Cork LGF Club notes June 11th 2011 Boherbue Notes County Championship ends for a gallant Boherbue side. St Vals booked a place in the County U14 A Final after defeating a very gallant Boherbue side in the County semi-final game played at Clondrohid. Boherbue won the toss and elected to play with the wind. Boherbue played some great football in the opening half, however they left their shooting boots at home as they kicked 14 wides in the opening half. Boherbue scored only one point from a free by Evie Casey. Boherbue hit the upright a few time and one great goal chance was cleared off the line by a very tight St Vals full back line. St Vals made many inroads into the Boherbue defence and also only scored one point in the first half from their full forward. This was a very fast moving game playing at an electric pace with both sides giving it all. At half time despite all the great work by both sides the score was 0-01 to 0-01. Out came both sides for the second half with St Vals scoring two great points from Ciara Nevin (Centre forward) and full forward. Boherbue went up the field and score a great point from Katie Fleming (wing forward). St Vals then hit a long ball over the top and their full forward hit theback of the net with a cracking shot. St Vals scored another point by corner forward to leave it 1-4 to 0-02 after 10 minutes. Boherbue made some positional changes which began to work and scored two great points from Evie Casey to leave the score at 1.04 to 0.04. It was game on and Boherbue attached with great pace but their agan kicked a number of wides and with 10 minutes to go it was still very close. St Vals then scored two goals one from a cross field ball and the second from a penalty. Boherbue missed a penalty and scored a fifth point by Beatrice Casey. St Vals ran out winners on a score Line of 4-05 to 0-05. Boherbue girls can be very proud of themselves as they gave a tremendous performance and the numerous wides in the first half were very costly in the end. The Boherbue Panel of players used were as follows: Niamh Murphy, Shauna Cremin, Emma Sheehan, Ashling Lenihan, Aoife Clifford, Evie Casey, Siobhan Fitzgerald, Beatrice Casey, Eva O' Leary, Cait O' Mahony, Sinead Horgan, Mairead O'Mahony, Katie Fleming, Katie Herlihy, Michelle Sheehan, Leanne O' Riordan, Laura Kelly, Maura O' Mahony, Emma Vaughan, Kayleigh Enright, Aoideen Murphy, Megan Kiely, Maedbh Feehan. Douglas U14s Qualify for County Final Douglas girls played St Michael s in the U14B County semi-final on Tuesday 31 st May in Mayfield. There was a strong breeze blowing and Douglas, playing into the wind in the first half, performed impressively as a unit. St Michael s played very well and put a lot of pressure on the Douglas defence in particular. There were strong performances across the field for Douglas, Caoimhe Conroy excelled in goal, the full back line of Aoife Casey, Hayley Nason & Emma Fitzgerald were rock solid, The half back line of Eadaoin Fitzgerald, Evelyne Cotter & Niamh Lynch defended very well and linked superbly with the forwards. At half-time Douglas were ahead 1-08 to 1-01. St Michael s started the second half brightly, however, with the strong wind at their backs Douglas soon began to dominate the game The midield of Kelly Diggin & Ciara Hartnett worked tirelessly and were excellent throughout. The half forwards Amy Ahern, Mary Connolly & Chloe Nason were superb as were the full forward line of Aoife Russell, Niamh Coughlan & Eimear McAndrew, who between them got some great scores. All of the subs, Cliona Forde, Eimer O Riordan, Courtney

O Donoghue, Choe O Shea & Maeve Cullinane performed really well when introduced. Douglas emerged as convincing winners on the night. Eire Og Ladies Football 13 a side league campaign With a large panel of players eligible to play at adult level again this year, it was decided to enter a team in the 13 a side league. This has proved to be very successful and enjoyable for the girls as there was a game to be played every week during March and April. There has been great turnouts for training, which resulted in only one loss throughout the competition. We are now through to the semi finals for the second year running and this year we intend to bring home the silverware. Good luck to all the girls involved in the upcoming exams and looking forward to seeing you all back for the playoffs in late June. U16 Best of luck to all the girls who are sitting