Learn-to-Swim Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills

Transcription:

Welcome When I was a child, the water felt safe to me, on my dad s back I was the captain of the seas. The early experience of learning how to swim isn t just about technique, it is part of developing an emotional bond & relationship through a shared experience. Since the birth of my daughter and through introducing her to swimming, I could see a new way of bridging all of these needs for both the parent and child. This is why I created Mani. My whole career as a designer has been about improving how things perform, creating objects, which work and communicate seamlessly. I believe that creating a product, which supports such a fundamental human need, is my social responsibility as a father. Mini Manta s goal is to help create better swimmers, worldwide. If Mani can help one parent to teach their child to swim, and one day that skill saves their life, then this will be the ultimate legacy. Thank you for buying Mani and I sincerely hope you and your child enjoy using this product. Michael Founder

Philosophy Swimming is all about the correct body position and efficiency of movement. The Manta Ray is a perfect example of this in the way it gracefully flies through the ocean. Mini Mantas represents the child growing from the early, fragile beginnings into this strong, graceful and efficient swimmer. Our brand and product approach is based on giving children the best opportunity to succeed in this fundamental life skill. Learning to swim is fundamentally centred around developing confidence in the water. As a child this is achieved through play and exploration in a safe, positive and fun way. At a young age, a child s natural buoyancy isn t sufficient to self support them in the correct body position for swimming. Our focus is to provide them with this support in a natural way, giving them the freedom to start growing as a swimmer. It is also important to give the parent the best opportunity to encourage, guide and reassure their child in these first crucial stages of development. MANI has been designed specifically to bridge all of these needs for both the parent and the child. It has been developed with the entire swimming journey in mind, in one, compact multi functional form. It can be used by toddlers through to their grandparents. It s a very simple idea but it is has been deeply considered and is unique in the swimming world in terms of its wide ranging functionality.

3 Phases of Development...

Phase 1: Familiarity The objectives of the first phase are to nurture confidence and a love of the water through exploration and play. MANI offers support in this stage by: Engaging the child to interact and be creative with its unique form, colour and varied texture. Reducing fear and help the child be at ease in the water. Providing natural buoyancy getting the child in the correct body position. Offering large areas to grip for both the parent and the child. Allowing the parent to guide, interact and encourage in a relaxed way. Allowing the child to only focus on learning to kick.

Phase 2: Independence Once the child is confident about being in the water it s important for them to develop independence from their parents and start to explore the pool environment. MANI offers support in this stage by: Creating a secure platform for swimming on the front and back. Support for the head out of the water reducing fear. Nurturing independent exploration of the pool. Building muscle strength. Building the confidence to experiment with new techniques.

Phase 3: Techniques & Play At this stage the child will be able to stay buoyant in the water unaided, however there is still a way to go to being able to swim freely. MANI offers support in this stage by: Offering numerous ways in which the product can be used. Supporting all the key foundations of front and back swimming strokes. Encouraging development and creativity through fun and games. Offering security through its ergonomic shape.
