August 2011 Queen of Apostles Netball Club Newsletter Club Update Welcome to the August edition! This our final newsletter for 2011. Congratulations to everyone on a great netball season. Stay safe and well over the offseason so you are ready to do it all again next year! Important Dates Saturday 3 Sept 2011 Trophy Day Everton Park Hotel 3pm Monday 12 Sept 2011 Q of A Annual General Meeting 7pm As minor premiers Teams 5 and 6 (12yr and 11yr age groups) did not have to play semi finals as they were straight into the Grand Final. That left Teams 2 and 4 to fight it out on semi finals day for a spot in the Grand Final. Q of A Team 4 (13yr age group, Coach Kathy Kettleton) V Aspley - Semi Final Saturday 20 August 2011 Due to Tessa being out after an incident between her toe and a scooter which involved surgery, the team went into the game a little concerned one of their main defence players was out on crutches. Coach Kathy attempted to try and appear calm (didn t work) and was always easy to spot since she is the shortest member of the team. It was a brilliant game where Q of A lead most of the game but was given a good chase by Aspley for at least the first half of the game. A great win and through the team went to the Grand Final. Q of A Team 2 (Cadet Team, Coach Vicki Buchanen) V Raiders - Semi Final Saturday 20 August 2011 After receiving news that three Q of A teams were through to the Grand Final, the pressure was on Coach Vicki to bring her team to a win in the semi finals. Vicki took this news and pressure with her normal mild mannered grace, calmness and quiet manner! Luckily for the girls on the team they came up with the game required and made it into the Grand Final. GRAND FINAL Mark I Saturday 27 August 2011 Just as the players were ready to take to the courts the day was called off due to the wet weather. GRAND FINAL - Mark II Saturday 3 September 2011 The Grand Final will now be held the same day as trophy day. Three teams will have already completed their games by the time trophy day starts and we will have updates during the afternoon as to how the Cadet Team is going at Downey Park in their Grand Final game. Congratulations and good luck Teams 6, 5, 4 and 2!! Club Sponsors for 2012 2011 Netball Finals Series Could everyone think seriously about approaching anyone in the club, associated with the club, or outside of the club to become a sponsor in 2012. It is only $250 per business and this will get the business name printed on the Q of A coaches and supporters shirts, advertising in the newsletter, logo on monthly meeting agenda / minutes and advertising/promotion of their business on trophy day. This small sponsorship amount assists us in giving the children in the club improved equipment, coaching and umpiring clinics, and more fun, food and door prizes on trophy day. Sponsorship money is not invested by the club into a bank account, it goes directly back to the teams and players each year and is greatly appreciated by the Q of A netball club which is one of the smaller clubs in the Downey Park competition and doesn t have the same financial backing as larger clubs with more expensive fees. A letter which may be given to a potential sponsor is provided at the end of this newsletter. Regards, Rob Nixon Club President Get the latest on the web at: www.qofa.qld.edu.au/qofa%20netball.htm Page 1 of 11

Meet Our Teams Downey Park Finalists 2011 Team 4 Downey Park Finalists 2011 Q of A Netball Team 4 too excited for posed photos after their semi-final win at Downey Park. Team 5 Page 9 of 11 Q of A Netball Team 5 heading to the straight to the finals at Downey Park.

Meet Our Teams Team 2 We have had a fabulous season, three losses, the rest wins! By the time we got to the semi-finals I was down to six players - two on holidays and one with a dislocated finger. OMG! What was happening? Here we go..i pulled Sara G and Shannon S up from Cadet 5, thankyou girls, what a godsend! We played All Hallows and had a nice little win. Now we had to play the Raiders in the finals. We had played them twice already with losses in both games, one game being 51-48, a huge scoring game! The last one was a loss of 3 points. Of course it was EKKA week so no-one could train on Tuesday afternoon, but the girls were great and fronted up for a 7.15 train one morning in the cold. Obviously they wanted this badly, (ya gotta luv it!!) I knew it would be a tough game, but I also knew we would have good qualified umpires, and we all know how that can make of break a game. The game started well with the first quarter ending in 8 all, by the end of the second quarter we were up by 3, the final score was 40-31. We were very happy with that! We only had seven players and the girls became stronger and more focused as we played along. Bronte and Bonnie defended the circle turning over quite a few balls and rebounding very well. Our centre court players were a dream to watch! Georgia just kept going and going, getting the ball to Mary and Shannon who worked extremely hard and tirelessly. Our shooters Elita and Brenna were amazing! Elita is a defence player ( I might add) but we needed a shooter and she did the job very well. I have to say though Brenna was so hot on the day! Her shooting was a real pleasure to watch. Congratulations girls! You should be very proud of yourselves for an amazing and positive season. Thank you to our cheer squad, with some club executive committee members, other coaches and all the parental support on the day, it was so much fun and a great club feeling. Vicki Buchanen Downey Park Finalists 2011 Q of A Netball Team 2 proving that enthusiasm pays off as they head to the finals at Downey Park. Page 10 of 11

Meet Our Teams Team 8 Four Q of A Netball teams competed at the Bradbury Park Carnival on Sunday 7 August 2011. All teams played well. Special congratulations to the Q of A Team 8 (under 10s) who were undefeated in their Division 1 competition. There was much angst and nervousness in the last game which was crucial to the girls taking out the cup. With the score 3-0 against our team, their heads held high, they went into battle in the second half winning 7-3. undefeated. The girls faced tough competition and showed enormous resilience to come through Great effort to not only Q of A Team 8, but to all the teams that participated in the Bradbury Park Carnival. Special thanks to all coaches - and in particular to the Q of A Team 8 head coach Lesa Podbury and development coach Trisha Brennan for their efforts. A special mention to the Q of A Team 8 (ably assisted by Annette) who gave their coach Lesa Podbury, an unforgettable thank you, which was somewhat watered down! [But where are the photos of that? - Editor] Congratulations to all the children who played and many thanks to the parents for their continuing support. It was a good day and the sense of community we have in our club makes it a pleasure to be part of days such as these. Queen of Apostles Netball Club Inc C/- 10 Thuruna Street Stafford Qld 4053 Dear Potential Sponsor, Queen of Apostles Netball Club had its humble beginnings in 1988. With the help of parents, the ball was set in motion and the first netball communication was sent to parents on February 4, 1988. Sister Irene had a wonderful response and five school teams were formed. In 1992, we accommodated twelve school teams and two adult teams. Sister Irene felt that the club had grown to a point where she could no longer solely take on the job and so parents were called upon to help. Thus began the formal Queen of Apostles Netball Club with our first meeting held on February 11 1992. Parents offered to take on various tasks to help Sister and also to allow the Club to run more efficiently. The wheels were set in motion in late 1992, after our first Annual General Meeting, to incorporate our club. After much hard work by our Committee members, we finally received our Certificate of Incorporation in July of 1993. Each year our Club has continued to grow and prosper with the help, hard work and dedication of parents working on the Committee and in the capacity of Coaches, Managers and Umpires. The Queen of Apostles Netball Club currently has 100 + club members plus exposure to thousands of players, officials, parents and supporters on a weekly basis at Downey Park. With such great exposure you may be interested in sponsoring our club for season 2012. We are excited to be offering a new sponsorship initiative this season. Club Sponsor Package In this $250 package the sponsor will receive: Company logo and details in our club newsletter Company logo in the monthly club meeting agenda Company name on back of club polo shirt Please do not hesitate to contact myself on 0414 794 132 if there is any further information you may require.