exams in the next few weeks. Our u14 girls played Fermoy on Monday 6 th June in the County semi-final in Douglas. On a fine evening Éire Óg opened the score with some fine points. They played some lovely football with he County players talking control with a half time score of Éire Óg 3-6 Fermoy 2-0. Playing against the wind in the secind half Éire Óg upped the tempo with the girls giving it their all finshing. Éire ÓG 3-13 Fermoy 4-4. We now play St. vals in the county final. Our four County players Emer Scally, Aine Cronin, Aoife Nic A Bhaird and Laura Cleary returned home recently with All Ireland blitz medals. Cork now play Dublin in the All Ireland Final on the weekend 111th/12th June. Well done to all. U12 Mid Cork League. The U12 s have been playing their League matches during May. Eire Og 8-7 Douglas 2-7 Eire Og U12 girls played their first Mid Cork League match on Friday 13 th of May. The Eire Og girls opened the scoreline very early with a point from Emer O Keeffe quickly followed by 2 goals and another point. Douglas settled into the game and played some fine football, putting our girls under pressure at times. But from Goalie to forwards the Eire Og Girls never let up on the pressure they put on Douglas. Scores: Marie O Leary 5-5, Emer O Keeffe 1-1, Caitlin Brennan 1-1 Eadaoin O Connell 1-0. Team: Mary Coffey, Ciara O Keeffe, Niamh Twomey, Kate Nagle, Rachel Holmes, Caoimhe O Mahony, Grainne Calahane, Grace Collins, Marie O Leary, Caitlin Brennan, Avril McSweeney, emer O Keeffe, Eadaoin O Connell, Emma Cripps. Subs: Cara O Callaghan, Cally McCarthy, Robyn Sheehan, Laurna Murphy, Tara Leahy, Caitlin O Riordan, Brionna Girmaldi. Eire Og 2-7 St Vals 4-8 The girls put up a great game of football against St Vals and really held them in the first half, Vals pulled away in the second half, but a great effort by all the girls. Eire Og 4-5 to Nemo 3-11 The girls played Nemo in their 3 rd match in Eire Og on Tuesday 31 st of May. It was a fantastic game of football from all the girls. Caitlin Brennan opened the score line with a point and quickly followed with a goal. Nemo settled into the match and at half time it was a draw. The first ten minutes of the second half were evenly matched, but unfortunately Nemo pulled ahead

with some well scored points. Mary Coffey was excellent in goal and Rachel Holmes was strong at full back keeping nemo out time and time again. Caitlin Brenna 1-1, Emma Cripps 2-1, Marie O Leary 1-1, Emma Cleary 0-2 Our final match will be against Carriagaline date yet to be fixed. Glanmire Notes The Glanmire U12 ladies made it 2 in a row recently when emerging with the honours over Kinsale in a fantastic Cork county community games final, this was the third county medal for many of these players as some had already played in the same competition last year and then doubled up with a win in the ladies county club final. This was a great game from start to finish, Glanmire started the stronger with the breeze to their backs and were 6 points up at

half time but this was soon narrowed to 2 in the second half with some great play from Kinsale, this was when the ever smiling Ally McCarthy stepped up and kicked two brilliant points into the teeth of the breeze, this seemed to finish the Kinsale challenge and when Siofra Deane added a goal with only a couple of minutes left it was celebration time for Glanmire, well done also to Gene Buckley who reffed the game superbly. We now look forward to the Munster finals in Limerick in a few weeks time. Our U10 s continued their winning ways with a very strong performance over neighbours Rockban and will be travelling to Watergrasshill this week to carry the flag for the club. Our U14 s also take on Courceys in the County Semi Final this week and we hope to be looking forward to a final appearance before the end of June. Our Senior team take on Fermoy in Fermoy at 7.30 on June 16 th in the East Cork final and we urge all club members to come out and support. Glanworth Ladies Football Club On bank holiday Monday we headed to Killavullen to play Donoughmore on the semi final of the U14 County. Playing against a slight wind in the 1 st half we were very slow to start and Donoughmore were 1 st to score a point after 10 minutes. Then in the 20 and 21 st minute Glanworth sprung to life when they scored 2 goals. Coming up to half time Donoughmore hit us with a goal to leave the half time score 2 goals to 1.1. Turning to