Golf Course Maintenance Mike Epps Golf Course Superintendent Congratulations to our winners of the Classic and everyone that played in the Ladies Fall Fling! September was one of the wettest months I have seen here at Mira Vista. October is the start of fall and cool weather, which are great for golf! There are a few drainage projects and some tree trimming that we will also be working on this month. The practice range tees, fairway, chipping area and par three tees on the course will be over seeded in October. We have already started the process of prepping these areas for over seeding by applying pre-emergent to the borders, verti-cutting and we ll lightly scalp these areas. The key to a good over seed is making sure the seed gets down to the soil. We will apply the seed and top-dress the tee areas with sand to help bed down the seed. It usually takes a couple of weeks for the seed to germinate and establish. Mother Nature plays a big part in how fast the over seed establishes, but by the end of October we should have the majority of the seed established and under normal mowing conditions. The staff will be working on a few drainage issues that the rains from September brought to our attention. And finally, we will start working on some tree trimming now that the grass should start to slow in its growth. With the start of fall and cooler weather please continue to follow our Mira Vista golf course traffic protocol. The white top traffic entry post and the red top traffic exit post. Please let your guest know about this protocol. Overfill your divots, fix your ball mark and another's and use a pull push rake method if you have to play out of a sand bunker. Remember, it s your golf course, please help us keep it nice for your enjoyment. I look forward to seeing you out on the golf course soon, and my goal is to have the golf course in the best condition possible every day for your enjoyment. If you have any questions or concerns please call or e-mail me (817-294-6615, mepps@miravistacountryclub.com) or come ride the course with me, you might be surprised what you will see and learn. Thank you for your time. Mike Epps Golf Course Superintendent
