz 1 with Ms. Button and Ms. Gregory during 3rd period, you will need a schedule change. 3. Please consider taking Drill Prep again in the Fall of 2017 and taking outside jazz/drill prep classes at outside studios.

Royalty Requirements & Commitments Summer June - One week of camp during the first few weeks of summer to learn football dances July - Off - take ACC classes in Summer 1 session or Online August - Three weeks prior to school starting - Take pictures - Polish football routines procedures, pep rally routines, & stand routines - Prepare completely for football season - Various events as assigned by administration Fall Semester - 7:30 8:30am, 9:05 10:30am: practice every morning - Royalty class is double blocked (1st and 5th periods) - Royalty works Raider Renaissance, Meet the Teacher Night, & various other CRHS events - Perform at all football games and pep rallies - Perform at selected basketball games - Make special appearances or performances at various events - Royalty team members must be academically eligible to perform and do appearances - Mock Audition Clinic - Team Auditions Spring Semester - 7:30 8:30am, 9:05 10:30am: practice every morning - Royalty class is double blocked (1st and 5th periods) - Perform at selected basketball games - Make special appearances or performances at various events - Contest Season- compete at two or three competitions - Competitions may include some travel expenses & weekend commitment - Contests vary & change from year to year. (Out of town travel may be involved.) - Royalty team members are required to audition for several routines - Royalty team members must be academically eligible to perform - Spring Show - Attendance is mandatory at all rehearsals & performances - Line Officer and Social Officer Auditions - Banquet

Cost for First Year Team Members Camp = approximately $100-250 Team Wear= approximately $700-$950 All candidates selected for the team begin payments in the spring in monthly installments. Fundraising opportunities are available during the spring semester to help offset the cost. RRISD provides the dancer s field uniform, but all other pieces are funded by the dancer. Mini s are required to sell or purchase a half page ad in the Spring Show program. This form will be sent home in January 3rd and will be due by January 13th. Parent Involvement Being on the Royalty Dance Team is a commitment for parents as well as the dancer. There are many games, fundraisers, performances, and events that require parent volunteers to be successful. Being involved in the Royalty Booster Club makes the team more successful and provides many enjoyable hours bonding with your dancer and other parents. It is important to communicate with your dancer daily for practice schedule, upcoming events, sister gifts, volunteer opportunities, etc. Mini parents volunteer at Spring Show along with current team parents to make it a huge success each year! Spring Show this year is February 17th and 18th. Physicals Each team member must have a physical on file prior to August practice. A clinic is usually held in the spring by our athletic trainers to provide an opportunity at school. Your director will send you the required RRISD physical paperwork. Membership Each team member is held to a very high standard. Royalty team members are expected to be disciplined, dedicated, and hard working. They are to be successful and respectful students and good citizens inside and outside of school. Each member must be fully committed to the team and put the needs of the group before their own. We are successful when we work together for the best interests of the team. Mini and Mini Parent Meeting The parents and Mini will have a welcome meeting on Monday, January 9th at 5:30pm in the Lecture Hall. You are invited to stay for the Booster Club meeting at 6:30pm also in the Lecture Hall. Please plan to attend if your child is chosen for Royalty. THESE MEETINGS ARE VERY IMPORTANT. Royalty Audition Expectations Overall Dance Technique/Style - You need to be familiar with all ballet positions of the feet and arms - You need to be familiar with transition steps (chassé, pas de bourrée, ball change, etc.) - You need to work on being a stylized dancer - Must be familiar with all styles of dance - Primarily: Jazz - Fundamentals: Ballet, Contemporary, Modern, Hip Hop, Kick, etc. - Must have a clear sense of control and awareness of body placement Turns - clean double (or more) pirouette - chainés in relevé and plié (fast or slow) - piqué turns *Must have all turns on R and L with correct technique! Leaps - Chainé jeté - Calypso - Jeté (brush leap) - Saut de chat (développé leap) - Press leap (sissone) - Russian (leap in full 2 nd ) *Must have all leaps on R and L with correct technique! Kicks We expect kicks and fans to be well above shoulder height, with straight knees and pointed ankles and toes. Work on your stamina, strength, technique, and endurance. Scoring Guidelines Each candidate will be scored by three or four judges (depending on the audition year). Each vote is 25-33% of the total score. The number selected does not depend on how many seniors are graduating. If there are four judges, a dancer must have a total score of 16 or higher. If there are three judges, a dancer must have a total score of 12 or higher. All candidates selected for the team will report to the dance studio on 8:30am on Monday, December 14 th to receive necessary information.

Cedar Ridge High School ROYALTY DANCE TEAM LINE AUDITION CONTRACT I have read and understand the Handbook of the Cedar Ridge Royalty Dance Team Organization and the Royalty Line Audition Packet. I promise to comply with the Rules & Regulations stated in the Handbook and Line Audition Packet. I realize that upon acceptance into the Royalty organization that I am on a probationary contract till the first day of line camp, failure to uphold this probationary contract and/or adhere to the Handbook as well as the rules and regulations that will result in disciplinary action. I understand that all decisions for Royalty Line Auditions are final and that any score inquiry must be made within 10 school days after the auditions results are posted. I hereby grant permission for my child to attend the Royalty Audition Clinics. I certify that they are physically fit for all activities and grant my permission in case of injury, accident, or illness to be treated by a licensed physician.
