As we frm teams we use thse gals t guide the directin f placement fr ur participants. In additin t thse gals, divisins and teams are frmed based n a variety f infrmatin: Evaluatin prcess and caches recmmendatins f returning player Grade level and attending schl Knwledge f the game and curt awareness Skills: passing, serving, serve receive ability, cach ability and agility/height We d ur best t accmmdate cach requests but placements are nt guaranteed. Specific Rules fr Play by Divisins: **LSO will play by the OSHAA 2018-19 Handbk unless therwise utlined r defined in this dcument. Peppers and Setters The net will be set at 6 6 height and teams will play with a yuth, light-weight (7 8z) vlleyball (a.k.a. Vlley-Lite). Players are allwed t serve in frnt f the end line, 5 feet in. (this is a taped line) A player must remain behind the designated taped area when serving frm the 5' in line NO EXTENSIONS acrss the back f the curt will be given. A player may chse t serve the extensin f the end line as lng as they remain behind the end line. Ft faults will be called if a player steps n any f the designated serving lines during a serve. Players may chse t serve underhand r verhand and may switch serves in their same serving rtatin. Players will nly be allwed t serve 4 cnsecutive pints, then the serving team will rtate and the same team cntinues t serve. Players will nly have ne drp attempt t serve per serve rtatin. A re-serve shall be called when the server releases the ball fr service, then catches it r drps it t the flr. The first ref shall cancel the serve and direct a secnd and last attempt at serve. The server is allwed 5 sec t reserve. (NFHS Rule 8-1-6) Blcking a served ball is NOT permitted. Attacking a served ball while the ball is cmpletely abve the height f the net is nt permitted. (NFHS Rule 9-6-5/6) T elevate cntrversy, it is encuraged t put players in serve receive psitin, ready t pass r set the first ball in rder t btain 3 cntacts n the receiving side. A served ball is a service fault and becmes dead when the ball des nt legally crss the net, such as when the ball tuches the ceiling r any bstructin r tuches any part f a backbard r its supprt hanging in a vertical psitin ver the serving area when tssed fr serve. (NHFS Rule 8-2-6) A replay will be called when a player unintentinally serves the ball prir t the referees signal/whistle t serve. (NFHS Rule 9-8-1)

These teams will play 2 sets and if an additinal 1 is needed fr a tie breaker, then they must play frm 0-15 pints. If ne is nt needed but time allws, they may play the additinal game until time expires and referee calls the game. The set will end when ne f the fllwing ccurs: One team reaches the scre f 25/15 pints and has at least a tw-pint lead One team scres 30/17 pints, regardless f hw many pints they lead by (i.e. cap at 30/17 pts) Or if a 3 rd set is played but nt needed, until the referee calls the game based n time limitatins regardless f the scre. All players shuld play in every match (minimum 1 ut f 2-3 sets). It is recmmended that each player receive at least ne full set f playing time per match. This des NOT include players being disciplined fr grades r ther team infractins. This des NOT guarantee that all players will have equal playing time. If a player arrives t the game late (after the cach turns in the line up r at cach s digressin) they will sit ut until the set in prgress ends. The cach can add them t the line up fr the next sets. These rules apply fr either rtatin play r sub play (see definitin f play). Any playing time issues will be brught t the attentin f and will be addressed by each rganizatin crdinatr. Bys playing in the prgram: An all-bys team is welcme but nt all times can we meet thse requests frm seasn t seasn. Hwever; fr ur c-ed teams, the bys, where pssible, need t be placed every ther player and nt side by side. Rtating by-girl-by-girl is recmmended but with subbing sme exceptins may apply. Teams have the chice f either rtating up t 10 players nt the curt (i.e. the players n the bench are included in the nrmal rtatin f players), r playing with a six man rtatin n the curt and substituting player fr players frm the bench. Once chsen, a team may NOT switch their rtatin style in the middle f a set. They can, hwever, switch styles between sets in a single match. Teams can play with a minimum f 5 players (a side ut and a pint will be awarded t the ther team n the rtatin f the missing 6 th player). The team can have a maximum f a 10 player rtatin. - With an exceptin t an injury a player may nt be added t a rster after the 3 weeks. If a team is in need f a player especially due t a health issue r injury, then a guest player may be added t that rster t help ut temprarily until that time the riginal player returns and then must be taken ff the rster (mnitred n a week t week basis). - A guest player can play within their divisin r play in a higher divisin but a guest player frm a higher divisin is nt be eligible t play in a lwer divisin. - All abve accmmdatins must be apprved by divisin crdinatr and all prgram directrs. Spikers All rules fr the Peppers apply except fr these specified in this sectin. Players will have an unlimited amunt f serves per player until there is a side ut. Players will play in games with a regular USA vlleyball. (In practice early in the seasn, they will be allwed t use vlley lites but encuraged t use regular balls as the seasn mves n, as the gal is t prepare them fr play in 7 th grade). The net height will be placed at 7 (OSHAA height fr 7-8 th grade).

Players will serve frm behind the end line (with ne exceptin) and may serve the full extensin f the end line. Fr thse very few players needing a little assistance (due t strength), they may mve up t serve in frnt f the end line, 5 feet in. (5' in frnt f the end line- see peppers fr details) Prir t the beginning f a match, please infrm the referee f these players, giving them a jersey number. Teams play with a minimum f 5 players (but a side ut and a pint will be awarded t the ther team n the rtatin f the missing 6 th player). - The team can have a maximum f a 10 player rtatin. - Teams are encuraged t play a six man rtatin with balanced playing time as much as pssible. - Changes t the rster may be made up 3 weeks int the seasn. A player must be n a team s rster in rder t play. Exceptins can be granted by the crdinatr due t unfreseen circumstances please ntify the referee that is scheduled in advance. These teams will play 2 sets and if an additinal 1 is needed fr a tie breaker, then they must play t 15pts. If ne is nt needed but time allws, they may play the additinal game until time expires and referee calls the game. - Same applies as in Peppers: These will be rally scred sets in the first tw sets, teams will start with 4 pints each, and will play t 25 pints (start at 4 due t time). The final set will be played frm 0 t 15 pints. Passers All rules fr Peppers apply except fr thse specified in this sectin. It is ideal fr players t serve at their serve line, 12 feet in frm the end line (this is a taped line). And all remaining serves must remain behind this 12 ft in line. The net height will remain the same at 6 6 and players will use vlley-lite balls. Each player is allwed ne missed serve (des nt travel ver the net) per rtatin, serving 4 cnsecutive serves fr pints, then rtate: Once a serve is made ver the net, n missed serves will be allwed. A ttal f 5 serves are pssible (the first being the missed serve ), hwever nly 4 cnsecutive pints are allwed per player, per rtatin. Then they must rtate. If the first serve is ver the net but ges ut f bunds it is nt cnsidered a missed serve s it is nt t be replayed. A ball that hits the ceiling r ceiling partitin n a serve and lands in the serving teams curt, n the players first serve ONLY may be replayed. If it is any ther serve the regular rules will apply and will result in a service fault and becmes dead when the ball des nt legally crss the net. (See Peppers rule abve - NHFS Rule 8-2-6) If the ball hits the ceiling r partitin and clears the net, landing n the receiving teams side at any time then it is a fault and a side ut will be given.