play with a slight breeze in the second half we still found it hard to cope with their girls and scores were hard to come by. The selectors decided to move Olivia from goals to mid field and the 1 st ball she got she ran through the middle and kicked over a fine point from 30 yards out. Maeve Leamy also found more space in mid field as she moved forward and picked up a pair of points. Then with 4 minutes left Olivia picked up a loose ball and fired in a beautiful pass which dropped in between the goalie and Rachel Murphy who got a delicate touch on the ball and it ended up in the net. With time almost up we conceded a penalty, Olivia stepped back into goals for the kick which she saved and touched it out for a 45. From this kick the ball was cleared and the ref blew the final whistle. Scorers: Orla Desmond 1.0, Katie Collins 1.0, Rachel Murphy 1.0, Maeve Leamy 0.2, Olivia Cahill 0.1. We now move on to the final. We have to up our game if we want to win but having said that all the girls played well and gave 100% on the day. On Sunday 29 th May the Glanworth club hosted a challenge game against Cork and Dublin in the pitch. We would like to wish Olivia Cahill and her team mates all the best in the All Ireland final against Dublin on Sunday. Lisgoold Notes Good Luck Caoilinn Cork girls take on Dublin in the U14 A All Ireland Final on Sunday 12th June in Birr @ 3.45pm. This game

promises to be Cork toughest challenge to date in what has been an impressive campaign. The Cork Team and the East Cork Contingent Hannah Looney (Aghada), Cassie Tynan (Aghada), Jessica Tonks (Fermoy), Courtney McCarthy (Glanmire), Caoilinn Hickey (Lisgoold), Leah McEvoy (Midleton), Niamh O Farrell (Midleton) and Rebecca Walsh (St. Colmans) could do with as much support as possible in their endeavours to capture All-Ireland success. Good luck to the Cork Team and our own Caoilinn Hickey from all in the Lisgoold Ladies Football Club. Waterford take on Mayo in the B Shield Final with throw in at 2.00pm. U12 East Cork League Lisgoold 2-4 Rockban 7 4 Lisgoold Team Britney Devine, Sarah Kelleher, Rachel McCann, Katie O Mahony, Aoibhe Savage, Fiona Murphy, Erin Nagle, Niamh Power, Sinead O Brien, Ciara Beirne, Orla Fleming, Amy O Keeffe, Nicole O Keeffe, Laura Whelan, Caitlin O Brien. Our U12 girls played their second match in the East Cork U12 League on Wednesday 4 th May. It was home venue on this occasion for the girls and after persistent rain throughout the day we were lucky it cleared up and stayed dry for the entire game. Once again, a great game of ladies football was displayed. Lisgoold got off to a flying start with a great point from midfielder, Niamh Power. This was quickly followed by another well taken point from her midfielder partner, Sinead O Brien. Lisgoold were on top in key positions throughout the field for the first fifteen minutes of the game and were rewarded with another point this time from corner forward Nicole O Keeffe. Our backline came under some pressure but Aoibhe Savage, Rachel McCann, Katie O Mahony and Sarah Kelleher dealt well with what Rockban threw at them. At the other end of the pitch our forwards, Orla Fleming, Caitlin O Brien, Laura Whelan, Ciara Beirne, Amy O Keeffe and Nicole O Keeffe continued to work very hard but were unlucky not to be on target. Meanwhile Rockban eventually broke down the defence and broke through for their first goal. It was quickly followed by two more goals despite our backs best efforts to stop them. In the second half Rockban were the more accurate side getting vital scores. Lisgoold s continued hard work paid off when midfielder Niamh Power burst through the defence to score a great goal. This was followed by another great run by Sinead O Brien who too buried it in the back of the net. Niamh Power added another point to finish Lisgoold s tally of 2-4 but Rockban were the stronger finishers. Once again our girls showed great heart and fighting spirit with each and every player giving their best throughout the game. Lisgoold 4 6 Cloyne 1 3 Lisgoold Team Britney Devine, Rachel McCann, Sarah Kelleher, Katie O Mahony, Grace O Driscoll, Fiona Murphy, Caitlin O Brien, Niamh Power, Sinead O Brien, Orla Fleming, Ciara Beirne, Laura Whelan, Nicole O Keeffe. Our U12 girls took to the field against Cloyne on Saturday, 7 th May in Cloyne in the U12 League. Playing against a very strong wind in the first half our girls got stuck in right from the throw