We are working in coordination with the PGA of America to ensure that our PGA Members receive the help they need during this very trying time. With that being said, we want to make sure that those PGA Members whom have been impacted and may have suffered personal or business loss (for which they will have un-reimbursed out of pocket expenses) are aware of the PGA Disaster Relief Fund a program that may be able to provide assistance. Best wishes to all, IN THIS ISSUE PGA Disaster Relief Fund Information PGA Jr. League State Championship Assistants Association Pro-Pro Champions Carolinas PGA HQ Charlotte One Team Wins PGA Jr. League State Championship The PGA Jr League Charlotte One Team won their 5th playoff match on Friday, September 9 in Pinehurst. With a win over a talented team from Greenville, NC, they became the state champions and advanced to the regional semifinals in Savannah, Georgia on September 17 and 18, playing the tough Savannah Harbors course. BlueGolf Carolinas App SCNS Sports Foods Tournaments, Education & Meeting Opportunities In Case You Missed It Follow CPGA STAY CONNECTED WITH THE CPGA Charlotte One team was composed of 10 players from four area courses including Longview, Waterford, Charles Sifford GC, and Tega Cay. Brent Reneau, PGA Director of Instruction and Winthrop University Assistant Golf Coach, has directed all eleven winning matches leading to the state championship. The winners of the Savannah regionals advance to national championship at Greyhawk GC in Scottsdale, Arizona November 19-21. The recent state championship match was won by a score of 8 to 4 over 5000 yards at Pinewild CC in Pinehurst. Attending the match was Jack Nance, Executive Director of the Carolinas Golf Association, which sponsors hundreds of tournaments yearly for amateurs of all ages. Jack commented that he was impressed with the "sportsmanship and high skill levels of these youngsters." The winning Charlotte One team was led by Zach Reuland, area youth golf standout, with Griffin Tarver, Grayson Throwbridge, Bryce Wittmer, Keegan Brown, Robie Thompson, Calvin Currier, Nolan Will, Justin Jenkins, and Ben Mills. Zach hit a 250 yard drive onto the four par fifth hole on his two man team's 5 under par score for their 9-hole match. The PGA Jr League is a banner youth program for the PGA of America's initiative to "Grow
Page 2 of 6 the Game of Golf." Open to youth up to 13 years of age, each team is composed of 10 players who wear "custom PGA team jerseys and hats" and play in a two person scramble format. PGA President Derek Sprague described the PGA Jr League mission to "connect kids with the game in a fun and recreational environment. They lost a very close match against South Carolina 7-5 in the afternoon during Session #2. While they may not have won, it was a great experience for the players and captains alike moving into next season. Their final match was against the other 2-0 team, Georgia, who lost in a playoff at the National Championship in 2015. The experience paid off for Georgia as they won 8-4, however the South Carolina players never gave up and held their own. Great sportsmanship from all teams involved, as both Carolina teams left with their heads held high.
