Indy Mopar Club News www.indymoparclub.com April 2014 Jan Peel Editor 317.357.5760 Tom Kelly, President 317.439.1727 Mike Wallace, Vice President 317.710.5009 Mike Leyes, Treasurer 765.524.0326 Dave Opel, Secretary 317.850.1834 Dave Watt, Communications Director 317.696.6071 Meetings are the last Thursday of every month except November & December. Next regular meeting: Thursday, April 24, 2014 will be held at MCL Cafeteria, 3630 South East street Indianapolis (US 31- N of Southern Plaza between Sumner & National). Meet for dinner at 6pm, meeting at 7pm. A Map Quest link is available on the IMC website www.indymoparclub.com. Jeff s 1963 Belvedere I started watching the Nostalgic Super Stockers at the Good Guys Event in Indianapolis while I was racing my 63 Nova SS. I instantly fell in love with the early B-bodies in the class. After watching the NSS for a couple of years I purchased a 63 Dodge station wagon with a friend with the idea of building a NSS. While in the process of building it to race, a 63 Plymouth Belvedere came up for sale. It was offered up to me but I had to turn it down because I didn t have any place to keep it. Over the next year I was having a new home built and I received a phone call telling me the same Belvedere came back up for sale. I figured if I was offered the car twice in one year I should buy it. The person that bought it before me did not do anything to the car during the year he owned it. I ended up selling the wagon to help finance the Belvedere. A seven year journey begins. For the first year the Belvedere floated around from friend s house to friend s house while I built a shop behind my new house. During that time I was going to swap meets and collecting parts. There were very few parts for these cars that were reproduced. This is what the car looked like when I bought it. The Belvedere was really a pretty solid car even though it sat outside for ten years prior to it coming up for sale the first time. The car was a one family car. Friends tried to buy the car back in the 80 s but the lady would not sell it. The Belvedere was the only car she had ever owned. She didn t know how to drive anything except a push button transmission. Unfortunately the car was a six cylinder. IMC April 2014 Page 1

As you can see I stripped the car completely down to bare metal, every nut and bolt that could come off did. This same day I put the car into epoxy primer while it waited to go to the body shop to have some body work done and painted. The engine is a 426 ci with 10.5 compression. The heads were built by Dan Dvorak and the block machine work was done by Champion Racing Engines. After close to a year in the body shop and another 2-3 years of reassembly with the help of my friends this is what it looks like. Author ~~~~~~~Jeff Ancil IMC April 2014 Page 2

From IMC Club President: From Indy Mopar Club (IMC) President: Ice on roads last Monday and just like that, only 3 weeks now until our May 10 Fletcher Chrysler Car Show warm weather will be here soon! Let s start off with a big thank-you to all the club members currently working behind the scenes getting the show organized, ordering the shirts & awards and acquiring door prizes. There is still lots to do and the Club needs your help. What can you do? Well, take a look at the show flyer at the end of the newsletter. Spread the word and let all your car enthusiast friends know about our show. Ask them to please tell their friends and others they know. It would be wonderful to see a lot of different vehicles show up, both vintage and the newer muscle cars and trucks. Remind all that their attendance will also benefit JDRF. We also need more hands-on help at the show. We will be signing up volunteers at the next meeting on April 24. We need help manning the registration table, helping with the door prize program, selling door prize tickets, directing & parking vehicles. If you have a passion for photography, we always need help with pics at the show for the web site. If you can t make the meeting but can help at the show, just drop us a quick note via the website. Please take a look at event calendar in this newsletter and on the web site. We have club members looking into other activities so will be updating the calendar as details are finalized. Hope you can join us at the meeting Thursday the 24 th and can t wait to see your wheels at the show on May 10 th at Fletcher in Franklin.