in. Alert corner forward Laura Whelan was the first player to get a score with a lovely point. Following a great pass from Sinead O Brien, Nicole O Keeffe struck with a goal shortly afterwards. Our backline spearheaded by full-back Sarah Kelleher were in full control cutting out any runs made by the Cloyne forwards and she was ably assisted by Ciara Beirne, Rachel McCann, Katie O Mahony, Grace O Driscoll and Fiona Murphy. Caitlin O Brien and Niamh Power dominated at midfield and continued pressure paid off with great goals from Niamh and Laura Whelan. Centre-forward, Orla Fleming added two well taken points leaving Lisgoold ahead at half-time. Cloyne breached the defence to score 1-3 in the second half but

Lisgoold finished the stronger team with half forward, Sinead O Brien bursting through for a great goal and she followed it shortly afterwards with a well taken point. Orla Fleming added to her tally by scoring two additional points giving Lisgoold their first win of the League campaign. Well done and congratulations to all the girls on a great display of football and a well deserved win. Well done also to a very gallant Cloyne team who are only playing in their second season of ladies football and we wish them well in the remainder of the 2011 campaign. U12 East Cork League Lisgoold v Youghal Lisgoold Team Britney Devine, Sarah Kelleher, Rachel McCann, Katie O Mahony, Aoibhe Savage, Fiona Murphy, Grace O Driscoll, Sinead O Brien, Caitlin O Brien, Niamh Power, Orla Fleming, Amy O Keeffe, Laura Whelan, Ellen Flynn, Nicole O Keeffe, Sarah Murphy, Erin Nagle, Ciara Beirne. On Wednesday night last the U12 team played host to Youghal in the East Cork League. From the throw in Lisgoold got stuck into this game and within two minutes had the first score on the board a point from Niamh Power. This was quickly followed by a well taken point from Laura Whelan. We were winning at midfield where Sinead O Brien and Caitlin O Brien provided good ball to the forwards who turned this into great scores with points from Nicole O Keeffe, Orla Fleming and Ellen Flynn. Relentless pressure paid off just before half time with a goal from Ellen Flynn. Our half back line of Aoibhe Savage, Fiona Murphy and Grace O Driscoll were on top and cut off any attacks by the Youghal forwards. On the restart we brought on our substitutes, Sarah Murphy, Ciara Beirne and Erin Nagle who each contributed to the game in the second half. Youghal came into the game in the second half and breached the defence on three occasions scoring 1-2. Our forwards continued to pressurise Youghal and got the vital scores with points from Orla Fleming and Nicole O Keeffe and Niamh Power added a goal and point to her tally for the game. Well done to a very gallant Youghal side and congratulations to Lisgoold on a great win. Lisgoold v Fermoy For the second time this week our U12 girls took to the field of play this time in Kilworth and our opposition was Fermoy. Once again from the start our girls got stuck into this game however, on this occasion the scores just didn t come. Fermoy on the otherhand were accurate and got the vital scores despite the best efforts of our backline in particular Sarah Kelleher, Fiona Murphy and Aoibhe Savage. Our full forward Ellen Flynn breached the Fermoy defence in the second half to score a great goal and quickly followed it with a well taken point. Midfielder Sinead O Brien scored another point but the Fermoy team were just too strong on the night. Well done to the girls for showing great fighting spirit and not giving up on the night. Lisgoold Junior Ladies are playing the East Cork Championship final -v- Fermoy. Provisional Date for this game is 23rd June in Fermoy. Training ongoing for all ages. Best of Luck to all those sitting their Junior and Leaving Certificates this week. Nemo Rangers

U14C County Championship Semi-Final Sunday 29 th May @ Passage Nemo Rangers 6-03 Bishopstown 2-06 In sunny but windy conditions at Passage, Nemo started with the aid of the breeze and raced into an early lead with a point from Sinead O'Brien followed by a goal from Saoirse Noonan. Nemo's domination continued for the next 10 minutes and yielded another goal and a point before Bishopstown finally got on the score sheet with a goal and a point from the outstanding Eirne Ni Dheasmhúnaigh. Bishopstown now had the upper hand and kept Nemo pinned in their own half. Unfortunately Bishopstown's dominance produced only one more point during this period where the in fact they deserved a lot more. Nemo with the aid of the breeze broke away to score another goal through Megan Connolly before half- time to leave the score 3-02 to 1-02 in Nemo's favour at the short whistle. With the wind at their backs Bishopstown controlled the early second half exchanges but could only reduce the deficit by a point. Eirne Ni Dheasmhúnaigh and Una Stephens controlled the midfield for Bishopstown but excellent defending from Nemo's Meave Molloy and Ellen Harris kept Bishopstown at bay. A breakaway goal from Aislinn Holton left eight points between the sides before an Eirne Ni Dheasmhúnaigh goal reduced the deficit to five points. Bishopstown now seemed in control and only a fine save from Nemo goalkeeper Kate Scally prevented them from reducing the deficit to two points. In the final tense ten minutes Nemo goaled again through Megan Connolly and Aislinn Holton while Bishopstown added four further points, but Bishopstown were unable to find the all important goals. Best for Nemo were Megan Connolly and Orla Rae while Cork U14 player Eirne Ni Dheasmhúnaigh and Laura O'Neill were best for Bishopstown. Rosscarbery Notes On Saturday night next June 11th a draw is being held in the Abbey Bar at 10pm. The proceeds of this are to help towards the costs for the Feile weekend. Tickets 2 euro per line. Congratulations to Michelle O'Driscoll, Maultrahane N.S. who was selected for the Peile na Cailini team who played Waterford last Sunday in Pairc Ui Choimhe. Michelle is a member of the Ross U14 team. The U14 and Sr. teams were both beaten in their quarter finals. Upcoming fixtures, Sr. challange v Naobh Aban on Friday in Cloughduv, U12 b at home to kinsale on Saturday at 1pm and the U10's and U8's will have their first outing away to Clonakilty on Monday at 6pm. Best wishes to all our players who are doing their junior and leaving cert over the next few weeks. St Vals Notes The semi final of the under 14 premier county between St Vals and Boherbue was played on the June Bank Holiday Monday in Clondrohid. This was a repeat of last year s County final in which Boherbue won by 5 points, So a close game was expected from both teams.

Vals won the toss and decided to play against the breeze in the first half. With both defences well on top scores were hard to come by, and after missing a few scoring chances from frees Boherbue finally got of the mark in the 15th minute with a point from play. With the wind against them Vals were still creating scoring chances corner forward Katie o Sullivan being denied a couple of goals by the alert Boherbue goal keeper. Finally Nicola Deenehey opened Vals account with a point from play to level the match at half time. The second half Vals added 3 points without reply from their outstanding midfielder Aisling Kelleher. Wing forward Megan Mc Carthy then added a goal to stretch their lead further. To Boherbue credit they kicked 3 points without reply to reduce Vals lead to a single goal. Vals goal was now under pressure as Boherbue went in search of an equalising score but Ann Marie Ryan, Niamh Mc Carthy and Niamh o Leary held firm and defended heroically to keep them out. Vals were then awarded a penalty when centre forward Cira Nevin was fouled in the area, Nicola Deenehey took the spot kick and buried it into the top corner. Vals tails were now up and their forwards started to open up Boherbue s defence with Nicola Deenehey adding 2 more goals before the end to leave the final score St Vals 4.5 Boherbue 0.5. They now go on to meet Eire Og in the final in 2 weeks time. Congratulations to Aisling Kelleher Claire Murphy and Cira Nevin who were on the victorious Cork under 14 panel that defeated Armagh in the All Ireland semi final, we wish them the best of luck next week in the final against Dublin. After defeating Eire Óg and Carrigaline in the under 12 league Vals next game is away to Nemo Rangers next week. This should be a good contest as both teams have won all their matches so far. Also our under 10 and 8 teams are playing Eire Óg on Thursday evening in a friendly blitz in Carrigadrohid, this will be their first outing this year so please come and support the girls if you can. The draw for the senior and Junior championship were held recently Rosscarbery will be the opponents in the Senior championship and Kildorrery in the Junior. These matches will be played at the start of July.
